I’ve read several books on Buford and there wasn’t much truth to the movies
either way.
Much of it was inspired by true events that had occurred over many years that they nearly framed into a movie script about a few people.
For example, Buford was beaten and robbed at the bar when he was 19. He didn’t go back and rob the place to get even for another couple years, while he was living in Chicago. He and a friend punched in at work, drove to MS, drove back and went to work the next day. When they went to trial they showed their clock times that they were at work in Chicago. Buford became a city cop a couple years later, and it was a few years after that he ran for McNairy county sheriff.

Interested by fact about Montgomery county. I moved 3 hours from bburg and
still live in the former Montgomery county.

Pitching was considered the weakness going into the season, and yet we had
maybe the best staff in the ACC.
Emma was a proven commodity, but I know everyone had their doubts about her being able to carry a team. She just wasn’t good enough to be the #1 option. Then she goes out and has an All ACC season. Great improvement over last year.
Bre wasn’t just an unknown, but somebody who wasn’t good enough to get any innings last year. I don’t think anybody thought she would be a serious contributor this year. Then she goes out and wins ACC freshman of the year and has an All ACC season. Total shocker.
Avery started out having a typical freshman season, ups and downs but showing solid promise for the future. She finished strong and was an outstanding 3rd option by the end of the season.
There were other surprise players but just as a whole the pitching staff was the biggest surprise of the team. The coaches deserve credit for developing them.

Yes, and each time we are borderline at hosting, so it’s not as if should
be overmatched. This year we were definite favorites to win the regional. Pete just underperforms compared to expectations each year.

Jordan fielding error loaded the bases. Then a groundball down 3rd and
Jordan was playing in and couldn't field it, scoring a run.
Then bringing in Bre.
Then Jordan makes a bad throw to first, Chat couldn't field it off the hop, and it scores two more runs.
I think I'm missing one in there somewhere, but it's two errors on Jordan this inning. It's been a rough one.

And got both freshman a few innings of work to make sure there’s no NCAAT
jitters.

Exactly. We have a low era, an extremely low opponents BA, and low HRs
given up. We could just throw strikes and blow all those stats.
The first inning will be trying to find the strike zone. Not because the pitchers need warmed up, because they don’t know where the strike zone is. They don’t want to feed the batter pitches down the middle. They want to feed them questionable pitches and keep them (and the umps) guessing. Gotta figure out the umps limit so you can push it when you’re ahead in the count.

So would you trade Foster for them? Lose a transfer, pick up a transfer.
Roster management is a zero sum game.
I think we came out ahead. Foster has proven to be better than Martin. Legette had a great season hitting, but she probably wouldn’t have had that here because she wouldn’t have played. Don’t think she could play a position other than 1B, so she’d have to beat out Michelle or Kylie, who had proven themselves in games. Foster doesn’t have Legette’s HR total this year but is phenomenal at getting on base, and a phenomenal outfielder.
Bre Warren didn’t work out, but you win some you lose some.

That's outstanding. Kylie had a similar drastic improvement from So to Jr
years.
Pete definitely knows how to coach hitting.

They just made it like basketball for 1-8 seeds. We're outside the top 16,
so we're a 5 seed.
Took me a second to realize what they were doing.

Best for VT is they look at road record. We didn’t have top 10 teams
showing up to bburg in February.

This. FSU had short notice to prepare for VT, and you’d bet they were a
quick study on how to beat Mazz and Bree.
No way they spent any time preparing for Avery. Great move catching them off guard, and great play by Avery for showing up with her A game.

Considering RPI is our worst metric, we should be in. If they truly
consider other metrics and ignore ESPN, then we should be safely in with a 17 RPI and a 46-10 record, with only 13 home games.

It's not close. 2022 we finished ranked #2, and received the overall #3
seed.
Played FSU when they were #2, won the series and run ruled them.
This season is similar to the past 3 years. Bubble host team, lotta wins, questionable losses. Let's see how we do in the postseason. Make it to the supers, and we'll say it's Pete's second best team.
Still not on par with the Tincher teams, all because of one player who took us to the CWS.

Pregame they said FSU was the standard bearer for ACC softball, but Duke
and Clemson have stepped up in recent years to give them a challenge.
I guess we don't exist. I guess we didn't run rule them twice back when they were ranked #2. I guess we haven't made 7 NCAAT in a row, more than Duke and Clemson, and Pete has never missed a tournament.

This is why I’m not quite as convinced as others Bre will start today.
It’s a new team, you can start who you want and not worry about over exposure. I think Pete trusts Mazz, and he made the comment about all the pressure of the game and how Mazz lives for these moments. It may be a sign that we will revert back to mid season, where Mazz starts and Bre relieves.
I lean towards Bre today, but it’s like 51/49 Bre to Mazz. I definitely won’t be a bit surprised if Mazz starts and Bre relieves. That’s how we dominated teams early on, and it’s a great combo.

A lot of those final strikes weren’t in the zone, though. She had a great
formula for success. She went right at them immediately, throwing strikes on the first pitches. For some reason UVA was just always watching the first pitch. They really wanted to figure out how to time their swing I guess. So many of them then got down in the count 0-2 or 1-2, and then Mazz was deadly. She’d throw an offspeed drop or high rise, and having no margin for error, the batter would chase it every time.
Typically Mazz throws a couple balls hoping they swing. Then she’s behind in the count and has to be perfect to get them or they walk. Which she does get them, the reason she’s second in the league in Ks but first in BB. I wonder if the UVA coaches strategy was to intentionally not swing at Mazz’s first pitches.

She gave up two runs in 6 innings and we run ruled them. She pitched great
last weekend. No idea what you're watching.
Both pitchers got smoked in the 2nd and 3rd games against GT. Mazz struggled with Liberty, but no issues since.
