Question about UVA, VT, and P2
If UVA and VT were to join P2 conferences - would you rather see both in one conference, or would you rather see them in different conferences?
I am starting to think it may be better to have them in separate conferences - as a state, it would basically hedge your bets - both would be in good places and just in case there is one issue on a conference, you at least have one school in the other.
It would also make it easy with scheduling since you could fill in an auto OOC opponent. The only problem is if UNC and UVA are in separate conferences and would UVA push to always play UNC no matter what (which could cost the VT game - though I could see that if this happens, there could be a state law that the two schools would have to play each other).

it either. History shows that those who can leave, will. Hence, OU, Texas, USC, UCLA, Oregon and UW are now in the P2.

None of our current or past rivalries matter when making the decision for our next step (if we even have a choice).
VT facilities for sports and fans are in desperate need of repair and refurbishing.
VT fans have a long history of being on the low end of donations. We need media money to help cover for our lack of extra funding.
VT is not near a major metro area. So we do not get as many of the casual fans that go to games and help provide some tickets and retail and concession sales. We need media money to help fund operations.
I love our rivalries with schools like UVA and WVU. But right now, survival is the top priority for VT. And we are barely treading water. So unfortunately I don’t care if a key rivalry gets broken up in the short term.

If VT returns to top level of ACC, they willl get the marquee games for networks, and ratings and with ACC new revenue sharing model, is the teams with the highest TV ratings and top performers get the the maximum amout of football revenue generated from the ACC. And heard from clemson and fsu community, it can get very close to average allotment from the SEC.
We got a national branded coach, and resources now, lets see how we transform.
Our goal is not just top of the ACC but playoffs regularly and top tier nationally,.

It would give the state more exposure if one were in the Big Ten and the other in the ACC.

barring some drastic changes both in leadership and operations. One in the B1G and one in the SEC COULD replicate the ACC/BE rivalry you refer to but, like I said, barring some significant changes the ACC is unlikely to be a relevant dance partner for either of the P2 much longer.

I don't see anything happening in next few years. When it happens...
I have no huge desire to be in the same conference with UVA. Let the chips fall and we can figure it out later.

but they don't dictate realignment decisions.
At this point, VT would be grateful for any P2 offer.
