The real experts didn't have expectations for US to progress much deeper..

the US would need 2 generational players playing in the same time period to even have a shot. It's easier to do it on the women's side but millions of (non-US) boys are playing soccer/futbol from 4 yr olds up dreaming about one day playing for their national team.

The Lounge 3 w ago

Indecisive. should have cleared but changed mind mid-kick

defender could have used his hands too...but would have likely ended the same

solid point..Coach Franklin has some runway and using a different

framework + in a different coaching cycle. But experience IS valuable (ask Indiana and others)...

Was odd to have these 2 in Brazil to begin with...I could see

a ND vs MIA type of match-up but teams are becoming more protective with their non-conf schedules/opponent strength

Refreshing? College sports have/are becoming unattached to college...

I guess the refreshing part is that a number is now public plus VT is starting to organize as a sports business and hopefully limiting institutional exposure/risk via llc/non-profit. Even so, fans should not expect many sports to be above average. Can only afford to resource 1 (maybe 2 if 1 isn't football) sport at a top tier level (95% of schools are in the same position).

It’s a football train/engine..

Have to adjust expectations for non fb lower and increase football expectations… If fb isn’t top 3 ACC this year it’s a miss.. no excuses

Great deal of exposure for VT...Do you think people

nationally or regionally care about a VT scrimmage? I'd prefer that it did not happen and thankful injuries were minor...But it got VT "free" national exposure from a non-negative event.

Happy for her.. Likely her "dream" school but did CMD a solid by

following her to VT. I wouldn't be surprised if coach didn't help transition back...

Luke Murray (son of Bill) takes over at BC

Should be interesting to watch...BC would be wise (imo) to better resource (re-balance to) men's and women's basketball. There just seems like a void in that area and football (there) is an extreme climb. Both programs are in the basement (with coachNew reset) so it'll be interesting to watch what BC basketball does to change.

Well..there will be many looking for a new home..sounds like

UTenn's roster is in the portal. seems like they've had some program friction with coachNew (not a nil-only issue when all hit exit).

99.9% don't know what a specific univ nil budget is and

that number can change with 1 donor's decision. It seems progression requires talent, skill + experience/age...just look at the ucla wbb "age" or Indiana's fb age/experience.. As far as nil, vt has to get football right so i expect mbb (and wbb) to not measurably increase nil & there's a premium on capable Jr/Sr/Grads.

Hope I’m wrong, but I dont

See vt upgrading with equal jr/sr experience w/ current nil .

You’re trolling I assume.. literally

Approaching her prime.. …’Was second in the nation (and tops in the ACC) in assist-to-turnover ratio this season at 6.0. Will be a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Well nil adds friction to relationships

I.e.. β€œwhy is player x getting x and im getting 1/3 ?” Idk . I thought I read that maybe her sister playing elsewhere too?

IMO. Mackie could play at most any t10 program that

Has a spot/need.. These 2 departing is nearly a total reset…perpetual rebuild.. I don’t blame cmd.. she’s a good coach … it’s just where college sports are in today’s environment for the mass middle.. VT football needs to deliver big..

Has Mackenzie Nelson announced? She'll get attention but hope

that she stays... She's becoming a "trusted" player... someone you want on-court as much as possible

Was thinking same BUT for WBB where a "little" extra makes a difference..

MBB seems to be headed towards an enterprise where another 100-500k does not move the needle.

Part of me thinks vt mbb should adopt vcu's model:

1 mil coach...then shift "savings" to nil... Not great for coach longevity but the game changes every year anyway...until there are some rules...

Essentially who spent the most... USC-e for example is nearly 7M/year in

the red. For non-oil or free money universities, it seems like most programs have to pick their sports winners and losers...

There were some solid high school classes

In those years in va.. if I remember, Harvin (or other top va kid) suffered from migraines pretty bad…

He acts/comes-across as a-holish at some point during a game... Last game

running up to the ref on-court, coat half off , nearly butt-butting the ref. BUT he is a great coach and gets high performance. As long as he's not abusing his players, it's entertaining..The refs are adults and can address his behavior should they choose. That said, LSU has cornered the market on crazy...Uconn only has 1 :-)...

HaHa...as they should know, every team is bought at tourney level

I thought Duke would win it all this year, but a lil luck helps as you near the top. Fun game to watch.

Can’t compare Duke bb to vt bb

Duke has to get MBB β€œright” It’s who they are… Vt has to get football right.. Vt can’t chop 30m from football to match Duke in bb

UNC basketball is different vs VT basketball..Much of their identity and

energy (and resources) "require" men's bb to perform beyond an invite. Jordan(the man and brand) aren't going to settle for just an invite and have the resources to back change. Vt HAS to get football right first...no need to pay (non-fb) coaches to not coach.

they bring eyes/viewership...whether you hate/love them

In literal terms, the game could lose most anyone and survive...But this is an entertainment business and the "boos" aren't bad for business.

hard pass..vt needs football to get right soon...redistributing 20m+ to

hoops just isn't wise imo. Hopefully fb success generates more revenue that can be added to the gen-fund.
