This was Danny Hurley's finest hour.
Obviously, he's already done great things at UConn and even at Rhode Island. But this was really something to behold today. Look, the dude is a bit of an assclown and perhaps easy to dislike. But I thought when he was down about 9 fouls to 3 against Duke that he was going to blow a gasket and come undone. But he was unusually composed. Then, to come out in the second half and just chip away at the big Duke lead was impressive. Then, at the end, his guys had the wherewithal to get the steal, the best shot available, and then hit the shot was the stuff of legends. It is a pleasure to watch them compete. Now, let the record reflect that I am rooting for Illinois in the Final Four. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 3/30/2026, 12:07:38 AM

Im not sure why some folks dont like him
He's just a genuine guy who wears his emotions. Sign me up for the next Hurley at VT.

You answered your own question.
"He's just a genuine guy who wears his emotions." He comes across as kind of odd in so doing, as opposed to genuine, like some people.

just dont get that at all
why is that odd? isnt that what every one of us fans does almost constantly every game in person or on TV? I'm not saying whether it is necessary productive or not productive for a coach. all kinds of coaching personalities can succeed or fail . i just dont get why anyone would be against the guy for showing his "I'm human" side. He isnt malicious- he's mad at someone one moment, hugging them the next.

He acts/comes-across as a-holish at some point during a game... Last game
running up to the ref on-court, coat half off , nearly butt-butting the ref. BUT he is a great coach and gets high performance. As long as he's not abusing his players, it's entertaining..The refs are adults and can address his behavior should they choose. That said, LSU has cornered the market on crazy...Uconn only has 1 :-)...

Illinois is the "Cinderella" now. But, the best draw of the 3 for UConn.
