Now we are acquiring some. I'm optimistic this OC will make it so. Doesn't he also have a QB coach from PSU who knows what Franklin wants as well as an analyst from Wake who has been successful running offenses. It appears Franklin has put together a very competent staff. If he can keep them together, we will thrive.

his offensive system implemented. One that obviously has been good for his success. Thatâs why he has gone this route, imo. If Rahne had been available he possibly would have gotten the job. What head coach, especially the one with the third best active winning percentage in major college football, would hire an OC and say, âthe offense is yoursâ.

Our perspective at VT has been the past, see inexperienced OC, but look at the person who hired and payroll limitations. Fuente, got what he got with a cheap payroll, Pry, never been a head coach, hired what he thought.
VT has NEVER had an established national coach come in to organize a football program. I trust his portfolio and experience to make 'informed' decisisions much deeper that n the previous 2 coaching staffs.
At the end, Franklin will direct the Offense. Period. (and no matter what the PSU thinks, he pretty DAMN well, transitioning PSU from Paterno, and convoluted Bill O Brian to a national brand.). None of us could have done that

P4 DC plus a new OC thatâs oriented towards the HCâs offensive philosophy should be fine. See also the first 2 years of Fu although he wasnât a highly experienced P4 coach.

Franklin appears to be a good recruiter, but will that make up for a completely inexperienced OC? I'm gonna reserve final judgement on that but yeah, it doesn't look good. I don't think we'll win more than 7 games based on that alone.

It doesn't give me a ton of confidence.
Cornelson had some very good years here...he was a solid OC. Stiney is in a category of multi-layered VT lore that he alone occupies...lol.
What also gives me pause....we have a very spotty record of success with drop back quarterbacks as well...mostly because we can almost never seem to ever put a high performing Oline on the field. Unless Grunk is some kind of transformational player, he's going to struggle big time if the oline is even just average.

It's not automatic that there will be bad years.
Bud was great from day one. Chad Morris was great the very first year he moved up from high school. Etc. I understand the concern based on past experience, but there are plenty of first year coordinators who have done a good job.

Franklin will be pretty involved in the offense. Heâs stated that one of the benefits of hiring Pry was to have a person who could run the defense. I donât think heâs said anything similar about Howle or the offensive staff.
The early tune up games are critical for establishing an offensive identity and rhythm.
