A thought exercise...
What if:
Soccer (Fütbol) had no Offsides Rule.
Hockey had no Offsides Rule.
Basketball HAD an Offsides Rule.
Talk amongst yourselves.

eliminated it and scoring increased slightly, but there was/is no significant change to the overall game, other than a more exciting speed of the game. Big improvement for fans.

RE soccer... is there another sport that rewards & promotes being a victim?
The constant whining and flopping is so phony... especially when most sports celebrate stoicism and toughness... it's hard to stomach.

Remember when John McEnroe used to go and argue calls? He wasn't doing that solely because he thought it was a bad call, but a lot of the times it was used to give him a break from the action.

Makes for good cover, the insults he hurled at the officials.

The insults hurled were real, but McEnroe often took long pauses by walking to the official slowly, would make one comment like "really," or "that ball was out" and then slowly walk back to the court, look back at the official, give a bad look, take a deep breath, then resume play. He clearly had a bad temper and hurled insults, but some of it at certain times were to get a break. Baseline players aren't crashing the net after every return or every serve. McEnroe would literally charge the net from the second the ball left his racket when he served and when he returned a serve, he did the same thing and this went on the entire match. That's exhausting for 3 or 4 or 5 sets compared to the opposite baseline guy like an Ivan Lendl.

why is it necessary when the ball is already deep inside the offensive end of the field? Shouldn't the defenders have some responsibility for marking their man and not letting him get behind him?
Croatia got hosed like a brush fire IMO last night.

in basketball, there'd be enough scoring that the announcer would be yelling GOOOOALLL every minute. No thank you.
