It used to just be a best of 3 to conclude the world team trials tournament, but they gave it it's own event. Caleb was wrestling for true third, not to be the actual rep for worlds.

Supporting dollars, events and training with the team, Maybe all that time thru October was too much of a commitment. Just guessing, wish him best.

tournament and the monthly stipend. A big piece is next year being an Olympic cycle means that the Olympic Team will be decided way earlier than it is this year. I don't think he would've had time for an overseas event which is the big benefit in my personal opinion.

curious if RTCs or schools like Tech provide health insurance for its athletes. So many injuries and surgeries in this sport.
Never seen the topic covered before.

on the hook if(and when) the wrestlers get hurt and need medical care.

And I was hoping to see it. But not a huge deal imo. Forfeits for true 3rd are pretty common. I don't know what's up with Caleb, but don't he would be sitting out of he was actually in the finals. Hope whatever it is isn't major

That the stipend is pretty minimal. If what I read on the USA wrestling website is right (it just has "remaining World Team members", so I assume that includes anyone on the team, even if they're not the rep), they get $1,170 a month. Which isn't chump change, but it's hardly significant for most athletes these days. And I believe they pay for tournament entry fees and travel, but that just gets absorbed by the respective clubs, so as long as everyone is on the same page, it's not really a huge deal to bow out of true third matches.
