Finally watched it a few months ago.
It was good, but I actually thought Zulu Dawn was better. Zulu Dawn was the prequel that was made about 10 years later about the buildup to Rorke's Drift. Peter O'Toole in the lead role.

Confederate snipers were about 800-1,000 yards away firing Whitworth rifles, and the Union troops were hesitant to move forward.
"What? Men dodging this way for single bullets? What will you do when they open fire along the whole line? I am ashamed of you. They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."
Seconds later he was killed by a bullet below the eye.
Helluva shot at 800-1,000 yards.

These days athletes stay for both summer sessions.
And the true freshmen mostly enroll early, so they get January plus two summer sessions before their first season even begins, so they get a massive head start. Because of that, it's quite easy these days to take the minimum 12 hours during the fall and still be on time, or even ahead.
Personal example...I enrolled with 18 hours of dual enrollment from high school before I ever attended a class my first fall semester. I was a sophomore after my first semester. That's similar to football players in this era. These days, football players are often at 18 hours, or even more, before their first fall semester begins. I actually had to slow down and take just 12 hours per semester for the rest of my college career to make sure I didn't graduate early.
As far as what credits transfer and all of that, I suppose it varies, but because they enroll early and take classes during both summer sessions, they have a lot more leeway than they did in the past.

That said...
I spent only about 5-10 minutes coming up with my list, and didn't put much thought into it. I just looked at the schedules of the teams that I think will be around VT in the standings.
In the end, we'll all be wrong, because we'll likely be in some weird 3-way tie for anywhere from 4th through 7th. Preseason predictions in the age of the portal and unbalanced scheduling are pointless.

Their schedule is easy.
VT plays three of the top four teams, and all three on the road. UVA only plays one of the top four.
Strong chance VT is better than UVa, but it might not show up in the standings because our schedule (on paper) is a lot more difficult.

I watched a documentary on him recently.
And started the Teddy Roosevelt documentary last night.
I want to read more about FDR, particularly how he handled the buildup to WW2, and then WW2 itself. Got any book recommendations?

It's not automatic that there will be bad years.
Bud was great from day one. Chad Morris was great the very first year he moved up from high school. Etc. I understand the concern based on past experience, but there are plenty of first year coordinators who have done a good job.

Yeah, they are here.
Same stuff as every summer...going to summer school, lifting weights, doing conditioning. And there's some limited time they can spend on the court with the coaches these days, so they are doing that as well.

She's made the postseason every season as a head coach.
And would have made the NCAAs with a pretty high seed during the COVID year, but obviously it got cancelled. She's made the NCAA Tournament three of the last four years, and four of her last six. On paper, she's as good or better hire as Brooks was when he was hired, since he had no Power Conference experience. And she was a better hire than Bonnie, who had no previous head coaching experience at all. So she's either (on paper) the best or second best hire we've ever made.
But I can't tell if you're trolling or not.

I'm not sure what the NIL/Rev share looks like, but...
Here are the traditional expenditures of the women's program for the last three years, per our financial reports...
FY23: $5.29 million
FY24: $7.21 million
FY25: $6.5 million
So after making the Final Four (FY23), we appear to have given Kenny a lot more resources (FY24). Then he left anyway, and our support dropped a bit (FY25). FY25 was Duffy's first year, so it's hard to say if we dropped support a bit, or if she just didn't spend as much, or some of both. We'll know the FY26 numbers at this time next year, so the sample size will be bigger.
But this a better conversation for the women's hoops board.

The Mexico watch party in Atlanta was at the Battery/Sports & Social on Sunday night. I was there. Me and 5,000 drunk Mexico fans. That was interesting.

Actually, Dreadnought had 12" guns.
There was a steady progression of gun sizes. From 12" to 13.5" to 15" to 16". I believe the Nagato (1920) was the first battleship to carry 16" guns. The biggest battleships of WWI were 15" guns, but Jutland was mostly fought with 12" and 13.5" guns.

He'll play the Schutt role.
He's not as tall, but he seems to be a better/more consistent shooter. Schutt played 24.6 minutes per game last year, though he wouldn't have played quite that many had Johnson not been injured.

Well, I don't think they are very smart then.
We are a much-improved team. I thought before the WC started we had about a 10% chance to beat Belgium. Then I saw us play, and we were much better than I thought, so I raised my chances to about 30%. But they were always the pretty clear favorite...if you throw out a lot of the happy feels/WC is in America type of stuff, which I'm guessing is what drove a lot of the predictions/bets.

We aren't very young, no. Not by soccer standards.
Our entire midfield is Premier League or Bundesliga players. Premier League is the best league in the world, and the strongest and most physical, and the Bundesliga is really good, too. And those guys are experienced. We've got a ton of experience, overall. Our left back plays in the Premier League. Our right back plays in Spain, a really good league. Richards is Premier League. Etc.
Defensively, Belgium was by far the best team we've played, and they were always going to make it difficult for us to score. What we had to do to stay in the game was not make critical errors, and obviously we didn't do that. Main thing we lack is depth in defense (Ream is too old to be starting, but we don't have any other choice) and a top goal keeper. If we are better at those two spots, last night's game probably would have gone to extra time.

I think most would consider Belgium the favorite.
No. 8 in the world vs. No. 17 in the world, and we haven't beaten a European team in like 127 years. Belgium beat us 5-2 back in March.
I went into the game thinking we had about a 30% chance to win. We needed to not make critical errors to have a chance. Obviously we didn't do that.

I think that's generally an advantage.
Geographically, the academy system works a lot better if the country is small. Brazil is the outlier, but 92% of their population lives in urban centers, so the academies are concentrated in those few places like Rio and Sao Paulo. Same for Argentina. I think our massive size geographically hurts us a bit. .

I don't really blame them. They aren't arguing that it was a red card or not. But they are pissed that FIFA didn't appraise them of what was going on, offer an explanation, and Belgium had to find out about it on social media. It's a fair complaint, and from the outside looking in, probably does appear to the rest of the world to be favoritism.
