Hokie Huddler podcast is a great watch. Almost Stone Age technology.
Doug's Brill anecdote is worth the watch.

Hokie Huddler podcast was fantastic... coming from a guy who was...
undergrad 76-80 (post Ferrum), and grad school 83-85. The descriptions of Dooley were spot on. Did a sport mgt internship in the Hokie Club office w/Jack Prater and John Moody... hosted a flight from Roanoke-Richmond-Shreveport for the Independence Bowl... and was in the office when the Outland Trophy for Bruce was announced. Great memories. And then, there's the technical foul I called on Bruce in the summer Intramural basketball championship game. Nothing bad. Bruce was huge and such a nice guy. Thanks for letting me share memories.

It doesn't pain me that Brill,
In his final years, had to repeatedly watch Tech absolutely pummel Duke while winning multiple ACC championships. And to witness some epic VT hoops wins over hallowed Duke. ** Edited by crazylane at 7/15/2026, 10:45:45 AM

Ditto. The guy was a major jerk and Duke homer who hated Virginia Tech
And wasn't afraid to broadcast his immense disdain for the Hokies. He was an epic tool and hopefully he got to see some of those epic VT beatdowns of the Blue Devils.

He passed in 2011
Most certain he saw each and every(year) butt whipping from 2004 on.

So dead approximately......
15 years and still living rent free in the minds of some judging by some of the posts on these boards.

Meh...it's in the context of a HH retrospective

Not a fanboy of his........
and had various back and forth with him over the years. I was just amused at people literally beating a dead horse. Brill would be amused as well. He was one of those guys who did not care whether you liked him or hated him, just that you subscribed and read.

Haven't thought about him in years
The subject came up on the podcast. He earned our dislike for him. Are you a fanboy of the guy?

Problem is, he keeps getting resurrected. Nails on the coffin not strong.

@Nick Brown used a couple of old Brill images. Well played.
The newspaper image perfectly caught his narcissistic arrogance.

I heard that the podcast ruffled some feathers in the Roanoke Times office.

Is the Roanoke Times still around...I'm pretty sure newspapers are extinct.

Given what Lee Enterprises......
has done to the RT, ruffling a few feathers there likely amounts to little more than a fart in a tornado.

That’s hilarious!
But obscenely true!

There are still people working there who (a) knew Brill and (b) care?
He retired from the RT 35 years ago. Or did it ruffle feathers for other reasons?

I remain amazed at the amount of people on this board that still care.

Bill Brill was an a$$. No true Hokie had,or has, a bit of respect for him.

Why would they?
And if he had an ounce of professionalism, he would have attempted to be a somewhat unbiased reporter. Especially taking a job 35 minutes away. His boss should have straightened him out or sent him packing. ** Edited by crazylane at 7/15/2026, 1:49:11 PM ** Edited by crazylane at 7/15/2026, 1:49:59 PM

Any chance it was an act, to increase sales?
People watch villains in "wrestling," to see them lose and get disgraced, after all. Aaaaand in this corner, from parts he does not want you to know, weighing in at too many pounds, Bill "The Thrill" Briiiilllll!!! (Boo, hiss, throw things) ** Edited by HokieNL at 7/15/2026, 2:53:22 PM
