Others, are struggling to get to a full class enrollment each year, and you can see those as well. Some states, SC being one of them, has more seats available than SC available students. So, they compete hard to get out-of-state students. Many Va students now go to SC schools, and get those states' instate rates. That doesn't happen at UVA and VT. Now academic reputation, as viewed within the higher education world, and as is attempted to be measured by groups like the US News and World report rankings, are different. Admissions is just one part, and not a really big part. That is what separates many of those schools, not which one a student can get into. Not long ago, VT was in the 70's in the USNWR ranking. Now tied for 20th. that significant change has little to do with who gets enrolled in what university.
