Smart said SEC could leave the NCAA if they dont get their way

IF they do, easy, but impacts are the remaining members freeze out all scheduling at all for not only football basketball, and all sports (including baseball softball, track) etc.

I like the narrative however

Interesting comment (we heard this throughout VT recruits), They want to commit before spaces get full and they wont be able to work with Franklin and the special things happening at Tech. That's exciting.

THe difference is the subs are starters on other teams

The subs will play with just as an abandonment as the 1st team, and they want to score and dominate just like the second team and they have the skills to do it. remember the mantra, VT wants not only a first team starters, totally reliable and the 2nd string to be just as good and each member as the opportunity to bump the starters and the 3rd's are the development. If you are that good, high scores will follw and you dont want your team to coast

A couple of things

1. There is an scheduling agreement with ND. its not exact 5 a year, but can collaborately be 4 one year and 6 another year. 2. Like Clemson agreement, these scheduling agreements are independent of the ACC allocated games. Big picture. ND might have years where the acc games are not power games for national names. Clemson assures it. Also ND and Stanford has a rivalry, and with the ND and USC game cancelled, ND wants to have a sustained prescence in the West coast. Remember, its always about Notre Dame. However, with the ACC success initiative, the conference allocates these games, and they going to allocate the ND games to the ones who can guarantee the best ratings on a natoinal platform. Therefore might be unlikely the ACC going to promote a home and home with Wake.... or NC State. For brands I bet ACC pushes emphasis on continued UNC (empty brand), FSU, Miami clemson, GT (atlanta market), SMU for Dallas market, UVA and VT (maybe). more minor for Pitt Cuse, BC Louisville Cal or Duke). This is another reason why VT is raising investment and focus on athletics/ football. Their goal is to be the "branded' program that requires to be in the portfolio with Clemson, FSU, Miami that requires to be on the media national stage for a game with ND.

Thank you for writing this

For many athletic fans they do not see the linkage with the "university".. But VT university was not alligned with athletics program and saw it as a separate entity. THis goes back from 1950's. From the university, as long as Athletics was in the black and no drama, they dont need to worry about it.. and the university just did university things. THis is what is called alignment. You can guarantee that it will be allignment in the foture and contiinued or effects on both direct and indirect funding for athletics. My gut is the BOV is going to 1) get the new AD on board, along with new fund raising manager for the HOkie Club and approve the reorganization of VT athletics with goverance and oversight. IT will be a 'NFL like' business operations with many new professionals who know how to manage a power 2 program, Also, during this time, if any residual executives in Burress Hall, who have had been putting in roadblocks on this, might determine to look at different opportunities. (my sense is the VP for Operations, and the CFO. So when the new president comes in, he wiill NOT have any input governance and funding and process for ahtletics, but rather His/Her job is to ensure alignment and intent of the BOV. Which is a key VT hiring criteria.

I agree. says alot of folks

Total lack of confidence in life, and the skill sets they gained at VT. very sad... Its the inferiority complex of these people, I wonder how their professional lives are going. Funny VT is just as tough to get into as UVA and it dwarfs any other State school (I dont treat LIberty as a public school).

I always remember LONG TIME AGO Ala did this to opponetns like VT

They were soooo deep in players, that when the backups came in, they wanted to impressed and sometimes played even harder. The opponents was just trying to stay close with their starters (without subs). It was brutal

Not all politics

This is a ceo hire not some yahoo hire but a leader to a billion dollar enterprise plus 2 billion in endowment's and 35000 student body. From the executive search team they advised 6-10 months. That is not politics but a deliberate hire then Ad and vt hokie club director will be done first . Mid to late summer. Same executive hiring firm. Bov wants new ad fund raiser and staff and drastic reorg implemented in place so the new presidemt just follows the system and no late change by new guy

here's the list

Natalie Gonzalez Honnen (Chairperson) – Clemson UniversityJane Wagner – Northwestern UniversityTara Brooks – University of Tennessee, KnoxvilleJesse Martin – Oklahoma State UniversityKevin Saal – Wichita State UniversityJessica Leger – University of Louisiana at LafayetteGina Stoll – Western Kentucky UniversityHolly Van Vlymen – South Dakota State UniversityTiffany Edlin – Long Beach State UniversityLori Perez – Sacramento State A rep from clemson and tennessee ..

Interesting the the head of the section committee was from Clemson

The Associate AD for Clemson was the chair, and she is the one who threw so much shade against VT program and 'remoteness'... she is from clemson. really???/ Sounds like clemson leadership a little rougue as well.

Remember anything from a psu site is diatribe.they hate VT

All creating a fake narrative., these are the same folks who champion a coach that protected sexual predator., need I say more on their character.

liked they made up rules on hotels for Softball

That rule for docking teams, were not in the criteria for this year and all of a sudden it is ? Himm looks like someone dont want VT and taking an SEC slot.

FIrst you have to know the SOURCE PSU

They have history to trash VT REMEMBER old man Paterno charged frank for recruiting violations for Signing Kevin Jones. They are enamered to an ancient coach, who turned the other cheek when there was sexual abuse to his players on his program and many fans feel it was just a set up and not true. These are the fans who chased away O'Brian who was charged start the program again, and he was getting their but couldnt take the fanbase ilk that it wasnt Joe' way, then even Franklin came in late in the the hiring, and fans were lukewarm but he did wonderful and built the program again, and those same fans kept needling him and got an AD who was a Peterson disciple as well. Well.. well. They deserve what they deserve But VT fans, just face it, we are not going to be liked by these schools, because VT is crashing their cocktail party again.

I have heard there are major 4 star players (silent commitments)

Ready to annouce even before Whitehead. This is truly transformational for VT.

it was a hire of emotion

Sometimes Jim Weaver, and current AD PSU Pat Kraft very similar. Jim wanted control of the basketball program, (he couldnt get that for football) and when Seth refused to attend a staff meeting while he was hosting a recruit. Boom. Jim Fires him.. on the spot. Jim actually did good for VT, established structure and management but he micro managed, Whit was the opposiite Can we get someone in the middle

VT never has had this much national recruiting effort

Recruiting against the power 2, and not sniffing but actually winning the battles and its being noticed nationally. WIth that buzz, more high ranked want to play with other high ranked players. THe big official visits weekends in end of May and June I expect will be HUGE...... I still tentative on Bourgue and whitehead, but its HUGE we are DEFININTELY in the discussions solid, and making just a good augument than the Ohio States, SEC schools and PSU. Nice to have this expertise for once.

It looks worse than it is

Its more maintenance however, I hear yah. Im sure there is ALOT of facilities issues with the look feel and smell of the football infrastucture. 1) get the narrative and brand perception changed. 2) get the team development infrastructure (facilities, more staff, data analytic capabilities) 3) phase 1 of Lane is just the LED, scoreboard, things working. Also Franklin mentioned how bad the VT locker room in Lane is... Also, while we think premium seating opportunities are good, they need huge updates from furnishings, new video capabilities, and floor and wall treatments. When you compete for the preumium market you have to deliver premium service.

It all takes time

WIn the season, build hte infrastructure (which they are doing now0 Indoor practice field (AC/Heating0 and related inprovements Merriman renovation more staffing for support. MOre staffing for funding and athoetic development (update the expediency of VT operations (expediiated, quick decisions and then not reversals); expedient facilities and construction staff (fast) not deliberation. succesful responsive financial systems of university that supports athletic dept not deliberate and slow. (Basically action, not too much deliberation)

All these OV's are staged not a one time

These guys have been recruited/ nutured by this staff some times 3-4 years; many have been on Unofficial visits many times and VT staff seen them many many times and contacted them many many times. WHen it gets to the OV, its not just the visit but the synergy with the other TOP guys and all hearing the energy message and hopefully convinced this is a unique opportunity and they can get to the NFL and be postured the best for success. At this time, we all are cynical its all about the money. My take the money is the constant for the business and the staff knows what these guys are being offered, and frankly if you are discussing 6 figures what's a 10k one way or over for the guys. VT is competitive in the NIL area for most of these guys, so its program, do you look BIG TIME, do you feel BIG TIME, do you act BIG TIME. Thats it.

Its more than just Va Tech

Fontel Mines went to hermitage high school same time frame as Duane Brown. It was a three amigos, close friends. Mines graduated from hermitage in 2003 to UVA, then he encoraged his amigos to follow him to UVA. Jeffrey Fitzgerald went to UVA and Duane Brown to VT. The guys and their families remain very close. This should help.

My goodness im sorry

I could identify so many more exciting things to do in cville than quiet game at scott

also they run the NFL channel now, and NFL is a minority owner of Disney

No one is being disconnected.. but NFL will ALWAYS push for more rights, increased revenue. That's business... same for the conferences.. Some are better than others.

agree, excellent job,

shame folks like BIG DAWG SPORTS is such a constant whiner that this only happened duet to some peception of unsavory actions that VT did. He retorts the good ole days where VT got VT guys and UVA got UVA guys //

Compare recruiting prowness Franklin vs Elliot (UVA)

Franklin and his team WELL recognized leaders in recruiting, especilally DMV/PA. UVA Elliot well... it's Mr. jeffferson's univeristy

Different perspective

PSU can have their perspective from a coach from Iowa St, Ill take Franklin and his sustained success.

The key point, is different skills in recruiting

Many years, VT recruiting mojo was VT was in the guys early and then when an SEC Big 10 school or Clemson or FSU, VT would fade away.... NOT NOW. We are recruiting and competing with these programs and winning the augument. Amazing when you get the right staff, who is epxerience recrutiing.

all you are seeing is the back,

Sounds like more lack of respect in the university Within last 10 years VT transitioned into a top 50 natoinal research university with over 35,000. They can do it in athletics/football. Hiring the top best athletic personnel, top fund raisers, entrerprenuers not folks longing for the good old days. VT athlietc budger is NOW over 200 million, and is growing, to 230 million. That puts us on FSU clemson level.

No idea, but I do think these are parallel hirings

the BOV been working on this, and its parallel hiring. Also I do think the athletic dept reorg plan is already drafted. also they know how to restaff Hokie club and fund raising and are working it as well. Expect a very interesting JUNE BOV. One thing; some TSL or locals, are getting unofficial comments from some of the internal long term worker bees in jamison, and dont like the changes and/or new expectations for performance and dropping rumors to 'friends'... Im sure many of these folks wont have a future. Last, the new BOV members are all Hokies and know the unversity well and know what to do. 2 have been on the board before and advocates for athletics. The architect, she been active in athletics and have designed many of the university new buildings, and Mr. Ramos, graduated and worked at VT, admissions, student rep to previsious board. Im not woried about continuity.

you DONT ease up on the pedal

IF it pauses, gives opportunities to estabished sustained poower 2 athletics infrastructure and constant competitive playoff elligible program.

Its not the untapped donors but the terrible expertise in fund raising

For 5-8 years, there has been absolutely NO expertise in fund raising within the atheltic dept. The fund raising team was EXTREMELY understaffed, under paid and frankly folks were not trained in professional fund raising. WHen you approach a potential investor who you want to get them to help, you dont hire a college intern and ask for 25,00 and then be able to speak sincinctly what their dollars will door by action. Other schools of similar background will have 20-30 folks dedicated full time to this effort. Well at VT........ BOV is working this now, with agressive recruiting and willing to pay for the expertise.

That is why VT is ramping up immediately with funding

From BOV urgency, to 1 ramp up budget to 220-250 milliion athetlic budget 2.reorganization of football with immediate goal 1-2 years, National playoff competition every year (narrative not goal is within ACC but national) 3. complete reorganization and immediate business acumen into the athletic dept. BOV goal . VT will be a Power 2 player wihen the big divide happens, not IF. With that hire national experts to operate athletics, leading expert in fund raising/reorg of hokie club, and leading coaching staff (HAVE done). and accountability Just being an alumni or experience living in SWVA will not be the prime factor but demonstrated experience in the 2026 sports business, and top associates in the business (not like the tradition of hiring everyone from the john belien family

Many folks dont have contracts, for athletic jobs its all contract based

If you dont, simply you dont get any qualifed professionals. Welcome to POWER 4 athletics VT signed a contract and he;'s not being fired for criminal actions? so either pay off his contract or let him ride into the sunset.

Thanks for the info questions?

Criteria for the AD 1. Allignment with Franklin???? 2. Are they looking for a transformational AD, like Franklin was for footbal 3. Are they focused more on business accumen in 2026 or more traditional like Whit? 4. I hope experience in power 2 athletics. (rights, NIL, fund raising,) I throw out 2 names. LSU Assoicate AD, and AD Baylor... AD bois Im out, will be silent until the next rock is dropped..

Do me a favor and dont respond

You one hateful nasty person and cant say how bitter..

Can we just enjoy the weekend

Dont worry about PROGRAM HAS TO X, SHOW Y, DEMONSTRATE Z; We got a national top notch coach that is lieading huge transformation. BOV got the athletic dept transition, and working it and frankly if this a litmus test, on fans supporting or not, maybe they can transition away as well. VT football machine is running like a power 2 program, more improvements needed, but no back room, unprofessional football operation. Enjoy a wonderful day in the mountains, tailgating with frriends and families, reflect the memorial, cheer the walk, and walk into Lane, with so many other friends and acquaints and enjoy some football with no pressure. No better time, to enjoy

The expectation for VT NOW with BOV is to be competitive Power 2 top 10

We are investing NOW, and will sustain it to be consistent. Quote: to be the top, you have to look the top in everything. The cynics of VT from the past, will fade in as VT national brand grows. put on your seat belts.

Like other sports the type of coach is changed

HIring just a coach, who coaches up players, and thats it really dont work now. Coaches have to be CEO for their program, have a huge player development team, that recruit both the portal inventory (before they annouce) and recruits, be able to value their skills, manage a nil and portal program, as well as solicit investors/donors who are willing to invest and see a return on their investment, while coach a great team that competes with the best, and push a program that solicits an amazing fan attendance and interest.

Did u hear vt immediate goal

Within 3 years vt football intends to assure vt competes to be in college playoff consistency. P2 level above just competing in the acc . Win

VT givers, have not been sold on NIL, UVA sees it as spec investing

The VT givers dont want to see the money being used bad. and I dont think the basketball leadership, could sell investment like a financial advisor, but more the spirit of the game.

I dont think so, that era has left

I know 3 UVA graduates, who got their masters at University Chicago and PHD at Penn and are MAJOR portfolio managers for one of the largest banks in America. They work hard, family was of average means, but they understood, the goal and vision, connections and relationships and confidence and drive for success. Thats the kind of competitive drive, (just like athletics) for our other students.
