Not a lot to touch on the Hokies front but Jovanni Tovar (still early especially now that they pushed back the recruiting timeframe but we'll definitely be in it for him) repping Colombia just smoked the US rep who's a PA state champ with several wins over Keegan Bassett. Took him a minute 30 and he wasn't even breathing heavy. He'll wrestle for Gold tomorrow.
The negative side is Team USA men's isn't doing too great. Women won Gold though so that's cool.
It's July and there's no football and the only wrestling is 17 year olds. It was either watch this or do actual work on a Friday which I try to stay away from as much as possible.

Fair point but Caleb's extra year was a true RS not a medical or a free
year where he wrestled an entire folkstyle season. If anything he should come back refreshed.

Agree on Bo's current strength, he was ragdolling grown men at 65kg
regarding the lineup I'd like to see Garcia or Campbell drop to 125 and the other take 133, I don't think Seidel holds 133 again. I don't see a path where one potential AA isn't on the bench which is a good problem to have.

If that's how it plays out we have a legit chance at 2 titles
I don't think you can pick against Jax, he's the type of guy who may end up with a career like that. I also like Bo over Stanich but I'm biased and Stanich does have the last win. If Bo beats Real Woods I think he should get the nod as the favorite (although we'll find out very early in the season if both guys go in the dual meet)

I haven't had a chance to listen to FRL yet but that does seem a bit off
at 149 is it Valencia, Van Ness, and Vega?
If that's the case you'd have to put either Bo or Seidel at 1 (whoever doesn't have Jax). I also think Caleb is better than Valencia and Van Ness - Vega we'll see but not going to claim anything about him after his performance against Mendez.

That was a ridiculous passivity, but if your only scores are a step out and activity point it's hard to argue. Disappointing that we won't get to see Konopka vs. Ladd Holman though

I think part of what makes him really good is he can go from 0 to 100 MPH in the blink of an eye. If he tried to wrestle a different style (like Bo for example) he loses that edge IMO

Personal coaches handle the individual coaching at the tournament
US Coach responsibilities are the development camp and logistics.
I'm sure they're lightly involved in strategy and prep but it isn't like a team practice or anything when they go to the tournament, they just set up facilities and let the individuals work out with their coaches as they see fit.

RTC supplements VT
and by winning the US Open the RTC athletes(Bo and Ryan) gained funding from USA Wrestling to take the trip among other benefits. Walz was there as an RTC/Club Coach technically. In reality we know he's a VT coach but I believe all of our coaches are also RTC/Club Coaches.
To answer the question - J'Den Cox is the director of the USA U20 team running the camps/trip and there are other appointed coaches to oversee the trip but guys bring their personal coaches as long as they're certified with USA Wrestling. For example at U20 Trials Seidel had Marsteller (his club coach) and Frayer in his corner. Bo had his dad and Frayer. Probably will see those same pairings at worlds.

I liked the one day format as a fan but I get it
It was going late enough that I'd have to stay overnight anyways so may as well have two days of wrestling. I could see it being a little light for two days with only 7 teams though.

Stanich could handle it a year ago but it seems to be different now
I think he is stronger and I also think his technique has caught up with his pace to some degree. This is more based on the US Open runs btw, Bo probably dominates this Pan-Am bracket as a 17 year old lol

We've had some great talent from OH come through over the years - with Ty Walz and Bryce around I'm sure relationships are still strong

A few younger guys we've had training in the room at juniors:
Jason Dube(150) and Tommy Wurster(132). Dube is in the top group he could win it and really break out, Wurster was a 16U champ last year so he'll be 17 in the U20 division in a tough bracket but he's game for it.
There are a few others not competing at Fargo in the '28 class I'd be more confident predicting we'll get but I think both of these guys have spent some time training in Blacksburg and in Johnstown, PA with Bo so it's definitely worth keeping an eye on them.

Maybe a 133 that thinks they're better than DC/Garcia? Upper weight maybe? Not many guys out there I'd trade for though.

Last I heard was:
Bo is good to go he's as old as you can be without being impacted. Melvin would be impacted and graduate early only if 5 for 5 passed. This is months back so the rule could've changed slightly which may change how it impacts our guys.

How are our recruits impacted?
Bo, Melvin both turned 19 during senior year of HS before wrestling was over. Any worry there? I read Bo would be all good and Melvin may come early but haven't looked into if that's changed at all

Our program is at a point where we have so much young talent that kids are transferring to tOSU for a better path to the lineup.

He still trained with the team last year, he loses out on an international
tournament and the monthly stipend. A big piece is next year being an Olympic cycle means that the Olympic Team will be decided way earlier than it is this year. I don't think he would've had time for an overseas event which is the big benefit in my personal opinion.

If he won WTT's and wanted to push it back that's one thing but he's a returning medalist with a legitimate reason. He should get every benefit until somebody (hopefully Bo) knocks him off.
The good news is Bo operates under a pretty strict any time any place any weight philosophy so I don't think his descent is affected much and he should be ready to go. Hopefully both are at their best.
