Flip alert, Demarcus Brown, UVa > VT, crystal ball by UVa analyst
Not long ago I made the statement that Demarcus Brown was the only UVa commit I’d consider trying to woo. He’s the #11 recruit in Va (at the time he was inside the top 10 if memory serves), 6’3” 180 lb WR from Roanoke with 3*s at 89 composite. He’s also the highest ranked of UVa’s 2027 class.
Last night Jacquie Franciulli (UVa insider) put in a flip crystal ball from UVa to VT. It would be nice to get some traction with highly ranked athletes in Roanoke given the helicopter recruiting multi fail of 2 years ago.
VT is also receiving OVs from 3 of the UVa recruits that UVa has visiting, Junior Saunders (#6 in Va, 90 comp and already crystal balled to VT), Q’Mari Hudson (#9, in Va 89 comp) and Chanin Harris (#13 in Va and 88 comp).
Of course, those guys might go out of state, BIG or SEC. And two of them are OTs which puts them in contention with Dominic Black who’s an official visit and highly rated OT as well (90 comp and #7 in Ohio). Might not be enough slots for all 3 OTs at VT. The third is a WR and it seems to me (IMO) we have a good WR room. Nice problems for VT to have.
This has the makings of a program on fire (VT with 90 OVs upcoming) and a dumpster on fire (UVa has 14 OVs upcoming of which 3 recruits are committed to PSU and Vandy).
Need some popcorn.

They try to say that the portal is their strategy, but I think it ended up that way because they are bad at recruiting. It's not like they aren't trying at all, kids are just choosing to go elsewhere. On Brown, it would be cool to steal him because I believe he is their highest rated recruit.

They did a great job of evaluating talent and spending wisely. Most importantly they brought in an experienced QB that performed well at a reasonable price. He was a major difference in them being .500 and winning 11 games. They did not come close to replacing him with Pribula and Holstein. Pribula is closer to Drones than Morris. They are going to have to win the portal every year, and that's just no sustainable nor is consistent success with a mercenary roster.

You can do it with BB teams, since you only need a handful of players, but a program the size of a football team requires too many guys who may or may not mesh with each other.
Football teams need a solid core and just use the portal to plug holes, not build an entire team.

For years they've shown their tendency to fold like a cheap suit when they get "hit in the mouth." I consider last season an "outlier" until they can sustain that level of play. Heck, they lost to VT in Miami under the Pry regime until a corrupt ACC replay official (who was from Miami) gave the game to Miami.

won last year doesn't mean that we have to forget the last 25 years of beating them senseless. VT will continue to beat the crap out of hoos every year in football for as long as the game is played
