Is it possible to become Barbecue'd out? Spent 8 days in NC, Tennessee

Kentucky and Virginia on vacation and ate alot of barbecue and visiting distilleries/brew pubs and cideries. Funny how I'm not tired of bourbon nor beer. I think I'm done eatin' 'cue for the summer. Ready for more crabs...(MD native)

Stopped at my first Buc ee's while vacationing in Ashville and then heading

to Bourbon country to pick up some new members of the fam... Not impressed except the Buc nuts were all good. Place was mobbed and most have world class sales per sq ft.

Heading to Ashville NC next week, doing the expected Biltmore, Grandfather

Mtn. and hitting a cidery, what other things are worth doing over a 3 day stay. Also any restaurant recommends? My first trip to Ashville.

Are there any honorable international sports organizations? Doesn't seem

like it. Too much money involved with sports today. Olympics, FIFA, Cycling, Skating...who am I missing.

I caught myself self editing recently and mostly because I was thinking

about Will's new bannination efforts. You just never know how some folks will take a post when you are trying to be funny. Folks have lost their sense of humor.

"Thighway Man"đŸŽļ

I was a thighwayman Along my girlfriends thighs I did ride With sword and pistol by my side Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade The bastards hung me in the spring of 25 But I am still alive

Cowbirds threathen many species and are overpopulating forest/cleared

lands. That being said.... cowbirds are fully protected in the United States under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). Because they are a native species, it is federally illegal to harm the birds, capture them, or disturb their nests and eggs without a special permit ** Edited by Hokebury at 6/30/2026, 12:16:46 PM

Just give them a nerf football and get out of their way. They'll figure it

out. Also bring several decks of cards, they can play war, slap jack, etc....

FYI, Charlottesville, especially student apartments have a ridiculously

high concentration of cockroaches. Seriously, I spent a number of weekends with female hoos while attending VT and everytime I did, the infestation was off the charts. Yuck... ** Edited by Hokebury at 6/22/2026, 12:05:08 PM

For those who’ve done the bourbon trail, do you have atop two distilleries

to visit? I can’t do the whole trail but thought I could visit several on my way thru Kentucky. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

zebra stripes?

I'm curious. Are there "don't hike off the path" rules where you hike. I

know in NE, along the Long Trail, above the tree line, the rangers warn hikers not to sally off the hiking paths since the vegetation is subarctic flora due to the elevation.....and could be damaged by hikers

Well then, pick one or two and put resources into them. It beggars the

question of what our athletic goals are. Is it National championships, Conference championships, in what sports, will it expand the VT brand and on and on.....I don't know but I can guess that its really not the Sears cup or whatever they call it today. Its the high profile sports and some success in Olympic sports, but National Championships in any sport doesn't appear to be on our agenda.

And politicos blast long waits for European medical procedure wait times

Health Care in America is a disaster. Too many people making too much money to care about the quality of care that is received.

Well, I had to have mohs surgery near my eye and thought I wanted to be

very selective about who did it. Did my research and got an appointment within 4 weeks at Johns Hopkins, dermotological micro surgeon department chair. A real super star. To be honest, I was shocked it happened so quickly. Two years prior, I had an issue my primary doctor scratched his head about and he called a local dermotologist for me to get me in, since time was of the essence. Nope, tried to give me an appointment 9 months later. So I suspect, its about demand, and how a practice is run and whether or not they work at a teaching hospital..... So you win some and lose some. I don't see it as a testament on the medical community in general.
