College sports is uniquely different than the pro leagues because large chunks of revenue can come in from donations. And that donation money can vary widely from year to year.
Compare that to ticket sales, merchandise sales, media money, and conference money that is much more direct as earned revenue. That’s the assessment I’d do to get to a value number.

Ohio State, VT , JMU etc. is pretty much zero on a cash flow basis as no one is paying dividends or returning financial value to shareholders- whatever revenue you generate gets spent.
And in pro sports the payoff is when you sell the franchise to some other egotistical bigger fool, because again they arent generating much, if any, positive cash flow either.
So yeah this "analysis" is just a pageantry of revenue generation , not truly "value".

the big final payoff is selling the franchise, however, many do cash flow and some even more than meets the eye with indirect payouts.
