Major bannination going on on the sub board. I love the smell of napalm
in the morning.

I caught myself self editing recently and mostly because I was thinking
about Will's new bannination efforts. You just never know how some folks will take a post when you are trying to be funny. Folks have lost their sense of humor.

Politics? Personal attacks? I have to admit to getting a chuckle out of
Will naming names, offenses, and punishments. Just lays it all out there so no one has any doubts. I'm trying to behave - even to the point of not even getting into any threads that could devolve. Even if you don't say anything wrong, just being in the thread is a demerit, ha. I wonder if this is a grand plan to get rid of enough posters that the message boards just die off, and Will can live in peace. #conspiracytheory

It is interesting because it's a real risk in my opinion. The TSL fanbase
are mostly old farts and we're dying off quicker than we're gaining new users. The Franklin hire is obviously a huge boost but we're steadily losing more people than we're gaining I'd have to think. Podcast helps because I do think it's the best produced podcast on Virginia Tech sports but does that podcast drive TSL views and subscriptions? ** Edited by BG Hokie at 7/6/2026, 10:23:36 AM

Which makes me wonder: Does TSL break even on podcasts?
If they're essentially free to the listener, and they don't drive traffic to TSL to subscribe, is ad/sponsorship revenue holding them up?
BG Hokie BG Hokie
I bet it flipped to being pretty lucrative in the last year. They're now at
12.6K subscribers. I think just 1,000 gets you to a monetization tier if you get enough hours watched or "views" which seems to be a pretty easy threshold to hit for TSL. Maybe why the daisy cutter has gained strength more recently!!! My opinion has probably changed relative to my initial post this morning. Podcast is probably bringing home the bacon!

Bans or death penalties?
Yea, and it's all fun and games until it happens to you, ha.

Bans, no death penalties that I know of, unlike recently.
Make no mistake about it - Will is kicking azz, taking down names, and Walking Tall.

I saw the original Walking Tall a few years ago
I was a bit shocked at how unexpectedly violent it was. In particular a scene with a woman getting shot in the eye stood out.

I read something last year that they determined Buford Pusser was involved in the death of his wife. Not sure how they knew but I recall he took several bullets too
Will Stewart Will Stewart
It's in Buford Pusser's Wikipedia profile.
They exhumed Pauline's body, and the wounds aren't consistent with Buford's story. He said a car pulled up alongside and people in the car shot her, but her bullet wounds were close range, and her nose was broken before she was shot.

"He was also a wrestler known as "Buford the Bull" in the Mid-South." Hmm
vatechcowpatty vatechcowpatty
I’ve read several books on Buford and there wasn’t much truth to the movies
either way. Much of it was inspired by true events that had occurred over many years that they nearly framed into a movie script about a few people. For example, Buford was beaten and robbed at the bar when he was 19. He didn’t go back and rob the place to get even for another couple years, while he was living in Chicago. He and a friend punched in at work, drove to MS, drove back and went to work the next day. When they went to trial they showed their clock times that they were at work in Chicago. Buford became a city cop a couple years later, and it was a few years after that he ran for McNairy county sheriff.

I had no idea he was a real person. I just thought it was a movie character

What do bonus points get you? A two-week ban instead of a month?
Nova Hokie 95 Nova Hokie 95
Holy cow, yup
Looks like he went back to a thread on July 4 and handed out some more bans. It's not just the nastiness he's going after -- it's ANY poliltical discussion. Mostly because, I'd wager, any politicial discussion devolves into the nastiness (at least with a few folks). Easier to just say no to it all than have to decide what went too far.

Why spend the holiday weekend arguing on an anonymous message board?
The extent of my MB posts this week were all during soccer matches. Not an argument to be had.
Nova Hokie 95 Nova Hokie 95
Those weren't even arguments
Just commentary that, in most cases, wasn't even argumentative. Here's Will's comments from the board: Zero tolerance. This is a Virginia Tech sports board, where people come to talk about Hokies athletics and issues affecting Virginia Tech, not your political opinions or anything that's even remotely politics-adjacent. I don't care if it's a stone-cold fact, if it involves politics or politicians, boom-gone. Guess what? If you have to put "not political" in your post, then it's political, and you might as well email me directly and ask me to ban you. I have been crystal clear that I'm on the rampage on this. Stay away from it.

Rules is rules. It's hard to resist sometimes, but the rule makes this a
lot more fun of a place to be.
