Refreshing comment
This is the situation with *every* non-revenue sport.
How much are you willing to lose for a national championship. Do you have a benefactor who wants to be the "owner" of said team and make a $10mil/year commitment for half a decade? Can a benefactor set up a specific sport endowment?
The TV money is from football and men's basketball. Like the pros, players salaries + team / coaching overhead is going to absorb most of that money. That's just the market.
Every athletic department is now tasks with how many olympic / non-revenue sports can they field and who/how will they be funded?

It's the extra year, go get that bag
She's got the rare opportunity to start her pro career with that 5th year of college basketball. Get the money, enjoy it, make the Australian Olympic team.

The money difference...
It's insane to me that Kentucky, a state with almost half the population of Virginia and lower average incomes, would have such a monetary advantage. The funding from the SEC tv contracts is mind blowing.

Yes
17 have hit the portal and aren't playing (mostly backups / special teams) and four starters that are draft eligible and have been questionable with injuries.

They probably can't afford what they pay the SEC...
Signed a disgruntled Disney shareholder for the last decade.
I can't imagine broadcast rights continuing to go up like they did, ESPN blew a huge hole in their parent company in this money race.

Are they really this insufferable?
Florida State has a brand....but this is their first ACC championship in nine years.
Up until 15 months ago, they were barely a .500 team for half a decade. Without Travis next year, they could easily be a three loss or more team with their schedule.
Yes, they got hosed by the committee for lack of QB depth, but they're busy blaming their conference instead of ESPN. They might get abused badly by Georgia in the battle of the backups here in a few weeks.
