Much farther south of it. Canβt remember the name of it without googling.

There is a precedent for that
Duke University was originally called Trinity College until some wealthy cigarette magnate gave them a large donation to name the school after his family.

I saw the original Walking Tall a few years ago
I was a bit shocked at how unexpectedly violent it was. In particular a scene with a woman getting shot in the eye stood out.

And statistically about what, 40 of them wonβt come back?
The closest Iβd ever want to get to Everest is base camp.

I had heard Paul was the main one responsible
He didnβt like that Pete was the one who seemed to get the most female attention, and Paul wanted to be the one that was the βheartthrobβ of the group.

Federal govt has no power to control state tax
Mississippi can tax or not tax what they choose. Their income tax rate is what, maybe 5%. Is exempting 5% going to cause more and better athletes to come to Ole Miss or Miss State, and thus inject more money into the stateβs economy when those teams win more? I suppose thatβs the logic.

If for argumentβs sake, Miami is βbackβ fo the foreseeable future
With all of the resources now available to college football teams, might the upper crust of South Florida, as well as the average football fan, turn to supporting the Canes instead of the usually abysmal Dolphins? The Canes could become the de facto pro team for Miami, while the Dolphins might consider moving to another city.

LOL, the SEC did as bad as it possibly could in the playoffs.
Their only win against another conference was Tulane.

Maybe this has been answered
But why is Miami-Ole Miss being played in Arizona and Indiana-Oregon being played in Atlanta? Seems like those locations should be reversed to maximize attendance.

I think 14 with the top two conference champs getting byes
Would have been perfect to begin with. 4 byes for conference champs was too many. Last year you ended up with Boise and ASU with byes ahead of much better teams. And if they hadnβt gotten rid of the conference champ requirement, you would have had Tulane with a bye this year. Still, I think winning a conference title has to count for something, which is why it kind of rankles me that Ohio State is seeded ahead of Georgia with the same record.

#23 in population
So there are 10 states with smaller populations than Virginia that have major sports teams, which is outrageous.

Trivia: name the 2 largest US states by population
that do not host a major league sports team (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB).

Another thing to think about - if they kept the same rules for the playoffs
that were in place last year, Tulane actually would have a BYE and be the #4 seed. Ohio State would be #5.

Iβm kind of pissed at all the criticism of the automatic qualifiers
You know, the talking heads and others with soapboxes saying the real problem is that Tulane and JMU are in the playoffs. The playoffs have been not just about determining a true champion, but also making sure everyone has access. Thatβs why the basketball tournament doesnβt just pick who it thinks the best 72 teams in the country are. Even the NFL follows a similar model, which is why a 6-10 Seahawks team that won its division not only made the playoffs, but also got to host a game (which it actually won by the way).

Right. That would be like letting a 7-9 team into the NFL playoffs
Just because they happened to win their weak division.

Maybe ND should be mad at Coach Narduzzi
He said Pitt didnβt care about the ND game because it wasnβt an ACC game, and the score reflected that. But then they also got blown out against Miami - a game in which they had every motivation to win. Think maybe the playoff committee might have taken this into account?

Bad news for bowls indeed if an 8-4 Iowa State is opting out
Their fans are among the best traveling in the Big-12.

Misplaced Anger
Seems like Notre Dame should be more angry at the SEC and the CFP committee. Alabama should have been the one left out. I donβt buy the argument that they were afraid the SEC might cancel their championship game. There have already been some instances where the loser of that game was hurt in the polls. Auburn in 2017 comes to mind. They beat both of the teams that played in the national championship game during the regular season and still got left out of the playoffs. Anyway, I digress. ND is just being a bully by going after the easy target.

The cherry on top would be UVA losing their bowl game
Keeping them from 11 wins for the first time in school history

Announcers on ABC should be banned from talking about ND vs Miami
When their parent company has a vested financial interest in the ACC getting a playoff spot.

Props to Kennesaw State
An underrated school here in Georgia that has greatly improved its academic profile over the years. They have great engineering and business programs, and a lot of our family friends have had some bright kids go there. And now their football team, who hasnβt been FCS all that long, just won Conference USA and are going to their first ever bowl game.

Some talking heads on the radio were saying the fix is in for the ACC
If UVA beats Duke, the ACC has their playoff team and the playoff committee will feel safe picking Notre Dame for the last at-large spot. But if Duke wins, the committee will pick Miami over ND and say itβs based on head-to-head. Bottom line is that ESPN has too much of a vested interest (such as owning the ACC Network) to see the ACC get left out entirely.

If I were the Big-10, the two teams I would be looking at
Would probably be Miami and Virginia. They are AAU schools for one. And those two could be put in a 5-team pod along with Maryland, Penn State, and Rutgers. Culturally thatβs definitely a better fit for Miami, which Iβve always viewed as a Northeastern school anyway.
Football Board

Oh, and suck it Miami
Whine about that ND win all you want, youβre not getting into the playoffs as an at-large. Not with 6 SEC teams with 10 or more wins, 10-win ND, and 11-win BYU in the mix.

It will of course, be hilarious if UVA loses to Duke
Not just because of the Hoos losing, but because of the ACC shooting themselves in the foot with their stupid tiebreakers* and eliminating themselves from the playoffs.
* The AAC uses the CFP rankings as the 2nd tiebreaker after head-to-head, which if the ACC used would put Miami/UVA in the CG.
Football Board

I thought it was UVA vs Miami
The tiebreaker they showed had UNC needing to beat NC State for Duke to make it.

At least the ACC head office wasnβt needed at our game tonight
They were probably on the phone at halftime with the refs at the SMU-Cal game trying to stop a UVA-Duke ACCCG.
