She's at quite a few of the same tournaments my son wrestles in, so I've seen her around. They're the same year.

But she was competitive in both of her losses (consi-semi and 5/6th) except for the semi-final loss where she just got thrown to her back and it was over, 45 seconds in.

I literally laughed out loud.

Long story short, if you lose in the quarters (Rd of 8), you actually drop to the consi quarters (Rd of 12). IF you win there, you then go to the consi-sub-semis (Rd of 8... again) which is a truly terrible name. But that's where he lost, which dropped him into the 7th/8th place match. If he had won, he would've gone to the consi-semis (Rd of 6). The Rd of 12 is also called the "blood round" because if you get past it, you're an All American. If you lose, your tournament is over. Confused yet?

Though it's worth mentioning that he's wrestled Eggum more than a few times I believe. Familiarity may have played a part.

Why couldn't he do that the last match is beyond me.

I never thought he was going to lose. But man oh man, when he turns it on, like that first exchange for 2 that he scored when down 3, he's terrifying.

Only slick wrestling and defense by Dhabolt kept him in that match.

Konopka didn't do enough, to be sure, but that NEVER should have been a passivity on him. He was instigating the action for 5:55 of that match.

He looks so uninterested when he wrestles. I know that's sort of his style... he's always been like that. But for those that have been following him longer than I (about 3-4 years), was he like that even when he was younger? Even against James, which was a really good match that he lost, he didn't seem interested. Like, he's lightning quick and undeniably a badass. I guess my question is what will it take to light a fire under him? I have to believe he's got the ability to "go Bo" on his opponents. Though that may be entirely unfair to even suggest that. What do yall think? Will he explode (even more) into college?

That the stipend is pretty minimal. If what I read on the USA wrestling website is right (it just has "remaining World Team members", so I assume that includes anyone on the team, even if they're not the rep), they get $1,170 a month. Which isn't chump change, but it's hardly significant for most athletes these days. And I believe they pay for tournament entry fees and travel, but that just gets absorbed by the respective clubs, so as long as everyone is on the same page, it's not really a huge deal to bow out of true third matches.

On the one hand, it's not like he has a cold. The dude was in the hospital for a knee infection. He earned the right, last year, to push it back. He's never been someone to duck and from what I hear, he's a really good dude too. Buttttttt Bo has a weight descent plan, a gradual workout plan that peaks right before Final X, as well as all the other life stuff that was arranged around this date. I don't know what the right answer is. Though I suspect HokieToph would be close to whatever answer they would settle on, if they ever actually changed the rules. At least minimizing the weight descent by giving him scratch + 1kg. Though I also think UWW probably wouldn't approve of that, which would create a ****show. I don't know how that would affect things in terms of eligibility for worlds. I don't know if they'd try to throw the proverbial brick and cause more headache than it's worth. Then you've got the U23 winner saying "WTF, mate?!" when (if) Bo beats Woods with the kilo allowance.
