TO HELL WITH KENNY BROOKS AND HIS BROTHER - let's move on...
VT Pops VT Pops
Same bad fanbase that turned out in epic fashion for Gameday
to SUPPORT his brother. I guess the Brooks clan wanted a hug and a kiss on the way out to go with their pile of SEC cash. Guess we’ll see what he thinks of the KY fanbase in a few years.

Certainly don’t agree with his comment about our “bad” fan base and CKB’s…
“Former program” didn’t attack him although some VT fans certainly did. Stupid commentary on his part.

If this is true, it sounds like Kenny's brother is making the mistake
of assuming the most vitriolic message board posters are representative of the fan base. They are not. I think most grown ups understand this. In general, Virginia Tech fans are very supportive of their players and coaches while understanding the realities of today's college sports landscape. It's natural that Tech fans were very disappointed with Kenny's departure. I don't think he handled it well. But I still appreciate what he did here and am ready to move on with no ill will.

He went to a school I dislike and hopes it loses more games than it wins.
Since he's the new coach of of a team I dislike, he'll have to absorb a lot of losses to make me happy.

Too many people in the world think Twitter is represents an entire fanbase
1) Good for Kenny. Get your bag, bro 💰 2) Kenny should take the players he recruited. Asinine to think otherwise, ESPECIALLY in the NIL era. 3) Marquette players should follow their coach if they want to. See #2. 4) The people who complain the loudest are not representative of the overall opinion.

I aused to work with Michael quite a few years ago when CKB was at JMU
nice enough guy but honestly why does he feel the need to make this comment? Micheal was the first person I ever encountered in the workplace with a neck tattoo as an interesting side note- but hey he was some graphics web guy so I guess he was just ahead of his time haha

Wait until this guy gets a load of SEC fans after a rivalry loss
And his profile pic is the UK logo? I have only one sibling, who I talk to almost every week, and I can't even tell you the name of the firm she's worked at for nearly a decade. If I ever did remember, I ain't changing my profile pic to that company's damn logo. Profile pics are for hideous AI-generated monstrosities, duh. Kenny's brother is just staining the Brooks legacy at Tech...
He makes some valid points but Tech didn't start this fire. We all know it's a business. Maybe some of the Tech fan base hasn't handled his departure as well as others? We also know that the players following him to UK are very close to him or believe he is best for their basketball futures. I've also heard some defending Kenny Brooks for his lack of acknowledgement toward Tech and its fan base. Some are saying Whit didn't give Kenny a warm and fuzzy thank you for all he did for Tech WBB, so that is the reason Kenny has said nothing since leaving Blacksburg. I don't know what was said when Whit and Kenny spoke, but I wouldn't expect Whit to hold a grudge just because a coach left for more money and resources. Here is Whit Babcock's repsonse to Kenny Brooks leaving Tech for Kentucky: "We hired Kenny in 2016 with the intent of revitalizing our women's basketball program," Virginia Tech director of athletics Whit Babcock said. "Needless to say, Kenny, his staff and student-athletes created a culture of excellence on and off the court. He was an incredible mentor to the young women in our women's basketball program and a terrific representative of our department and university. We wish Kenny and his family well in this next chapter of his career. I remain confident in the trajectory of our women's basketball program and when combined with our resources, specifically NIL, that the future of our women's basketball program is bright." At this point, I honestly don't care if Kenny acknowledges Tech and its fan base. He should've said something before he was formally introduced as UK's next WBB coach. So his brother talking about "class" needs to look into the mirror. It would be best for brother Brooks to remain quiet. I know he is only defending his brother which is very natural. If Kenny would've been an ******* during his tenure at Tech, then we fans wouldn't have expected a nice "goodbye" from him BUT Kenny was a kind and pleasant man who fans could relate to. He invited us into his and family's lives. He frequently talked about "Family" and about him being a coach was more than about basketball. Most of us bought it and it may still be true.

Well, in his presser at KY, Brooks seemed to be proud of the sellouts
I guess we will find out if it was him or the Tech fanbase soon enough. I hope the players he takes with him likes an empty auditorium,

We have a new coach, I'm just looking to the future.
I have no ill will towards Kenny Brooks. He had an opportunity he felt like he needed to take, can't blame him for that. But the Kenny Brooks era at Virginia Tech is over. Time to welcome our new coach and look to the future.

Exactly. All he had to do was issue a goodbye. I don't know how this got so
toxic. Kenny should absolutely be able to go where he wants, and if the girls he mentored and recruited want to follow him, I get it. But we had a good thing here together. I just don't get why he wouldn't say thank you or at least farewell to Hokie Nation. He may take full credit for building the program, but other programs that win don't fill the house like Hokie fans. It was a joint accomplishment. And PS, most fans came to see the girls, not the coach.

A couple of things stand out to me...
UK is not a bigger or better program than VT in WBB... at all UK is however in a conference that, at this time, allows them more financial latitude than VT currently has access to. That being said, the patience level that KB will be afforded will also be tighter and less forgiving. If KB had stayed on at VT along with the assets he would have had at his disposal, next years team would likely have been very good and again contended for ACC accolades, etc. That story won't be told - instead we are moving forward with a young and talented coach that has yet to be seriously tested on the big stage for WBB that VT has recently become a part of but has the pedigree to potentially step up and accept that challenge. Lets see who she can keep and who she can bring in and how she manages those young women to take on and embrace what VT fans have come to expect and are more than willing to support. Go HOKIES !

Actually...the moment Brooks was hired by UK ....
...and the talent he is going to bring with him instantly made them a better program than VT at this point in time . A proven Final Four calibre coach , an All American PG , a 6'5" Soph center and likely a couple from a Top10 recruiting class vs what looks to be a very good but untested at the ACC level coach and the remnants of our roster with whatever additions she may be able to bring doesn't even remotely seem there is any question which program is in a better position currently or going forward...not to mention the resources , money , etc. that you mentioned

Wait. Is he saying that VT administration
wants Coach Duffy to poach her former players? Cause that’s how I read it. Even if true, how would he know that information? What a doophus.
jonnyhawk jonnyhawk
I guess I get him wanting to say something on behalf of Kenny.......
But calling out an entire fan base, because of a few people calling out Kenny for various reasons? I would think his family would understand that..... #1. A few bad apples to not represent an entire fan base. For example, I am disappointed he would not stay, but thankful that he was at VT and helped build the program. Is he speaking for my position in his tweet? NOPE. #2. As a family member of a top college coach's family, I would think you would expect some fans to speak out against a coach that decides to leave our school to work for "the enemy". It just comes with the territory of coaching. It does not indicate that a college fanbase is "bad". Perhaps Kenny's brother is living in Kenny's shadow and is reaching out for attention of his own. Maybe Kenny can get him a position within the Kentucky administration, but based on his Tweets, I kind of doubt it. GO Hokies! ** Edited by jonnyhawk at 4/3/2024, 7:51:36 PM

From my perspective Kenny generally prepared his team well and
could make adjustments, although not quick enough for some. I think he knew what he had from a talent perspective and either had assistants work with players or he did directly with some obvious success. Doesn’t really matter now. My great disappointment is seeing the sudden dissipation of stability in the program. With the new hire comes new hope. While Carleigh and others may stay, convincing Kenny’s recruits to come to VT would be a phenomenal miracle. Most recruits come for development and coaching. Getting them to believe you can take them to the same or higher level the coach to which they committed is a tough task. I surely would love to see that top class keep their commitments to VT but I have to be a realist. Here is to hoping Duffy brings to VT the best BIG coach on the East Coast!

Because it is a small-minded comment that shows a lack of intelligence...
The University is a collective of tens of thousands of individuals with diverse interests and opinions. Of course there are always going to be a small percentage of fans who are vocally negative. There are always going to be a small percentage of fans who are vocally positive. Yes, there are many folks disappointed and acting emotionally, but I have also seen many comments expressing happiness and gratitude for Kenny and what he contributed to the University. So, it is incredibly small minded to post a public comment that focuses on the negativity and then cast it on the larger entity of "Virginia Tech". That isn't much different than racism, stereotypes, or prejudice... as people unfortunately paint very broad brushstrokes from the little lines they focus on. ** Edited by jesuisvtguy at 4/3/2024, 10:55:50 PM ** Edited by jesuisvtguy at 4/3/2024, 10:57:12 PM

UK WBB isn’t a bigger program and by all accounts he was offered more money
here. Only thing he could point to is UK just redid their arena. I guess if we remodeled cassell it would be ok to hire the Marquette coach.

It is true. But the way he left when he had a strong team and a great class
coming in is disappointing. It was selfish and destructive to VT, a school who showed him a lot of love. His impact at UK will not be the same. Duffy was already talking to other schools and was fairly open about it. I css as I understand the players transferring though I think the college should have some say in the matter.

Not every VT fan wants to poach MU players
No one is begrudging players that want to follow KB from doing so either. He’s being totally classless in trying to paint us otherwise.

While there are many Hokie fans upset by the imminent “poaching”
I think even more are bothered by the way Brooks left. Personally, I’m sad about the players leaving, but totally understand it’s part of today’s game. More than that, though, I’m just disappointed in the way Brooks behaved through the process. I was especially struck by the message Buzz Williams sent to Hokie Nation when he left (posted here in the past few days). When you are very unfavorably compared to Buzz, it’s not a good thing. I don’t think Michael Brooks, whoever he is, understands any of that.

the tweets are valid
but it’s just ironic he’s mad how Hokies handled it when his brother handled it just as badly and lied. Had one foot out the door before the NCAAs.
