The complexity of this unbelievable

First, if the Act appears to limit revenue and opportunities of the Big10 and SEC, it isnt going anywhere. and backing them are the Congressoinal delegations of the south, southwest, Midwest, Mideast. Second, The congress could inlcude another organization the NCAA (other than the NFL) for exemption to the antitrust. (already the NFL has a legal challenge for anti-trust,) the issue for them is streaming and pay per view. The NFL was given anti-trust exemption, if games were provided free over the nation's airways. Going Streaming is not in compiiant to the exemption. So, I think no one is touching that. Third, Political capital, With all the other stuff going on Washington, expendiing huge political capital on getting this through, (and we dont know, that would solve the problem. THe conferences are going to have to manage the business within the business. ITs the only way. and we all know the SEC and Big 10 are going to make rules for themselves for their growth. Hell with the others.

It was alot more, than that

Had a Board of Trustees that were introducing alot of political perspectives into Chapel Hill, and also they were auguing of their independence with the UNC System. (in which Chapel Hill historically treated as being disconnected). Also, UNC athletics (like it or not) had a culture of operation, and a legacy AD Bubba Cunningham, and a legacy football coach and a Tarheel, then basketball had a UNC guy, hubert, who bled Carolina Blue.). This board cleared this all out. This happened at Maryland before they left the ACC, the president (who Graduated from Maryland) retired, While their AD Kay Yow, was from North Carolina (I believe State), the Basketball coach gary Williams and Ralph graduated from maryland and was tight to the President. The new Board, hired an outsider from Maryland (the provost from Illinois) who knew nothing about the ACC and was deep into the Big 10, and saw program losing money, He cleaned house, and no Maryland folks remained. (THEY HAVENT BEEN BACK SINCE). Lets see how Chapel Hill proceeds... They do have money, they want to build a new Arena, they want to fund football, and they divided and not alligned. This is when the other peer schools take advantage of this.

He is co chair

all knows he wont fill the entire tenure.

With Bryan White, I dont see that way

Like his other hires, its national, and with the same agreessiveness like franklin for baseball.

interesting...... alot of stuff going on in Chaptel Hill

Talk about lack of allignment, whose in charge??? The only thing they have is national branding, a good academic reputation, and arquyle carolina blue socks

its one thing to watch it, but being there is different

Being there is an experience, EXTREMELY LOUD. It is not a cookie cutter stadium. Seahawks stadium is quite noisy. Just wait until the Buffalo BIlls new stadium opens up this year. IT is designed for noise.

GM hire good thing for the program

Baseball is like the other sports and getting GM to assist is critical.. With a new boss coming in, it would be great timing for a good solid season next year.

This is business. fans

If you are doable, work the system to maximize the income, especially in basketball. (also credits from one school to another is tranferable)

interesting.... wow.. all the best for him

A new day.... just saw that tidbit over at VT SCOOP. at the end of Whit's tenure, it was really getting bad on staff shortages. Brad was his right hand guy, and when he left well...

Obrian left due to internal crap with PSU

THe Paterno cult, backstabbing him. So he crabbed the Houston job

Hate to say it, but what expert can we make that judge

Our perspective at VT has been the past, see inexperienced OC, but look at the person who hired and payroll limitations. Fuente, got what he got with a cheap payroll, Pry, never been a head coach, hired what he thought. VT has NEVER had an established national coach come in to organize a football program. I trust his portfolio and experience to make 'informed' decisisions much deeper that n the previous 2 coaching staffs. At the end, Franklin will direct the Offense. Period. (and no matter what the PSU thinks, he pretty DAMN well, transitioning PSU from Paterno, and convoluted Bill O Brian to a national brand.). None of us could have done that

This is the haters from Penn State

That fan base just wants to bring back Paterno from the grave as well as the defensive coordinator who is in jail. Franklin mentions, programs, that are stuck in the past and slave to tradition without any new perspective. Not nice people at all. Sounds like a good bowl match up

OT boy Stanford players are great interviews

While they may not be good, the coach and players really give great interviews, ready for coprorate business.

I think The bots from Texas TEch is throwing this out

1. Guess what....due to their embracing of gambling, and willing to sue the NCAA and the conference. They are the black sheep. The instiution is very polarizing for any conference, market is gawd LUBBUCK. there was reason the A&M and Texas said see ya. 2. Also, Texas Tech knows they are the black sheep, and they are trying to say to the Big 12, we are better than you guys and we have choices.... Guess what they dont. period. 3. Sorry, just becuase you have a billionaire, you are the thang, look at Oka State.... well

Agree but, its reestablished, not just the past

IF you want to look, feel and feel like Big time Power 2, you must demonstrate it. WIth the new lighting system, and sound system, its going to be high energy. Look like Tenn, SC and SEC as well as Penn State. This is not rehashing the last 50 years. Also, this is entertainment business, and VT is all in. imagine redevelopment in New River valley like you see in Athens Knoxville, Oxford, .

Brass means the membership presidents

No way, Duke UNC, Cuse, BC, Stafford, Cal, GT, VT, UVA, SMU, Miami, Wake State, Pitt, ND would not want anything to do with that program.

Texas Tech Burnt alot of bridges in college athletics

Accepting and supporting a players eligibility guilty of illegal gambling, and then threating to sue the conference members who challenged them. They were even willing to go to court to distroy the NCAA for gambling. They also have been brash about the 'big daddy' buying the team. THe entire other membership of the Big 12, are not too happy with their antics and threating even the big 12 reputation for their gain. Also the other conferences are not happy with their antics. No one else wants that ilk....

So Sad

He was coach at Warwic, High School in Newport News and Denbeigh He was special to soo many. all the blessings

He is going to spend much more attention

Under hokie club lead he will hire top experienced fund raisers and pay them and maybe pay based on commission. Each staff will have portfolio and have establish metrics on weekly and monthly contact and committed donations. They will be ewpected reachout ; establish network opportunities and each network opportunity success will be measured for fund raising. It will be done professionally but results driven

I wish reporters would foia uva like they do fo vt

And challenge then if they don't comply. Seems to be 2 standards in the stqte

No matter what the record the university wasnt there

University and management was floundering - absolutely no idea to to manage athletics and absolutely no interest by bov president and. University operations

Bruce is a very large real eatate developer

From the huge casino fo major hotels in va beach; he has done very well. The reaturarnt is juat anothee opportunity

There is a missing link

Taxing the power 2 schools ie sec or big 10 if they break away . Got to reign in their greed

After seeing the dutch in dallas

Fans need to engage like Europeans soccer look like the dutch in dallas and the led lights and sandman

Well, Texas Tech should 'screen employees' before paying the price.

It's called institutional control.... Guess in Texas there is no instituional control. In the ACC, institutions that have a whiff of gambling. the player is suspended and the institutions have great legal teams that are prepared to defend their decisions. I guess its about values too. Just Texas Tech's threats to sue other institutions, really gives AD's fear in dealing with them.

I know its attorney knows to make legal threats and suing for BILLIONS but

and we seen this alot in the political world However A school for non conference scheduling has the choice to contract for any instituions they want. Therefore, SEC Big 10 and ACC members and Notre Dame, has choices and they can choose to play. Existing contracts well that;'s different and I checked Texas Tech future schedule not many Power 4 institutions, but these contracts have buyout clauses, For the Big 12 members, there are other optoins, ( i.e. go to another conference).

This is free market,

teams and their collective conference, can choose on their out of conference games to play who they want. For Big 10 schools there are alot of other takers who can be substituted with no drame. Its business...

my understanding from TSL staff involves system updates

TSL is going through entire system upgrade, and servers. this involves transitioning all the data history to the new system, subsciptions yada yada. (its amazing the sophistication we never see) However, I heard if Im not mistaken that one of the last transitions was the historical recruiting database.

The math will have to change

Between the NETWORKS and P2, they will do the math after the next round of rights. SEC already told ESPN, lets start discussing a new rights agreement considering SEC increased value. You can bet that the for the networks, they would be told the new rights will include expansion to x teams and the new expanded leadgue will also get per school at least 10-15 percent increase. Same for the Big 10. If they dont there are other takers. during nFL negotiations you never saw any networks balk and say we are not covering NFL. and if they pulled back Amazon NETFLIX have already said they will step up,. Key for programs, it is essential to increase your BRAND to be a national brand. between wins, stars, national coaches and unique environments.

Thanks for reminded many.....!!!!

His player personnel team, as created a methodology, and internal values for players that creates NIL that is a more complex tool. Its both used for transfers and high schools. IT considers experience, player performance, rankings and other factors. This is a GUIDE, however, he and team, feels its sometimes needed to overreach for a national brand that will help recruiting (i,e you get the No1 player in the nation, others want to follow), its worth the investment. Also, VT will be a relationship based school. THe matra is with relationships AND a competitive NIL program, we can do fine. CJF been doing this a long time, with excellence results. For others, we can rest assured that VT under James franklin, will not just write blank checks, it will be what is needed for team development. (and be competitive).

wonderful, to have these folks to step up

Its amazing when 1) university commits to an investment, 2) an instiution resolves athetlic management ineptitude through massive restructuring, 3) realignment of university perspective on athletics, and 4) having PROFESSIONAL university development experts maintaining discussions with these individuals to let let them know what investment will do and accountability and oversight and 5) hiring national level football coach and staff to bring total change in VT approach to football

Total confusion

Who is worse unc or fsu. Patch infusion basketvall or baseball . No organization . Guess the new ad from nascar will fix things

And the problen is??

It is a business a huge professional operation not rookie high school operation. And vt is a multi billion dollar enterprise employer in the region. Doubters dont understand .also hokie graduates are producing very successful business leaders that has made their name in corporate america and the world and that they can donate at this level

No difference for an university who operates a R&D Effort or Medical school

Many Sports fans have NOT A CLUE, on how rest of universisties manage their entrepuener enterprises. They have no interest or care about university operations, For Example VT operates another enterpise that operates the DOE nuclear accelrator in Newport News, its a 3 billion dollar contract, or the 500 million innovation center complex in northern Va. and the new 300 million dollar building control cyber sercurity center with HITT industries in Falls Church. We are just using the same smart business for athletics and guess what it is a business entirely.

I Love 'all the conspiracy folks

THe fact is there are very wealthy alumni who if appproached the right way, with competent top notch admisration and no hokie pokey, from good ole boys available. and guess what they dont live within 60 miles of vT.

These are not new

Most schools development foundations research and development partnerships and medical schools are organized this way- helps build private public partnerships and for dorms and dining . This just adds this to athletics . It is business

Why worry

Vt peers is top 10 . We get 3-4 stars all time nationally uva competes with richmond duke and vt has choices . Uva trying to creste a narrative so minor

Well, its BRAND, of the schools

To national media perspective.. they see only about 20 programs that sustain the national brand. So if a player goes to school x of course they HAVE to be good. and of course these players would chose to play there. and the corollary for other schools that are reaching into the area, is player y picks a school not a brand, it has to be something wrong, and from their perspective, those players obvioulsy arent that good and the blue bloods eased off. VT over the last 15-20 years, has not been a national brand, and basically been flatline, when they get a bump they seem to crash to an ODU (not allowed). DOes not help rep. For VT now, they hired a nationatl branded, credentialled coach and staff and committed natoinally to drastic investment,. Coach Franklin, is proven recruiter and he's doing it at VT like PSU and Vandy and we are seeing action. Now. No pontification. Just now win, and boom. Compare this to Bellichek and the UNC mess

Well its rhe big 10

Business first folks jump for a power 2 game

I remember Tim Sands inssisting on this series for Networking

He wanted to be in DMV more regularly for networking. Whit really didnt want a long series. Makes sense.... and be interesting if they keep Arizona and BYU as well. alot of stuff....

Give credit to VT MEDIA now, new messaging

Its not just a narrative, but an organized presentation by new professionals you are competent in media and mesaging.

Another thing, he;'s doing differently

1, t The state of VIrginia football is slipping. Virginia will have its top 5, but throughout the state not so good. High Schools in Virginia do not traditionally hire a football coach and assistants full time. You go to NC SC, Ga Fla, high school districts are funding full time for high school coaches and staffs and wonderful training facilities. (and yes some basic education of public schools are lacking),. Already some High school coaches in Va are getting jobs in GA and NC doubling their pay and full time. 2. You See VT all into Ga NC, Md and Pa., Get the talletn you need.

Control is an interesting situation for an executive

If you lead a Board of directors of 16 Univeristy CEO's and know what the problem is, as a leader you should konw the situation, before placing anything in an agenda. Sounds like Sanky pushes an agenda he wants to discuss, not what the president's want to discuss. hmmm..
