His reputation was a a shooter early in his college career. Scoring
points, given the opportunity, would not be his shortfall.

That isn't what VT would say. We consider students..
who take classes here as a Hokie, and many of those people continue to support VT and particpate here.
That is the norm for many universities. As a reference point, PSU does the same thing. It is one of the reasons they have such a high number of "alumni" and supporters.

You need to talk with Ace. He says Davis has changed his body and
Is working hard and making progress . Apparently can help on the defensive end.

Coaches said in the preseason that this team would not be as good shooting
Shooting threes as prior teams. They were right. We are noticeably lower than normal.

I agree about Schutt. His play on both the offensive and..
defensive end of the court has improved. He is working hard on both ends.

She and her assistants says there are not very many quality players....
at 6' 5" or more, and most of the marginal players at that height want many more $ than the value for them. But, it doesn't mean they aren't trying; they clearly say there are trying to find one.
VT fans are suffering from post-Liz Kitley syndrome. Coach Brooks warned us not take it for granted because she was a rare player. Neither VT nor most other universities are likely to find one like her again.

Interesting. I see nothing in his post to indicate that.....
he thinks Avdalas will be like Curry. He is indicating that very good three point shooting is consistent with being able to be an NBA player.

Why would you think in wouild not be true. She clearly exp\lained the
situation last year and noted that she is now a redshirt sophomore.

Not quite right. Frankie Allen's first head coaching
position was at VT from 1987-1991. You were close at 38 years, and on point because after some success, the program faltered under Frankie..

I'm confident you are wrong about that. Sands believes
we can be competitive. So, a question to you, where do you think the funds would come from that the are supposedly withholding?

Yes, the basketball-centric schools have a great
opportunity to improve. People are always surprised at the success VCU enjoys. They miss that it is what they are all about. I don't even know if Creighton has a football team, but I sure know they play basketball.

GC brings a level of knowledge and common sense to
the board that it desparately needs. I've learned things from GC's posts that don't come from anyone else on this board. His detractors are so bad that I wouldn't even go to this board if GC wasn't posting periodically.

Thanks for the insight! The site I looked at had some film clips of
gathering, so I'm going to go back, look at them, and hope to understand it better.

GCHokie, I so much appreciate your information on this
board, and I'm always in the sense of thinking that must be right. However, I looked up the "gather" step on google, and
it produced the following:
No, the "gather step" (also known as the zero-step) is not allowed in college basketball (NCAA) or high school basketball (NFHS), unlike in the NBA and FIBA.
Does this mean that google is not the source of all knowledge afterall?

I'm glad that they are offering tickets to the students first. They are
the future of the VT athletic programs. Older folks, like me, are somewhat the present but mostly the past. Carrying forward with the VT athletics program will depend on future support from those students, just like they now depend on students from prior decades.
In reality the atheltics department does cater to the people with the money. I'm a Golden Hokie and am a ticket holder for 45+ years for football and MBB. I get better seats and better parking than most hokies. I suspect there are few hokies that begrudge our current students getting the opportunity for tickets. Regardless of how you feel, I know for certain that the people in the VT administration want the students to have tickets, and as a result, that is how it is.
Finally, since you gladly profess to not support the programs or go to games, who gets what tickets at the games is irrelevant to you.

Whit readiy knows that. It's a big part of why he
hired Coach Young. Since he knows the resource constraints that CMY is working under, he has a great appreciation for the work of the coach.

Think a little harder about this. The $ for those salaries comes from ,,
the Athletics operating budget within the university. NIL money comes from outside the university. One doesn't offset the other, at least not yet.

I"m not sure how you see VT as in the top five in wealthly alumni. All...
of the following are or would very likely have more wealthy alumni and/or more wealth among them: UVa, UNC, Duke, Standford,
Cal, GT, Notre Dame, SMU, and Miami (likely). We have a supportive alumni base, but we have lower numbers of older alumni. In 20 or so years, the numbers deficit will disappear and the volume of potential doners may offset some of the universities with alumni with higher weath.
It is not clear where VT would fall in the remaining 9 universities.

Your first statement is certainly possible. No sure why
he would want to buy more time; could you help us understand why that would be the case?
I did encounter a person whould would know earlier this year, and some future plans sounded pretty definite to me. I don't think anything is happening in a few months, but it isn't several years down the road either.

USC Upstate, 5 minutes against Delaware State, and 3 minutes against Penn State.

The responses regarding issues at the town level, especially....
Blacksburg are on target. Beyond those observations, the towns have the opposite view of things than VT people do. They see VT as the giant with all the money, and they want VT to invest in their communities, but they don't want to help fund projects. The partnership with Christiansburg for VT to use the olympic pool in exchange for annual rental (debt service) payments was enngineered by a Chrisitiansburg employee, who was a swimmer, and had connections to VT. Once this was known, some people in Christiansburg wanted to end the deal or increase to cost to VT to pay for the center. Ffortunately, the Aquatics Center turned out to be a big success for both parties.

I've been watching or listening for 60+ years, ...
and I agree with you. That was easily the worst set of teams VT has had in a very long time.

Yes, that is right. At a recent Bburg Sports Club meeting, CMY said
Lawal is definitely a 4, but could spend up to 15% of his time at the 5.

item of interest. With regard to the book camp work, she said all the players were shocked at the amount and level of work that it takes to be elite.

In his 3 years, Justyn was a 33% 3P shooter. If that is bad, bring
on some more like him for a wing or 4 player.

A minor qualification of your comment. Each of those
thousands of funds you mention must be either an endowment or a quasi-endowment to be included within the overall endowment number you mention.

Her style of play may work in her current conference, but it would
result in an 0-18 record in the ACC. Remember, we beat them by 40+ without Liz Kitley and with a coach going out the door.

Well, your data is a little off current reporting says VCU has 216,000...
alumni. VT has 202,000. Furthermore, many of those VCU alums are people that took some classes part time. VT's list is also all graduates. Regardless, part of your note tells a story. I know VT alumni who support VCU basketball. It is what is happening in Richmond.
