Per Teel, Coach Duffy just told the Board that a WBB roster is $8-$10 mil
A Championship roster that is. Wow.

Sad part is we have the Coach, but can we get the funding?

That would require a $150-200M endowment just for WBB NIL
MBB is probably double that. At some point, universities will have to make some hard decisions and be willing to walk away from the craziness, similar to what the Ivies did years ago. For $10M/yr, VT could offer full rides to the top 300 engineering students.

Refreshing comment
This is the situation with *every* non-revenue sport. How much are you willing to lose for a national championship. Do you have a benefactor who wants to be the "owner" of said team and make a $10mil/year commitment for half a decade? Can a benefactor set up a specific sport endowment? The TV money is from football and men's basketball. Like the pros, players salaries + team / coaching overhead is going to absorb most of that money. That's just the market. Every athletic department is now tasks with how many olympic / non-revenue sports can they field and who/how will they be funded?

Refreshing? College sports have/are becoming unattached to college...
I guess the refreshing part is that a number is now public plus VT is starting to organize as a sports business and hopefully limiting institutional exposure/risk via llc/non-profit. Even so, fans should not expect many sports to be above average. Can only afford to resource 1 (maybe 2 if 1 isn't football) sport at a top tier level (95% of schools are in the same position).

The quote "we've hit the ceiling of doing more with less"
Is a bit sobering for those of us who want WBB to compete for ACC Championships (get in the top 4). Couple concerns: We've got a pretty enthusiastic fan base, will it remain so if we're a perennial also ran? Will CMD grow weary of beating her head against the wall? She mentioned she does the negotiations, from what I've read that's not how UVa does it, it's done by an administration member. They are ahead of us in embracing this new world order (they actually have a good coach to go along with their money now, could be a problem.) But I am glad she said it out loud, first I've heard official recognition of funding issue. perhaps it will motivate increased NIL donations

IMHO every Hokie should know and should have known that fact bomb
coach MD dropped. Way to much expectation to either do more with less or a lack of knowledge what it takes. And by what it takes I mean the ability to plan spending and the ability to pull a couple of million to match every price increase during signing season. Way too much of the blame on Whit, Fu, Pry, Young and others.

POTD! Kinda tired of Hokie fans criticizing some of our top coaches & AD
when college sports is clearly ALL about $$$$$$$$$

If a school wanted to compete nationally in all major sports, NIL>$100M/yr

Well then, pick one or two and put resources into them. It beggars the
question of what our athletic goals are. Is it National championships, Conference championships, in what sports, will it expand the VT brand and on and on.....I don't know but I can guess that its really not the Sears cup or whatever they call it today. Its the high profile sports and some success in Olympic sports, but National Championships in any sport doesn't appear to be on our agenda.

Not really they are not competitive Nationally
They build a team that might compete on the bubble Notice she said a championship caliber team. Like a South Carolina , Louisville etc We have the NIL budget below average. Duffy overachieves as do the players
