well if you want to be technical the enterprise value of all these schools
Ohio State, VT , JMU etc. is pretty much zero on a cash flow basis as no one is paying dividends or returning financial value to shareholders- whatever revenue you generate gets spent.
And in pro sports the payoff is when you sell the franchise to some other egotistical bigger fool, because again they arent generating much, if any, positive cash flow either.
So yeah this "analysis" is just a pageantry of revenue generation , not truly "value".

I dont doubt that 20 is the number that maxes revs for b1g and sec schools
And makes the most clean efficient way to NFLize college football for the major networks. Im sure their white page projections show that structure as Case 1A.
Left alone by Congress, Courts and Public Opinion that will be likely the end game. But i dont think it will be left alone.

That VT MBB doesnt try hard to play a game in the DC area
every season during or near the holidays is a mystery to me. I realize it is easier (and maybe more economic- although that may be false) to stay in Blacksburg and play another lay up. But the need to keep the DMV alumni base engaged outweighs any down side. So many possibilities for opponents- maybe even do a doubleheader with the WBB.

Will Stewart has , as is his right, taken a draconian stance on any political discourse. IMO it is then more then appropriate to have a pretty low bar for inappropriate sexually suggested posts or photos. I didn't even see the post, in question but I have seen enough examples in over two decades that were overtly sexual and even more so immature/childish.

Other than Enter Sandman at the entrance. Find our own pop sing-along in the 2nd half like Sweet Caroline or Hang on Sloopy (Ohio St) or I Won't Back Down (Florida) or Build Me Up Buttercup (BC). Those would keep students around a lot longer then the alma mater or hokie pokie and frankly be a lot more fun and TV worthy.

If Darwinism rules then there wont be many, or any, free NFL games any more
And that aint happening , because although we live in a world where it is presently unable to get 51-60+ senators to agree to do ANYTHING in a bipartisan manner, sports is probably the one exception where they can grandstand and look like the heroes.
And there is a big enough aggregate constituency of non P2 athletic programs stakeholders out there that to force a solution preventing them from collectively dying- no matter what the networks or P2 may prefer. And I'll say for the umpteenth time, this doesnt mean the other schools are going to be "equal" to the P2 , just that a structure will exist that will allow conferences like the ACC and B12 and its members to be viable. This is all going to be a protracted negotiated "settlement" and wont be subject to the forces of unbridled capitalism that may have doomed parts of Hollywood or Betamax machines.

I agree that congress will ultimate be driving the bus on the end game
however my view is that expansion largely wont be necessary . The best example I can think of is MLB where not all franchises are economically equal like the NFL is more or less. It is accepted that NY and LA a few others start on third base .
The P2 understand the game of rolling over everyone else is likely done. They just want to maximize their advantage in whatever is coming. I think whatever ultimately is done in the end will allow the FSU Clemson's UNC (VT) etc. to be close enough that they wont need to be in the P2.

What a bunch of self dealing corrupt scoundrels. Yes the red card was an injustice and they could have ajudicated and systemically overturned it in 12 hours and no one would be freaking out. Now they almost assuredly must overturn the England red card from last night or risk looking bought off.

I get the need for an off side rule in soccer BUT
why is it necessary when the ball is already deep inside the offensive end of the field? Shouldn't the defenders have some responsibility for marking their man and not letting him get behind him?

I just dont think they would succeed . All hell would break out and Congress would figure out a way to abort it or severely punish the SEC.
Again I dont doubt it has been discussed but pulling the trigger sounds more like another F$U fantasy.

The potential pooling of media is one aspect of the legislation
And all it does is allow conferences to do so without breaking laws, it isnt an edict to require it. The legislation is MUCH more about reigning eligibility and providing structure to portal and nil.

You see this all as P2 vs other conferences. Sure that is part of it, protecting their inherent advantage. But even more so this really is about reforming the relationship between all conferences vs. players.
It is about making the cost of doing business less and making the industry more stable . Hell even in The Godfather the Five Famalies made peace from time to time for the sake of bidness.
The P2 arent against legislation passing, they just want it to be as favorable to them as possible. The Wild Wild West isnt in anyones interest other then the players. View this more as a Labor dispute and less as an antitrust issue. The P2 doesn't need to run the ACC and B12 out of business to succeed.

This is another step in a protracted negotiation
between the P2, the ACC/B12 and to a lesser extent the rest of D1. Congressional votes will more or less just mirror those constituencies . The P2 will ultimately support legislation but it is in their best interest to slow play because 1) they want to claw back a more favorable deal then presently proposed and 2) they might as well enjoy the lion's share of the existing "structure" as long as they can.

I feel the average casual college basketball fan
doesnt realize (by a large factor) that the NBA is the most selective pro sports league in the world when considering actual spots vs worldwide candidates.
Also that MLB and NFL are just entirely different models. MLB is just a huge numbers game- get as many bodies (affordably) under contract through the draft or via Central American/Cuba/Haiti initiatives and see was ultimately, over years, rises. NFL is much more detailed and heavily researched for 7 rounds deep. In the NBA you effectively spend all your efforts on who you are going to draft in the first round (and free agency). Sure who you sign to the G League can manner in team depth should you get hit with injuries, but it is still a relatively minor factor in building a top NBA franchise.

I guess it is better than being a free agent economically but from a practical standpoint of sticking on a roster probably not much difference.
IMO Tobi is a perfect flyer pick....the odds are high , but the upside if his skill level catches up anywhere near his athleticism would be home runish.

He was more or less a traditional college PG for Jay Wright and didn't look for his shot all that much. He sacrificed some personal accomplishments for titles.

I'll back off the G6 sharing part but I do think the P4 will figure it out
Congress, like it or not, will drive the end game- to me that is increasingly clear.
I just did a quick cursory look at the schools in the P4- the ACC/B12 combo is 20 states, 40 senators, the SEC/B1G is I think 26 states, 52 senators. However remember several states overlap between the two camps. And then there are the states that in theory have no dog in the fight (except the G6).
The bottom line is for any consensus on legislation to be enacted it will have to satisfy both camps (and possibly the G6 states too) . So it will push them towards long term cooperation. Again, it isn't "sharing" per se, it is the pooling media rights. The devil will be in the details on how you split the revs up but ultimately it will end up with the Ohio States and Alabamas having some revenue advantage, just not the predatory monopoly that they may want.

I think we ultimately end up
with a world where all div 1 collectively negotiates media rights , like the NFL, because that is how you maximize revs.
The thorny issue of course is how do you devide those massive revenues. I think they will still do so via conference based on complex formulas which will somewhat reward based on ratings . Obviously the B1G and SEC will still payout more but may kick back enough to the rest for the benefit from 1) a bigger pie and 2) better stability and industry peace.

I'm less certain there will ever really be a P2 then I was previously
Congressional action seems inevitable and the purpose of any SEC threats is really about leverage- negotiating the most advantageous deal .
End result will slow conference realignment to a crawl and but leave the SEC and B1G with some built in degree of economic advantages that will be grudgingly acceptable to the ACC/B12 and the rest.
I think that is where all this ends if I'm reading tea leaves correctly.

None of this makes sense to me. Im betting everyone expected this to
never happen. It was all speculative, with a blow up date at the beginning of June unless miraculously a bunch of hurdles had been cleared.
I cant believe uva and ncsu spent much non refundable money on flights hotels other arrangements . This thing just never passed the sniff test .
I wonder how many fans actually made arrangements though based on this sham....and what happens to their money. That sounds like a potential mess.
