I took it that Wendell had a scoop and the coaching news, although unofficial, broke weeks ago. If it is the coaching news, that popcorn has already been eaten.

Remember, we have 2 positions open... And I'd assume the Green announcement wouldn't happen until June, once he leaves training at Nebraska

All signs have pointed to Green & Walz. Green did already announce his departure from Nebraska but indicated he would stay in Lincoln to train through WTT. Why announce leaving the Nebraska staff this early if he was sticking around town to train? Seems like it is preferable from a recruiting standpoint to avoid any ambiguity on who the coaching staff will be in '27 and beyond as early as possible.

C/O 27 is done and C/O 28 got pushed back for "official recruiting" anyways so there's no rush although you'd always want sooner rather than later. The only other thing I can think of besides coaching would be if we secured a resident athlete post US Open?

Our grandson is in that class. It seems like student athletes will have to cram the whole recruiting process into their already full senior year.

June 15 after sophomore year: Coaches can make calls and send athletes all forms of private electronic correspondence, including text messages, instant messages, direct messages and emails, as well as all recruiting materials. Coaches can also call athletes at this point. August 1 before junior year: Athletes can begin taking unofficial visits and official visits to schools. August 1 before junior year: The NCAA recruiting rules allow coaches to conduct off-campus contact with athletes at their residence or school. Coaches can take seven recruiting opportunities (contacts and evaluations combined) per recruit starting August 1 before junior year. Beginning June 15 before the athlete’s junior year of high school, no more than three of the seven opportunities may be contacts each year. Maybe. You have a race to recruit these kids early because the other schools were doing it. But trying to project a kid wrestling at 126 in high school and he hits campus freshman year at 165 isn't realistic. With such a limited scholarship quantity, schools need to prioritize having kids at the proper weights and filling in the lineup. The shift to 5 for 5 is only going to increase that need as the recruits are not going to be as willing to sit out a year so the coaches can manipulate the lineup year to year. I think it should actually help the kids, let them focus on school and improving over their high school career and leave recruiting until the summer after junior year.

It appears that wrestlers would have to juggle Fall tournaments, Winter high school seasons and taking official visits in their Senior year. Oh, while completing their high school coursework. Losing the Spring of their Junior year in this equation seems like a big problem.

Kids de-commit, kids outgrow projected weight, some schools have "tough conversations" after promising a kid something leaving them without many options late in the process. I don't think it changes anything for the top guys who can train at RTC's and do all that stuff - we already know MJ Staples is coming to Blacksburg. It could hurt the fringe D1 guys who weren't getting recruited early to begin with, now their timeline gets pushed back while top guys make decisions which is where I see problems coming in. The best kids in the class are already indirectly getting recruited and it's before june 15th.
