Wow! 315 if my math is good?

I might be able to bench 185 if I’m lucky, at age 57

That may have coincided with the university

being unhappy with the VTWC because it was charging fees/dues to work out. IIRC, the university felt that was unfair, so they offered a weightlifting place that was free of charge to all students.

Maybe. I do have 1 good memory of

working out at the VTWC. I got to work out with a young walk-on (I think) VT TE named John Burke when he was a freshman. He had a great Tech career and I think played in the NFL.

The dip wads at the VT Weightlifting Club would

not have allowed Kemari’s lift. They would have said that he bounced it off his chest. You may sense that I’m still a little bitter that the VTWC, 36 years ago, ripped me off from getting my 250# bench press t-shirt. I did it successfully 2 times. 1st time they said I did not wait for their signal to start. 2nd time they said one of my feet came off the ground (it did not). 3rd time around, I was petered out, and couldn’t do it.

“Just cost his team a final 8 appearance”

is not entirely accurate. But, that is the worst goalkeeping I have ever seen.

Does anyone know if we are trying to recruit

Porter Gobble? He is currently at Walters State and is pitching well in the Appalachian League right now. He played youth travel ball and 2 years of HS with Evan Hankins. Would love to see him at Tech.

You said yourself in your message,

“beat weaker teams.” If that’s equivalent to saying “win the games you are supposed to,” then sign me up. We have not been able to do that for the last several years.

I shot a 48-42 at Crockett’s Ridge in Kingsport TN

yesterday. 48 is normal for me but the 42 is better than I normally do. I have learned the golf lesson that nobody really cares what you score in golf. Just go play and have fun.

He signed my napkin at Arnold’s after the

1995 Miami game. I was wearing a Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt highlighting their SB victory over the Bills. I forgot I was wearing that. But he was very nice and asked me if I enjoyed the Tech game. Never said a word about what I was wearing.

I get the many reasons why most fans wanted

Scottie to win, but I felt bad for Clarke for having to put up with that crap.

I can remember going to a VT-UVA match

between Cassell and Lane. I swear I saw Gio Reyna’s dad, Claudio, and Jeff Agoos, spitting on our players. Course, I think we returned the favor. ** Edited by GCHokieof91 at 6/19/2026, 5:43:29 PM

Any of you golfers out there watching the

US Open on Peacock? What’s your impression of Peacock’s coverage? I think it’s horrible.

Regarding Fox’s TV coverage, am I the only one

who is disgusted by the repetitive celebrity sightings and callouts? Are we watching a soccer game or Entertainment Tonight? It’s like, “I went on a celebrity tour and a soccer game broke out.”

This is a good pickup.

He was not a 4 year starter at the Miller School, as he played his Freshman and Sophomore years at John Battle HS. My son played against him those years. He has a high ceiling IMO. I actually played against his father in the old Southwest District back in 1986.

All but guarantees no future enforcement

on betting by college athletes. It only gets worse from here.

I’m not saying we need another pitcher,

and I’m not saying this player will/would enter the portal, but if both turn out to be true, we should give ETSU’s Eden Muncy a look. She had a tremendous Sophomore season, and threw a no hitter in the SOCON tourney. She also went to the same HS (Rye Cove) as one of our football recruits, OL Ethan Lawson.

Dana Palmer was the RB’s name I believe.

My sister was in the band, and they actually tried to do their visitor show, but their instruments froze up.

Not VT related, but coldest game I ever attended

was the 1987 HS playoff game between Gate City and Radford. Radford won 3-2. GC’s punter had a 67 yard punt and a 2 yard punt in the same game.

Respectfully, anybody complaining about VT’s bracket/seed

needs to quit complaining. It’s all settled on the diamond. I can’t remember very many times we have qualified. Sit back and enjoy the fact we are in!

Agree to an extent. But it takes 2 to tango,

And TT was tango’ing in the classless mire step for step. Do you think TT would have shook hands if Florida would have won? We will never know, but there’s a decent chance they would not.

I din’t realize Jason Williams (NBA’s white chocolate)

is Mia Williams’s father. Looks like he was talking tremendous smack after that HR. I could see this getting of hand behaviorally (players, coaches, and fans) quite easily if they don’t get a hold on it.

Not saying it wasn’t intentional each time,

but Williams is practically right over the plate. The margin of error is very slight. But yeah, message sent.
