Is that any different than a guy that's been getting taken down all match
only go get taken down with 4 near fall?
AKA Seidel v Forrest in Bburg?
I think both of the styles have the potential for large points against the flow of the match.

If the USA is going to ascend the rung of world soccer
We need to get back to producing world class keepers. Our current stock just isn't it and while us not producing outfield players is understandable from our history, up until 2022, we'd had great keepers for a looooong time. It's a bit head scratching why we have such a drought.

If you come out like that, you immediately belt the ball a mile back
downfield. I don't think coming out to collect the ball was the mistake, the execution after that was a nightmare.

Good lord we got owned.
That felt like karma. Probably deserved.
If youâre a keeper 20yds from your box with a striker charging you, you boot the ball away!

You don't get points for being honorable.
Any other major team or contender had this happen to them, they would play the player.
We should play Balogun if he's available and if he's a better option than what we have available on the bench(I bet he is). All of the loudest voices screaming about this would do the EXACT same thing and play their guy.

This is when it turns into playoff level hockey investment.
I wish Mexico had shown a little more grit in the last 20 minutes. They kind of wilted even though England ceded possesion and were under seige.

I think it's already a poop show and FIFA is as corrupt or more
corrupt than the IOC.
We can agree to disagree but I think an appointed committee of experienced referees that can arbitrate on red card offenses is an appropriate step. Meet daily during the tournament and go over ALL red card offenses and uphold the punishment by the on field ref or strip the suspension part.

I think he's got serious mental issues. Full stop.
His behavior on and off the mat backs up that assessment.

This FIFA intervention is blowing up.
UEFA(European Football) is commenting. Appeals by UEFA to have it overturned and to have the decision defended(by USA and CONCACAF) were due 30 min ago.
It's turned into an unfortunate distraction. There really SHOULD be a red card appeal process at these tournaments. The fact that there isn't in the age of VAR is kind of nuts. If a panel of refs thinks a decision on the field is harsh after the fact, they should be able to overturn it and leave the missing of a partial game as the full punishment and play on.

You can complain about the no calls. The offsides are tough to whine about
because according to the rule...we're offsides. I'd like there to be a tolerance in that rule now that they can measure it to the mm of a foot or 25cm or whatever unit you want to use. I don't think being 1mm forward of your defender gives you a real advantage. A foot or more? sure.
The refs have been letting them play and that's not just in our games. I found the red card egregious because of the clear lack of intent and a player that was going for the ball and had to step somewhere and unfortunately his foot landed on the calf and slid down. Absolutely a yellow card but I don't think that rises to a red card unless he does cause serious injury.

I saw a finance guy do the math out on it and for responsible investors
deferring all that money for all these years is a poor decision due to the time value of money. For people without fiscal discipline, it makes a lot more since and is much more helpful.

morning. i cut them up individually. They smoke faster and they behave like finger foods. Just walk on by and grab one.

Koeman only played with 2 midfielders. At that point, they're ceding the
ball to the moroccans. The knives are out for Koeman on this. I've already seen multiple "that was the coach's decision" quotes from Dutch players.

Interesting side quest happened yesterday in WC yesterday.
Algeria and Austria faced off in final group stage game. If Algeria didn't lose the game, they were through. If Austria drew or won, they were through.
It's almost full time and both teams are 2 to 2 and playing pass back and forth with no threat. It looks like they've both accepted a draw and both go in(at the expense of Iran). Then in the 92' Algerian star Mahrez makes a run and the ball if passed incisively into the defense with a great through ball to Mahrez for the goal. Totally catching the Austrian's off guard.
There's a dark history between the two teams. In 1982, the WC was played in spain and the final game of a group was played between W. Germany and Austria. The other group game had already been played earlier that day and both teams(Austria and W Germany) needed a certain outcome to both go through. They clearly talked before the game and agreed on the outcome. W. Germany scored early and both teams just passed the ball back and forth for the remainder of the 90 minutes. Assuring W. Germany and Austria qualified. The team that was the victim of this arrangement? Algeria.
Speculation is that Algeria did that to Austria on purpose last night as revenge. Austria scrambled to sub players on and scored again with ~20 seconds left in the game to tie it up again and ultimately advanced.
The W. Germany v Austria game is colloquially referred to as the Disgrace of Gijon. That game alone made FIFA play all of the last group stage matches simultaneously so that matches couldn't be fixed like that anymore. It's one of the many black marks on World Football. While FIFA usually is the main protagonist in this, two countries(one of them a world football powerhouse) created one of the more horrible spectacles and have been jeered about it ever since.

Pretty bummed about the outcome of the game last night. But there were
some positives in it.
Negatives
-There was a lot of momentum built up around the first two wins and carrying that through to a third and winning all of the group games would have been a really nice feather in the cap as well as carrying that forward into the knock out stages
-Our backup CBs and backline is not looking all that strong. They were out of sorts all night and it could possibly be chalked up to a lack of chemistry not talent, but the results were poor and they were consistently poor for the whole match
-mid field disappeared for large swaths of the night with the exception of Mckinnie. We were also running a 4-3-3 which isn't a formation we've played at the WC yet. That puts a premium on having good midfielders that can hold possession and find the ball.
-I didn't love Pocchetino's reaction after the game. You subbed on starters with 10-20 minutes left in the game. You clearly wanted a draw at least. Don't downplay the result. If you had sat on your hands and left the backups in, this tact has more credibility. You subbed Pulisic on to get him some game minutes but the rest of the subs reeked of trying to claw back a good result which means you DID care.
Positives
-Pulisic looked fit and good
-When we subbed on some starters, we got noticeably better
-A lot of players got WC playing time. They can tell their kids about it later and if we need them to come into a game, they played and know what it feels like.
-Set pieces still seem like a strong point for this team and that is a big positive heading into the knockouts
-We won the group!

I'm hoping seeing the success a truly vetted and proven european club coach
can provide finally gets USSF to stop pulling from the MLS ranks every few cycles.
It's just not as a good. Pay the money required and give us the best chance of developing.
I think you offer Pocchetino whatever we can(double his salary) to stay but I don't think he will. It's not about the money that can be offered at national team level. A high quality European coach can make $15M-$25M a year if he's hired by the one of the big clubs. No national team can pay that.

Eh...I doubt it. He's still a young guy and likely wants to get back into
club management(more $ too). He's a wanted figure especially with how this USA team looks. National team jobs are typically for guys wanting to coast into retirement with the much less rigorous year long schedule.
I'd love for him to stay but I think we need to prepare for him to leave. Plus the GM that hired him is now the GM of Saudi Arabia so much like a coach leaves after an AD change, could be the same.

I think our coaching is making a huge difference. This is what world
class coaching feels like and Pocchetino IS a world class coach. He's made the right tactical moves and has picked the right team and is man managing to have them peak at the appropriate time.
We need to move away from American coaches until they prove themselves in the crucible of Europe's professional leagues.

If you're streaming TV and movies. I'd think you'd need 200MB/s at a
minimum. Under the assumption that your speeds will be halved most of the time due to network traffic and them never living up to their posted maximums.
We stream TV and game as well with a 500 mb/s connection with spectrum. No lag issues but I think you'd need at least 200 Mb/s to make it even feasible.

This would be a financially smart decision for the schools since they're
on the hook if(and when) the wrestlers get hurt and need medical care.

Ream is a starter and a rock in the defense. You want older CBs.
Itâs a position that values experience.

I can't tell who is to blame for the ticketing debacle. Is it FIFA or USSF
or the host cities? I assume it's FIFA since it is so widespread.

Sounds like Rocovitch was making decisions alone that would normally be
made in committee. It was ruffling feathers for all and then he went one decision too far. At least that's what the insiders are saying.

My 6 year old spends 8 hours a day on the weekends outside roaming
the neighborhood with his posse of misfits. They play football, baseball, they do make believe stuff. We have clear boundaries on where they can and cant go and they can't go in anyone's house without telling us. But the mom's are all on a text group and let everyone know when the kids are at their place.
I get a lot of concerned looks from people when I tell them about it but he comes home at night exhausted, smelly, and gloriously tired. And if he wants to grab his kid's fire tablet for an hour to chill out, no complaints from me at that point.

We overperformed during the regular season in our duals.
So when you looked at that performance, i think we were hopeful for a strong nationals showing, but I'd say we finished at Nationals where a lot of us would have expected at the beginning of the year.
On a huge positive note, we had true freshman contributions that were phenomenal and unexpected. Combine that with the incoming class(best one ever for us), I think next year looks extremely positive and the following recruiting class also looks incredibly promising. Plus Caleb drops back into the lineup next year and anytime you can bring back a national champion only helps.
