Just a True Answer if One Knows...
How much NIL $$$ is Whit giving this Program ??? PS.. I hope the hell he is not short changing it like he did the men's basketball program. Carry on..

WBB and MBB are two very different situations...for a variety of reasons.
That, IMO, is good news for WBB.

It's what I call a true lie. Technically, NIL is between a student-athlete and a 3rd party (for VT, that would be Triumph and The Hokie Way). We all know this whole NIL thing is a charade, or a true lie. But, as this true lie has become known as what it is, all schools are starting to be hoisted on their own petards.

Whit has the say, Sands has the say, and I guess the BOV . Sure as hell not the NCAA ..LOL

I repeat, I said technically. Of course Whit is responsible. The NILs are responsible. From Whit's viewpoint the current NIL grift is a wonderful thing. It gives him somewhat of a plausible deniability. Everyone knows this whole NIL system is a charade.

Which is Great. Enough said by me ... Is Whit telling TSL these things? I remember Jim Weaver has great standards on things like this. I bet Will can tell ya about Jim W.

a while, remember Jim Weaver. Probably more fondly now with our current financial situation. JW ran in the black. Unfortunately, most of our "News" does come from TSL at present, because Whit doesn't communicate, and when he does, he does it poorly. I think we get what news we get because of good "investigative" reporting by TSL, and from members of this board. But I'll let @Will Stewart speak to that.

I go back with VT sports in the 60's, way before these sites was around. I figure you do too which really doesn't matter. Just saying everything doesn't stay in Blacksburg or with your connections. I quit even wanting inside gossip about eight years ago..But if I need to know things like you. I can.. Carry on..Go Hoikes..

I must admit that there was some tranquility about VT before I retired to Blacksburg (2003). That was also true for my first few years of retirement. Being up close and seeing what's going on has its disadvantages.

if there are not enough funds with NIL to develop and support an NCAA Tournament level team. Plus we don't want to just be an NCAA Tournament team, we want to be a successful NCAA Tournament team and sustain the success. Seriously makes you wonder how much is available to the women's program. Seems like we are very limited. Kind of odd that we only have gotten one commitment from the transfer portal and one that wouldn't take much NIL money. Especially when we desperately need post players. I mean there is basically a starting position up for grabs and we can't seem to find a post player at all. Do we not have the money? Makes you wonder.

and that priority clearly has not been to go all in on providing athletics with the funding required to at least be competitive with the P2. Again JMHO but I think Sands and the BOV are calling the shots that many blame on the AD.

we can be competitive. So, a question to you, where do you think the funds would come from that the are supposedly withholding?

If the admin of VT wanted to, they are the ones who can raise the money through, not the Hokie Club, but the much bigger, more professional University wide sources of funding that are pushing VT ever closer to AAU status. Heck maybe even that level providing the scholarship $$$ as an example. And given todays revenue players come from all over, maybe paying the difference in the in state and out of state tuition, freeing those $$$ to revenue sports operations would be helpful. That and for sure, one university wide funding raising campaign so no departments are fighting each other for the same $$$. Then raise student activity fees. Seems we had a thread sometimes back that JMU, through their activity fees essentially makes all their students the old Golden Hokie contributors.
But be clear about one thing, I have said our admin has not, IMHO provided Whit the funding it would take to cover some to a lot of the complaints against him. I really do think Whit is having to juggle available money way more than most think.
There is a place that DR Sands could be all in on funding at a higher than competitive level and that is after all of college sports realignment or at least this phase of it, stops. I can see a strategy to just get through this re alignment, then see the exact level VT will be at. Realignment will never go all the way away going forward but the current one is the big one for the short and intermediate future. Once this is behind us, then I expect Dr. Sands will go (comparatively) more all in than now. The overwhelming odds are that no school can break out of the levels the big media has already assigned. So until that re alignment of schools and TV money gets all the schools the big media has use for in the places they want them is complete, it may not necessarily a bad strategy to know this is a time to "hold em."
Then post realignment, go all in on making VT the best of the level we are assigned.
Of course the budgets for a mid level conference will probably be more in line with what we spend now. Being #1 in revenue support for a FSU,Clemson, UNC and Miami less ACC will be a lot less than now.

Next level down is what the powers in charge would like for VT !! Sad but true, they want to stay out of Money Game for Div.1 sports. But Charging for it like we are in Big Time Football !! Only time and ESPN $$$ will make things clearer by their Money given to the "Elite" Conferences..

Sands doesn't have Torgerson feel for VT athletics. Whit has been dealt bad hand in some ways. I do think we need reset but i will not blame it all on him,

almost certainly has an impact, Whit particularly, and Sands/BOV tangentially, bear responsibility for the current state of things. There is more than a decade of opportunity to have been proactive versus reactive to the changes both in conference and in collegiate athletics and I think being dealt a bad hand is likely as much excuse as a realistic explanation and most would agree that a decade makes the situation their own.

no doubt, however, despite the continued protestations of some, the bus stops first in the athletic complex and there really is little doubt about that for people close to the matter.

Last year she got a very late start with the portal due to her coaching hire.
So I think she’s working hard at the portal. It’s still very early in the process.
She’ll get it done.

proving herself. I don't think she'll be looking anytime soon (however long that is). I think she'll be successful in her own right, at some point. And, if she is that successful, and an opportunity presents itself to move up, I hope she takes it. Why? Because that would mean she'll have been successful.
(In response to this post by MrFantastic!)

of successful runs deep in the NCAA. Right now, barring getting VT into the top 2-3 of the ACC and sweet 16 or 8 runs... I don't see her leaving. Of course, an alma mater could come calling or there could be an issue. However, to move UP would require a significant degree of sucess. That may take some more recruiting classes/portal hits over time.

I feel womens’ sports are so much different than men’s.
In many different ways.
And also, you’re telling me we went from having enough NIL $ to support a #24 WNBA drafted player, and a #6 wnba drafted player at the same time. Along with bringing in very strong portal players over several years, all less than 2 years ago? And now that money is non-existent?
Sorry, not buying it.
There are plenty of other reasonable factors involved, that explain things very well.
No worries.
Of course, if VVV stops dumping his boatloads of cash in Duffy’s lap, then maybe we would have a crisis.

I’ll not draw a conclusion until this portal cycle is completed, but we have a few big needs to fill if we want to climb to contender status in the ACC. I’ve stated before, if CMD is short on NIL funds, let it be known to the loyal fan base, fund raise to cure it

I feel like the way KB left, feeling like he needed more, fired up whit to an extent. I’m sure Duffy was promised something fairly well in order to come here. Her assistant pool would seem to bear that out. They’re all qualified to be head coach’s in their own respect.
Not that I want to defend whit, but that was the optics I gathered last year.
