I don't think we pull in the casual fan by running up scores on lesser opponents. And definitely by not obviously doing so when the game is out of reach. Beat the heck out of those teams in the first half if you want a wow factor on the ticker. I will say this though, and it's a little different than the original question. If we get the opportunity to play subs, call real plays. Sportsmanship be damned, I always have felt subs get BS playing time if everything goes ultra conservative and vanilla. And defensive subs need to know the expectation is to shut them down regardless of who is on the field. That will improve our depth and pay dividends deep in the season. This team will lose multiple games this year. I'm fairly confident in that. Hopefully we look competent and have a few memorable sparks to keep the momentum rolling because I think the next couple of years can be special.

Winning a lot and being in the hunt for championships maximize viewership. I don't think score differential means much at all. Interesting and explosive playmakers will help, but no need to run up the score, just look good when the game matters.

I think the two SEC games knocked the wind out of their sails and they approached ODU as a welcome easy win and got smacked in the mouth again. 1-0 is cliche but it is also the most important thing in football.

So the first question is do you bleed the top 20 more or try to invigorate the bottom 80. I would recommend the latter. I think it has the most potential. Problem is it's hard. Giving needs to be instilled into young fans so it's a culture. As I type this I'm actually thinking the split may be even more lopsided than 80/20. If you can get small $ from a large number...it could go a long way.

Medical flameouts should just be discarded. It is irrelevant data for the point you are making. That said, as long as it's relatively consistent, it shouldn't drastically impact grade. I saw you mentioned you might not do this many more years. Another reason you might add to that is you are about to enter COVID recruiting years which I will assume will be a mess. As for your results, I agree and disagree. I think too rated VA talent has been ridiculous lately. But...I don't think targeting 3 star talent only is a good approach either. For one, it is hypocritical to lump those players into a "better" group when they are grouped that way by the same ratings you claim to be BS. But perhaps more importantly, success as contributors is only one way of looking at it. There also has to be a value on dynamics, game breaking potential in other words. A 3 star roster can be a very tough out, but championship rosters have dynamic players that rise up when games get tight. There will be more of those dynamic players in the 4 and 5 star ranks because they are largely ranked that way by define able measurables (the ones the flame out might not have the marbles or other essential traits). So, as long as we all agree attrition will occur at wild rates, the actual most successful way to build a roster is to fill it with potentially dynamic players, let the wash outs go and continue to load up on numbers. There will always be those 3 star guys in classes as well.

The only other dust up I remember was with Trevon Hill who said something about coach's son, stayed on campus being a disruption before flashing the U on stage at graduation. Hard for me to side with Hill in that one. But maybe Fuente was just weak at managing polarizing players (and maybe coaches too).

The real question is whether the VT experience was the wake up call he needed or could he have been mentored in a better way to allow maturation while remaining on the roster?

Bree did something that took some heat off her pitches. It made her change up easy to tee up. Mazz just needs to fine tune some pitches that get strikes in the strike zone. Discipline batters wait her out, undisciplined batters K. Layton will be very good. Out batters need to work on some swings when the pitcher is hitting her spots. Not every swing has to be a home run.

amount based on revenue generated? I have heard basketball roster payrolls thrown around that are higher than a whole football team. Seems out of control to me and the reasonable thinkers are being left behind by the reckless fanatics.

Some schools that don't have football have the ability to throw more at a roster than schools that do have football. But of the P5 schools, I think most are pulling similar numbers from the capped revenue sharing pot. If we are talking players, then we are talking NIL. NIL does not come from the school but can be steered by the school. But the money is out of our own pockets. Want better players, fund more NIL.

If they are late bloomers, they won't stay cheap after blooming. I don't know how to money ball this system.

I don't see anything happening in next few years. When it happens... I have no huge desire to be in the same conference with UVA. Let the chips fall and we can figure it out later.

Bubble teams aren't going to win the tournament. I think the lowest seeded team to ever win is like an 8. So whatever logic you want is going to be flawed because you are putting flawed teams into a tournament either way. It's why tournament expansion is the dumbest idea ever.

I think it also took a future NFL QB in Andrew Luck to recognize it. Bud struggled with great QBs basically because his whole defensive philosophy was that he was going to give up windows that most college quarterbacks won't find in time.

Wenzels aggressive play is essential. I would like to see more help off of it and more relief passes when the defenses clog it up.

I think Wenzel needs to pass more out of trouble. But the second quarter I thought the whole team stagnated and could have benefited from more ball movement. I didn't mean to imply Wenzel was the reason for the bad 2nd quarter specifically.

She needs to pass out of trouble more instead of taking wildly contested shots. A few more passes today would have gone a long way in the 2nd quarter when things were flat and ugly.

Does not being able to shoot the ball rise up on anybody's list? Or is that not sexy enough and we need to make sure a coach's head is out on a stake to set an example for our enemies? Seriously, this team does a lot well but it can't shoot. Good luck coaching around that.

And you can play in 4 games without burning a redshirt. If it actually happened, I think you would just want to be careful how you manage garbage time.

I do agree with it if we are talking about 2027, but not sure it's reasonable to expect any coach to go from 3 to 9 wins in a year. It's possible. People will point to Indiana and other examples, but it isn't the norm and shouldn't be considered an expectation like this as if it's a pass/fail class. All signs point to the staff focusing more on the long term build than the one-off one.

Penn State was in a bad spot when those recruits flipped. I'm not saying he can't keep up those results, but the reasons will be very different. It's the only thing that concerns me with the lack of proven portal players. I have patience to wait until 2027 season to see the payoff, but will recruits remain believers if we go 6-6 or worse? Hope we don't have to find out.

I was a big fan of the 4 team playoff at the time. I wish it would have never expanded beyond that.

Teams will want to keep rivalry games. The first 6 games establish a seeding for the initial 128 team bracket. Beyond that you would have a middle and lower bracket to begin filling with one and two loss teams respectively. Winner of top bracket plays winner of the champions in the lower brackets. There are challenges. Worst team might only play 9 games. There could be games added for eliminated teams. Who gets home games? Could get very skewed. One team in the championship will have zero losses. Is it win or go home at that point? Football isn't known for a series. It would be a complicated mess since it isn't a strict single elimination bracket.

Restructure all of college football into a 128 team league. Play a six game schedule to establish seeding into a 128 team triple elimination playoff. Crown the champion!

I thought the purpose was fine. Should have beaten that team by 10+ just by doing the easy stuff right.

Somehow the federal judges have determined that the athletic association which is the governing body of all the teams can't create its own rules on eligibility, which is preposterous to me. That's why I say don't count the sitting year against total eligibility.

The athlete half of the student athlete should have to sit a year. I'm even ok if it is at no loss to eligibility requirements. Athletics is unique and not comparable to the average student.

His feet are one problem but not squaring the shoulders at all is another. On the run he throws some kind of side arm thing that almost looks like it's over his shoulder. Mahommes can square his body even when running left. Very flexible. Drones is stiff and I personally think his pocket stance is too wide. It makes it hard for him to shuffle and easier to get shoe stringed.

I thought they whistled it because of the bobble going to the ground. On review, I'm not so sure he had possession before lifting the one foot that was in bounds either. This play also showed what has bugged me about Herbie last couple years. They were completely oblivious. Once upon a time Herbie was better

My only caveat is that we can never underestimate the fragility of an athletes mind. So, really, Ferguson doesn't have to make them faster, stronger, and better conditioned as long as they think they are faster, stronger, and better conditioned. It's like the placebo effect.
