Timeline for hiring a president.
Glad the realities of a presidential search are being realized. I saw a few of those searches at UF in my 32 years working there. Florida just completed a search that took a year. Don’t underestimate the influence of politics on the search. Don’t expect to be involved or to hear legitimate stories of a list of candidates. To get the best person the search must be done behind closed doors. In spite of whining by faculty, students, and media, you’ll only find out when the one successful candidate is announced. AD search needs to move on.

If the process is more of a behind doors type of hiring, let's hope they pick the right person and in order to pick the right person, those people doing the picking are going to have to be the right people. Lord, I hope they leave politics out of it. I'm so damn sick of politics being involved with seemingly every facet of our lives that it's just overwhelmingly tiresome and old.

Need to put VT first . And the AD , IMHO, is more important for the Athletics. And each sport, not about politics.

IF the next President is viewed as someone who is politically neutral, then neither party should have any issues with that individual. It should also mean they leave VT pretty much alone or at least don't directly target VT for anything specific If Uncle Sam and Aunt Virginia are cutting back on how much research dollars they are willing to spend in the annual budgets, then VT like all the other schools out there will still get caught up in that political game. Unfortunately, that is something VT may not be able to avoid if the government decides to terminate a contract, cooperative agreement, or grant due to an Executive Order, Secretarial Order, or Governor's Order.

but the president sets the tone for the entire university. Some of the academic programs are among the nation's best and we have always done cutting edge research in a lot of areas. I don't just want excellent athletics, I want excellence in all areas.

VT Standards in being able to Get Major Grants on research and get the enrollment to get those research grants. Dr. Sands came to do that and I believe he done a very good job on that. As we all see around Blacksburg. Two different apples here. VT needs a AD that brings full coverage to the Sports of VT. And does the job of getting Funds in their Sports. Clean Up the Hokie Club and get that Dept. up to par ! Donations is the backbone ...Just my 2 cents on the matter.. carry on

This is a ceo hire not some yahoo hire but a leader to a billion dollar enterprise plus 2 billion in endowment's and 35000 student body. From the executive search team they advised 6-10 months. That is not politics but a deliberate hire then
Ad and vt hokie club director will be done first . Mid to late summer. Same executive hiring firm. Bov wants new ad fund raiser and staff and drastic reorg implemented in place so the new presidemt just follows the system and no late change by new guy
