ACC Championships
The ACC Wrestling Championships are reportedly moving to a two-day format beginning in 2027. I confirmed the news with Tony Ramos after Pitt assistant coach Drew Headlee first mentioned the change during an appearance on FloWrestling. In my opinion, this is a welcome change. The one-day format made for an extremely long day, with the championship finals often running late into the evening. A two-day schedule should provide a better experience for the athletes, coaches, and fans. The 2027 ACC Wrestling Championships are scheduled to be held in Pittsburgh.

2 days = more hotel money, more restaurant money and more ticket revenue.
I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier.

Is there a possibility of a bus and travel package to Pitt. for the tour.

My HS county tournament was a 8-team bracket over 2 days and I liked it
Everybody got a match in on Friday night, then the rest of the tourney was held Saturday. Everything was at a reasonable time throughout. Making weight twice kind of sucked, but at that point in the season you're very used to it. I think it really creates a home field advantage as well as the host team has the creature comforts of home. ** Edited by HokieToph at 7/10/2026, 11:42:22 AM

Some good some bad.
It is a long day, but hopefully they won't spread it late into day two or at least start later on day one. I am not sure 7 teams will spread across two days very well. It will be nice to be able to go out and have a nice dinner on day one and maybe medal matches at noon next day finishing earlier. Not sure about better experience for athletes. They will presumably have to make weight two days in a row - that will suck for some and I suspect some teams that have weight mgmt challenges will suffer in their performance. I guess we will have to watch for match schedule.

I liked the one day format as a fan but I get it
It was going late enough that I'd have to stay overnight anyways so may as well have two days of wrestling. I could see it being a little light for two days with only 7 teams though.

1 day show makes more sense to me.
I think they could speed things up some from where they were last year. 8pm finals start is too late, I think they could have moved that earlier. They also could start earlier. Its going to be very light for two days. For the fans sake it would need to start late enough on Saturday and then end earlier on Sunday to make it a worthwhile trip for me.

Yeah, this is stupid imo
It's a 7 man bracket. That should be doable in a day. And there are ways to shorten the day if that's a complaint.

My sentiments as well. If you lose early, you do have several matches in
a short period of time, but that's true for most tournaments. This spreads it out too much, IMO.
