The TT donor Campbell just reposted this on X
Lawyer responses are tearing it to shreds.
But what’s most interesting to me is the fact that the TT side is trying to find coverage and leverage in all of this.
Personally I think they are just digging their hole deeper. They need to stop talking and figure something out behind the scenes that can salvage their reputation and the sport.
Unfortunately for the sport, the ruling has already opened up quite a large crack in the foundation and given some very powerful ammo to the BIG and SEC.

themselves vulnerable to law suits both civil and criminal (RICO) for allowing a known gambler in a quarterback position that controls the outcome of a game and could also be a ripe target for the Mob.

The mob involved in college sports. How silly is that notion?
Well, it's probably here already, or will be soon. Why wouldn't they step into this cesspool? It's perfect for them.

Since the decision on the NCAA appeal would be heard in February, anything TT does should be heard in Feb/Mar - and by that time, the NCAA "could" win, and then whoever TT would go after would be within their right.
I know that is not the case since a magical injunction would appear out of no where. However, what about the away games Texas Tech plays outside of Texas - those teams/states have their own laws and can prohibit TT from playing I would think.
To be honest, it sounds like as long as you have a judge that is in your favor, you can pretty much say anything and get your way.

and we seen this alot in the political world However
A school for non conference scheduling has the choice to contract for any instituions they want. Therefore, SEC Big 10 and ACC members and Notre Dame, has choices and they can choose to play. Existing contracts well that;'s different and I checked Texas Tech future schedule not many Power 4 institutions, but these contracts have buyout clauses,
For the Big 12 members, there are other optoins, ( i.e. go to another conference).

who wants to sue everyone that might hold TTU or its QB accountable in the least for the earthly sin of gambling .

not the problem, the judges ruling is. You can stand on a pedestal all you want, but it wasn't TT that sued - it was the kid - and he won. This isn't over yet - it's only been a few days since the injunction.
Maybe the Big 10, ACC, and the SEC can form a scheduling alliance. We kind of know how that works out, don't we?
VT should schedule TT, and settle it on the field.

Because we think TT is handling it poorly, it’s up to us to beat them on the field to prove some point?
I have opinions on lot of other stuff in the world. I guess I should get busy single handedly solving all of those things too.

and others of their hypocrisy than defending TT. Everyone jumped to the "morality" of the situation, and defending the sanctity of the game.
These are the very same folks that pay the NIL, kill conferences, stymie rivalries, and throw the student athletes of the non revs under the bus to "be in the club".
Wasn't trying to take a shot at VT per se, but i can see why you could take that from my post.
BTW, I have been an advocate of VT and TT scheduling games from the get go. I think it's a no brainer from where I'm sitting, current situation notwithstanding.

Personally, I want nothing to do with TT. I agree with you, lots of moral lines have been blurred and there's plenty of hypocrisy. But TT seems to have gone head first into the deep end of the win at any cost cesspool and I've lost any degree of respect I had for them. They've pulled off the college athletics version of jumping the shark for me.
Just looking at the B12, there are many other programs I'd rather play. WVU is our obvious rival and always a compelling matchup. But would love to see games on the slate vs. Ok St, Iowa St, K St, ....

a court decision for Sorsby on Monday of last week, and the BIG announced they would not schedule them in any sport moving forward. (the BIG has since retracted that on the threat of being sued).
It seems everything is being decided in the courts, and that is where the disconnect is IMO. TT may very well do the right thing and not play the kid, but I'm not holding my breath.

mouth shut then. CC is the de-facto voice of TT athletics now. His comments make him look like a shameless opportunist.

Texas Tech is doing something that is very plainly wrong, not in good faith, and not in the best interest of the sport, and they are doing so by hiding behind this state court judge's ruling. They may not have been a party to Sorsby's lawsuit, but you're naive if you don't think they encouraged it, and even more naive if you don't think the Texas Tech football program wasn't first and foremost in the judge's mind in considering the request for the temporary injunction, whether he was a TT alum or not. I know a lot of people from Texas, and the Texas mindset, whether you're from Fort Worth or Nacogdoches, is that nobody from some other pansy state is going to tell a Texan what to do, and I'm sure that exact thought was front and center in the judge's consideration of the merits.
So, I hate to tell you, but Texas Tech is just as complicit in this BS as Sorsby is himself.
Let me provide you some additional context here, and you can take it for what it's worth:
I have previous experience working with multiple state circuit court judges (not in Texas, in multiple eastern seaboard states.) I will tell you this - some genuinely care about correctly applying legal principles and not getting overturned by a reviewing court, and some feel their judicial appointment is a license to do whatever they want based upon what they think the outcome should be, and could not care less about whether their decision is appealed or ultimately upheld - to them, that's someone else's problem. I have been a practicing attorney now for over 20 years, and this judge's decision was laughably poor and demonstrably wrong, even to a 1L law student with very little concept of remedies - there was ZERO irreparable harm to be found in this case. Money damages could have made Sorsby whole had he ultimately been successful on his claims. This was clearly a judge that had a preferred outcome, made his ruling, and just tossed up a word salad to explain himself. He's a retired judge as well, so I'm assuming he couldn't care less if some appellate panel overturns his decision, especially since the claims will be moot by the time it comes up for appeal.

It's called institutional control.... Guess in Texas there is no instituional control. In the ACC, institutions that have a whiff of gambling. the player is suspended and the institutions have great legal teams that are prepared to defend their decisions. I guess its about values too.
Just Texas Tech's threats to sue other institutions, really gives AD's fear in dealing with them.

came out, and the NCAA banned Sorsby. He was banned from playing, and TT not only complied, they did not complain, nor did they try to fight it.
Then you get a judges order on Monday that states that the kid is eligible. We all know what the right thing is for the "integrity" of the game, but that argument sounds hollow to me given the developments over the past several years. It's easy to call out TT.
What is the right thing to do for the kid? He is 22, and no where out there is anyone talking about that. A judges ruling states that he is eligible, and not even TT has come out and said they agree with the ruling. As a matter of fact, I have yet to see one article, or even on poster that has come out in favor of that ruling - including me.
Pay his scholarship, pay his NIL, keep him on the team and support his recovery - but don't play him. It will not matter what TT does here. Kick him off the team, and go to court. Have the B12 ban him, and go to court. Play him, and be ostracized by all of the hypocrisy the sport has exhibited over the years.
This is a text book example of why the NCAA needs to have anti trust. I don't know how you can fairly compensate the players - it's a mess - but a simple rule that gambling on your team? That should be an easy one, and a judge (bias or not) should not e the one making the rules.

TT is already a lightning rod for controversy in the time of change, this just ruins any credibility that they may have had left.

It’s true TT didn’t sue. They should have already suspended kid. Or simply rid of issue that’s potentially a monster in the makes.
I’m not against kid in terms of maybe second chance one day. Just never in college football nor at Texas Tech. TTU needs to wash their hands . Remind themselves they have so much coin they can buy qb soon .
Soresby? Kid you need to do right thing. You screwed up. It’s time for you to go Canada or USFL. Rebuild trust and maybe in time get a chance. But you have forfeited your college years. Man up! If not your school needs to!

also needs to be taken care of. This hasn't played out, and everyone is making assumptions on a judges decision. My posts show where I stand on Sorsby - but this isn't about the kid anymore.
