Why is it too late? That amount would not have

changed Brooks' decision. VT had clearly already offered more money in compensation than the amount $60 per season ticket would generate. I'm good with the price going up, but it's for the future, not the past.

Your strategy for that would be to not watch any games

next season. Most Hokies know how valuable he is, and want to see him playing for VT next year. If he does decide to leave there will be plenty of P5 schools that will gladly take him.

To the extent you are talking about admittance to an

institution, the doors are wide open at many. Just watch what schools have a high "wait list" and fill their classes out quickly. Those are the trending schools, and VT is one of them. Others, are struggling to get to a full class enrollment each year, and you can see those as well. Some states, SC being one of them, has more seats available than SC available students. So, they compete hard to get out-of-state students. Many Va students now go to SC schools, and get those states' instate rates. That doesn't happen at UVA and VT. Now academic reputation, as viewed within the higher education world, and as is attempted to be measured by groups like the US News and World report rankings, are different. Admissions is just one part, and not a really big part. That is what separates many of those schools, not which one a student can get into. Not long ago, VT was in the 70's in the USNWR ranking. Now tied for 20th. that significant change has little to do with who gets enrolled in what university.

That isn't as easy as it might sound. Reductions in sports would likely

have to come from the men's side. Title IX requires balance between men and women, based on things like the student body ratio. VT will inevitably move to a somewhat higher ratio of women in the student body over time, and thus VT will have to increase the number players in the womens' programs, or reduce those on the men's side. What men's sports would you eliminate?
