Posting History (475)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Not saying it will happen within a year or two, but if that opportunity arises it won't shock me or the majority of long term fans on here. At some point if she continues to have success, schools will be coming after her. That is just obvious. Especially if she can't get the players she needs to be successful here due to resources. She doesn't just want to make the NCAA Tournament, she wants more than that and is capable of it. Yes going to the first round is success, but she expects more. In my opinion, she eventually will be one of the top coaches in the sport if provided with the right opportunity and resources. Thankfully Ivey is doing well at Notre Dame. Because you could bet if Ivey wasn't there, Duffy would be considered. You also have to consider what the relationship will be with the new AD when they come in. I can tell you for certain that Bonnie Henrickson did not leave just for the larger paycheck. There were multiple issues with Weaver. Not saying the paycheck wasn't a large factor, but it was more than that. She couldn't get the resources she needed, and those within the program know the frustration she faced. That was way before the NIL era. I am hoping if Duffy does decide to leave at some point, that we will have enough sustained success (more than the first round of the NCAA Tournament) that we can continue the momentum. Even though a lot of recruiting now revolves around NIL and the money, having sustained success is what gets the top players to want to come play for a school as well. By sustained, I don't mean just one or two years. Just stating my thoughts, you don't have to agree with me. This is just what I have seen consistently within the program since the 90s. Unless we want to go back to the Dunkenberger and Wolff eras, we have to step up our game. As we all know, competing at the top of the ACC and sustaining it is no joke. ** Edited by Hokster at 5/6/2026, 1:40:18 PM

She is an extremely talented coach and she will have multiple options

with most likely a higher pay. Many schools will be going after her and we may not be able to pay what they can. That is what I am saying. If she doesn’t have the support she will leave and I honestly won’t blame her. Kenny is another story.

It's just the facts.

When you have a hard time giving out scholarships, mainly due to NIL, there are more to go around. There are multiple ways to contribute to a team and that doesn't mean necessarily playing in games. Many players get limited minutes but contribute both off the court and in practice. A true team needs those types of players that don't get recognized. If you are coming from a lower level and getting paid for it then why not, even if you don't play much. It was nothing personal against the player, it's a smart decision for her. Just stating the obvious. ** Edited by Hokster at 5/4/2026, 9:23:25 AM

Honestly Duffy won't be around much longer at this rate unless the new AD

does something or we get a lot of donors by some miracle. I have mentioned it before, but NIL in my opinion has killed what college sports were designed to be. The fact that we signed a Division II player should be a hint to some degree. I know she probably will not play much, if at all, but it is like they had to sign someone to be safe at this point. I don't know if it is true or not, but if potential players get paid just to come to visit a school, that is literally a waste of money. Because the majority of these big name players know from the start that they aren't going to go to VT for women's basketball. They just want the money. Honestly it is really sad what college sports has become, and it makes you appreciate the likes of Liz Kitley and Carleigh Wenzel even more! ** Edited by Hokster at 5/3/2026, 9:30:04 PM

It might just be me, but I hate the NIL era!

I agree completely with what Muffet McGraw said here. She posted about the 5-year rule and about NIL.

If any team deserves that ending it is LSU!

I cannot stand them. I love how they made the comeback and then still lost, with the ball circling the rim like that. That was priceless! The majority of their players are the definition of a ball hog. I didn't see them as a true team. It is those teams that play together as a true team that win these types of games. Not individual players.

The only team I don't root for in the NCAA Tournament in the ACC is UVA.

I really have nothing against any of the players. But I can't stand the coach and I feel like being a Hokie, you are suppose to automatically root for whoever is playing them. With that being said, respect to their players! Their coach still needs an attitude adjustment! ** Edited by Hokster at 3/23/2026, 9:30:09 PM

I hope the team gets this message.

I know it doesn't matter to them but my dog who is my everything and only support system was diagnosed with mast cell cancer yesterday and I mentally could use something to get me out of this rut that I am currently in while deciding whether or not I should go through with surgery or just put her down. She is a senior dog. If they could win this game tomorrow it will personally help me and give me a reason to smile again, even though they have no clue who I am. ** Edited by Hokster at 3/19/2026, 2:31:41 PM ** Edited by Hokster at 3/19/2026, 7:45:36 PM

I have a feeling if she doesn't get it within the next few years she

will be coaching at another program. She is a great coach. She is going to be on the top of many program's lists, especially in a few years. Good programs at that. Maybe even just after a couple of years.

Brooks is going to keep getting bailed out in terms of his coaching

because of the star players he seems to run into and get. Now that he probably has more NIL money, he can use that to his advantage as well. ** Edited by Hokster at 3/10/2026, 9:11:22 AM

I think UVA may get in but would be one of the last four.

But it would make make me happy too if they miss out! I don't care if it takes away one team from the ACC or not. Not anything against the players, I just can't stand the coach.

What I am saying is we are not a big name like Notre Dame is for example.

Some teams can have what are considered to be mediocre seasons for them or worse and they still get an advantage, especially with recruiting, just due to their history and name. Notre Dame is known for developing great point guards. Even through their bad seasons they still got some of the top recruits. There are teams you can just say their name and they have the background and history to them that naturally draws attention and a crowd. We have not reached that level, even with the Final Four run.

Just out of curosity what seed do you guys think we deserve

in the NCAA Tournament? Do you think if we somehow pulled it off today that our seed would improve? UNC is playing tonight for a win to possibly host. So they have a lot to play for. We have the revenge factor, but also played yesterday so we won't be as fresh as UNC.

He was very good at secretly destroying confidence in players

Pretty much the same thing happened to Dara Mabrey. I know she wanted to go to Notre Dame and had that opportunity, but he was the main reason why she left. He destroyed her mental health.

That honestly comes down to the NIL that is available

She had big recruits that came to visit last year but they got better offers elsewhere. That's the problem. As much as I hate it, everything revolves around the money now.

Yes, Strack is a star player, but I would rather not have all the drama

that occurred, especially off the court with the one who should not be named. We seem to be a complete team now with no cliques or prioritization of others by the head coach. Everyone seems to be on the same page with the same goals. There were definitely favorites with the past coach. Suffren for sure would have transferred. She was on her way out until Duffy came in. There were many players that had issues with him and a lot of it came out once he left. Then the poor girl at Kentucky who was on the team her whole career was basically forced to leave the team so he could have another spot for a more talented player. Granted his kid is still there on the bench. Yes, I may still be pissed, but if we can keep Duffy for a while I think we will be fine. Really it comes down to the ability to coach and the NIL money. We know she can coach and is a great person on and off the court, but the NIL money we don't know much about. I won't even begin to bring up how he was basically recruiting Amoore to Kentucky before the season even ended, and how he left.

Honestly I think it is a good thing.

You get to see the results throughout the day, and any upset that should occur can motivate you even more. Also, it is really close to the normal scheduled time for most games that are played throughout the season.

Definitely! I do not like their coach at all!

She always has an attitude over everything and rarely gives respect to other teams when UVA takes a loss. I mean she really doesn't even take personal responsibility as a coach either. I like Banghart better than her, which says a lot.

Need to treat the game tonight as a way to up our NCAA Tournament seed.

Especially since we don't seem to have any advantage just due to our name like Notre Dame. We get disrespected a lot due to the Dunkenberger and Wolfe years. You would have thought after we made it to the Final Four that we would have gotten a little more respect, but it doesn't look like it. Georgia Tech has a bad record, but they are still dangerous and are basically playing a home game. Even if they don't have many fans come out, they didn't have to travel that far. Out of everything I have seen this year, Coach Duffy knows how to coach. Honestly if someone who should not be named was coaching this team, I don't think our record would be as good. Definitely would have lost some of those close games. I really believe we got an upgrade in terms of coaches in more ways than one! We are lucky to have her, and I hope she stays around. Wenzel, Baker, Nelson, and Suffren sticking around obviously has also made this team who they are. Without them, we might have been back in the dweller of the ACC. They are what you call true Hokies! I hope that core specifically sticks around for next season. I also hope that Sears stays. You just never know in today's world unfortunately. Loyalty to a program doesn't seem to be a thing anymore. So, when you get those type of players now, they are special. Especially when they could have other options. I don't know how much NIL money has been eaten up by the football team, but I hope we are in good shape to where we can continue to get better and better. We have the right coach for that. If someone told me you have the choice of going back to the one who should not be named or staying with Coach Duffy, to me it would be a no brainer. Coach Duffy all the way! It just scares me that if we don't have the funds to get good players with then she won't stick around long. Those of us who have been around since the Bonnie years have been through it, both the ups and downs. The downs being after Dunkenberger and Wolfe took over. It is nice to see a team having fun again and winning the right way. Also, don't get me started about Dunkenberger showing up for the 50th anniversary event. The audacity amazes me! I will leave it at that. Sorry for the long post, I haven't posted hardly anything all season. I needed to get all of that out.

Good, hopefully it fuels our team!

We still are the team with something to prove. Tonight would be a great night to do it! Notre Dame has their name to fall back on, which in a way makes it easier for them to get into the Big Dance. We unfortunately do not have that privilege.

Need to get them in foul trouble

They only play 6-7 players. Hidalgo can easily kill us though if we don't stop her.

Yeah that is a good decision on your part. More people need to stop buying

tickets to go to these games and stop donating to the football team. I am sorry, but if any change is going to happen at all the money has to stop coming in. If they are still making that money nothing is going to change. Not saying you shouldn't support your school and teams, but why would anyone want to waste money consistently to watch the current product we have on the field. Just my opinion.

We have a long way to go to get back into the top 4

regardless of whatever bigs we end up with. Many of the schools in the conference has out recruited us. I really think NIL is a problem. Just my opinion.

I agree. I really think something went on with the whole Dara Mabrey

situation as well. Something was off with that. They definitely didn't get along with each other towards the end. I know she ended up at Notre Dame but she was considering other schools when she left. It wasn't just to leave to go to Notre Dame.

No doubt she is searching for bigs. NIL could be an issue.

Plenty have visited campus, just nobody has committed yet. I have a feeling we need more NIL money to get some of these players. Look at UVA for example. They got that big donation and all of a sudden good players are committing there because the NIL money is available.

Coach Duffy is not going to be here long or any other coach worth the money

if there are not enough funds with NIL to develop and support an NCAA Tournament level team. Plus we don't want to just be an NCAA Tournament team, we want to be a successful NCAA Tournament team and sustain the success. Seriously makes you wonder how much is available to the women's program. Seems like we are very limited. Kind of odd that we only have gotten one commitment from the transfer portal and one that wouldn't take much NIL money. Especially when we desperately need post players. I mean there is basically a starting position up for grabs and we can't seem to find a post player at all. Do we not have the money? Makes you wonder.
