Posting History (104)

JMU 20 pt wins vs low ranked ACC (BC) and B10 (Wisc) BYU competitive

until the 4thQ today vs Vandy makes losses look a little better. ** Edited by 133919Hokie at 11/29/2025, 5:10:28 PM

First game for me today because of YTTV spat with Disney

Noted Swanson did not play/has played minimally. Had 8 pt avg for Purdue. Injured vs style doesn't fit?

At halftime they ran a video entitled "VT Gobblers"

where they showed clips of VT fans eating in the stands today. Real classy.

Coach Duffy was dealt a very weak hand with little time to rebuild

the team from the portal in 2024. She has an excellent staff that complements her skill set and appears competitive with an engaging personality. She should do well. It would appear that Poppie (who had time) did a total rebuild in the portal to get to fairly competitive status at Clemson in 2024 for the current season. Will Duffy get enough VT and NIL $$$ and Whit support to do the same for VT?

I'm trying to limit my expectations for this year-am I right Rev?

Kenny had a two or three week head start to possibly condition his current transferring players and recruits to his move- at the very least to develop a strategy to do so. We believe that a large amount of NIL was likely promised to him. How much did the powers that be promise coach Duffy who had to make a quick and likely unanticipated move to a completely new cultural environment? Coach Duffy is young, attractive, and articulate and will likely be able to find her way to getting the NIL money tree more active but likely not this year. I don't see 100 $20k or 10 $200k donors at the ready to pull in some of the high level talent that people are wishing for on the big name players to give us instant success. The ACC is going to be loaded next year and Stanford has been added. I'm going to try to be happy with a mid upper ACC finish and an occasional upset. Kenny had a long and tortuous path at VT get to the past 2 years arguably in great part because of Liz whose presence made recruiting a lot more attractive. There were several roaring non-conference starts followed by ACC season and late game collapses in the process. We need to give our new coach time to get things where she wants them.

If you are that old (like I am) you remember that realistic expectations

are important. When we were in school VT was in the Southern Conference and our biggest rivals were WVU (and to a lesser extent VMI who infrequently beat us). I still enjoyed college sports then even though the stakes were lower when we celebrated getting into the Liberty Bowl.

I went back in on another machine and found tickets for both rounds

Tickets were in the corner. Color Me ticked off that there was a AD snafu to start off with at noon.

Tickets sold out?

Every time I tried to pick a seat at 12N it said already taken. Now gives no option for seats.

Definitely and disgustingly biased but rightly questioned the

total reliance of our offense on the Liz- Georgia axis and the offensive capabilities of the other 3.

Liz has success written all over her.

She has intellect, self- discipline, and personality. All of us are upset over her injury but in the long run it will matter little. In fact if she were still planning on medical school as was said a year ago as a retired physician with a physician daughter that entered medical school >30 my advice to her would be use this injury to reconsider basketball and enter med school (no doubt she is qualified) especially if she wants children.

Summiel has blended her skills with Liz better.

She shoots the 3/ midrange and has great footwork enabling rebounding and garbage baskets. But you can't coach length and Strack has equally good footwork- blocks out beautifully already and the height enables the blocked shots/ rebounds. I don't think the full game UNC video is out but it was my sense that when Liz was doubled that Strack was either not seen open by being left alone or was was a back door cut away from either losing a sagging defender and getting open for an easy basket or getting a guard open if the defender covered. More playing time will improve her on offense.

Don't forget more height on the way

Myah Hazelton 6'4" Lexi Blue 6'2" Clara Silva 6'7" (I think playing some level of pro ball- see middle of link)

It's hard not to play Strack more and more.

Her upside obviously exceeds both Olivia and Rose. Her D was great today. I wish Kitley would/ could see that Clara was often an easy target open at the basket when Liz was doubled. A little more hi lo would have made life easier for our guards.

Venue and TV impressions: UVA vs Tulane

The gym is Rec league/ small HS level with tiny stands, confusing lines on court, play currently in a stoppage because of slippery conditions- one player hurt so far from a slip. The venue encourages sloppy play. Also Kenny's favorite referee is present. Camera work lousy.

From 247 they lost to Richmond

Don't know anything other than what was on there. One poster said Kenny only cares about 1st Q then experiments with lineups with younger players. Another said Kitley scored 31 pts and got no help. Men apparently beat Richmond by 18pts.
