Good lord we got owned.
That felt like karma. Probably deserved.
If you’re a keeper 20yds from your box with a striker charging you, you boot the ball away!

I think that's generally an advantage.
Geographically, the academy system works a lot better if the country is small. Brazil is the outlier, but 92% of their population lives in urban centers, so the academies are concentrated in those few places like Rio and Sao Paulo. Same for Argentina. I think our massive size geographically hurts us a bit. .

Generally dominated by smaller countries like Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, etc. with similar academy structure. US college teams Generally dominated by smaller countries like Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, etc. with similar academy structure. US college teams are also stacked with internationals that get the benefit of the competition here and their home club teams.

the resilient team trying to overcome a bad break to the entitled team that had the rules changed for it. To be clear I’m not faulting the players here. But the perception of the team changed on a dime. Before yesterday I think a decent number of neutral fans were rooting for us. After yesterday I think most of the rest of the world was rooting against us.

Correct. Belgium really wanted to crush us after that.
I don't really blame them. They aren't arguing that it was a red card or not. But they are pissed that FIFA didn't appraise them of what was going on, offer an explanation, and Belgium had to find out about it on social media. It's a fair complaint, and from the outside looking in, probably does appear to the rest of the world to be favoritism.

downfield. I don't think coming out to collect the ball was the mistake, the execution after that was a nightmare.
