The separate UK countries established their own football associations in

the late 1800s. When FIFA formed in the early 1900s, they just accepted the different national associations. The whole UK thing is a bit weird, I'll agree. In the Olympics they compete as one, although they call themselves "Team GB (Great Britain)" instead of "Team UK". Which would seem to exclude Northern Ireland (and other UK territories) since "Great Britain" is just the big island that contains England, Scotland and Wales. Of course, the U.S. is no stranger to this...Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands all have their own Olympic teams. Bottom line...the ruling federations...FIFA, IOC, etc. can basically accept whoever they want as a "separate" country for purposes of the competitions.

How about you apologize to the TSL staff?

They kindly provide a link to the live stats. Which, if you would pay a little bit of attention, is on the Hokiesports.com website.

I have come to despise motorcycles. At least, the "crotch rocket" types.

Every time I see one, I expect them to do something stupid, and they usually oblige. Lane splitting, weaving in and out of traffic, flying past on the shoulder, etc. It seems to have gotten significantly worse in the last 5 years or so. Or maybe I'm just getting more cranky.

If you say so. Let's try this - you think Bud Foster only spoke sweetly?

I bet you Frank Beamer himself used plenty of colorful language. Not to mention all the assistant coaches at VT. TSL did an interview with one of the former assistants under Beamer - maybe Hite or Cavanaugh, I don't remember - and had to run a disclaimer at the top that they were posting the interview unedited, curse words and all. And that was just an interview, not on the field. Do you not respect them?

I have a group of 6 or 7 buddies on a text chain where we talk VT sports

None of them have mentioned it. Now, that's a small sample size. But I think the truth is somewhere in the middle - there's likely more than this message board bubble that is upset, but I very much doubt that 75% of "all" Hokie fans care that much.

Agree. But people don't like probabilities.

Last weekends snow/ice totals fell well within probability bounds that were being forecast. But many people don't like having to consider that. They want an exact number, so they pick one (usually the highest number of the predicted snowfall percentages), and then complain when it's not exactly that number.

Oll Korrect

That's where it comes from. You think "6-7" is bad...it's nothing new. At the turn of the century (uh...1800s to 1900s), it became a fad to spell things purposely incorrectly. So, "all correct" (which I guess was a common phrase) because "oll korrect" - and "ok" was derived from that. The only thing that stuck around from that fad, as far as I know.

They tried that, maybe 10-15 years ago. With a Mustang as the new KITT.

I never watched an episode, and I'm pretty sure it was off the air after one season. Maybe even pulled the plug earlier than that.
