This bar is rated for this amount of weight, right?

Amazing achievement the old fashioned way- No PEDs
attached is the testing rules- very strict

That’s 495 pounds, if my maths are good

...can't see the cuff(s) or any small plate(s)...
GCHokieof91 GCHokieof91
The dip wads at the VT Weightlifting Club would
not have allowed Kemari’s lift. They would have said that he bounced it off his chest. You may sense that I’m still a little bitter that the VTWC, 36 years ago, ripped me off from getting my 250# bench press t-shirt. I did it successfully 2 times. 1st time they said I did not wait for their signal to start. 2nd time they said one of my feet came off the ground (it did not). 3rd time around, I was petered out, and couldn’t do it.

3 plate club at the age of 42! How much ya bench, boys!!!
GCHokieof91 GCHokieof91
Wow! 315 if my math is good?
I might be able to bench 185 if I’m lucky, at age 57

Yeah, it was sort of a final hurrah. Don't touch barbells any more.
Dumbbells for life. Lift smarter not harder. Work out today so you can work out tomorrow. I've heard too many stories of people tearing a pec on a mere 135 to 200 pounds. My warm up is loooooong to try to prevent injuries.

Do you remember the famous move to the mall? That was such a surprise to VT.
GCHokieof91 GCHokieof91
That may have coincided with the university
being unhappy with the VTWC because it was charging fees/dues to work out. IIRC, the university felt that was unfair, so they offered a weightlifting place that was free of charge to all students.

...dang... harsh.

Maybe. I do have 1 good memory of
working out at the VTWC. I got to work out with a young walk-on (I think) VT TE named John Burke when he was a freshman. He had a great Tech career and I think played in the NFL.

my lifting partner for years was: Rb1a, Eddie Hunter...
Still to this very day... funniest MF'er, evar!!! Coulda been a stand-up comedian. (Maybe shoulda been)... His hijinks in the Foxridge weight-room were the stuff of legend. He'd show up impersonating Dexter Manley, with 54 (his digits backwards); or 27 for Dex'. We'd be falling down with laughter, over-n-over-n-over... hilarious. May St.Edward bless my boy, b.street

That’s awesome!

Lol, I said the same thing to Will yesterday. Too bouncy for my taste.

I have to ask if he truly ā€œbouncedā€ it with little control down
Wouldn’t that much weight break a rib? I think that much weight has to have a little natural ā€œbounceā€ and JF spotting cannot be holding much if any of that weight from the positioning he’s in. Yeah he’s moving it off the rack but…Copeland has to control the weight somewhat off the bar and down. Still ridiculously impressive ** Edited by hokiepro at 7/24/2026, 1:28:58 PM
