if that holds, and considering that they are trying to seed teams closer to
home...then, either us or the Cardinal moves down to 18, depending on who is 15 and 17 of course. ** Edited by PennHokie at 5/9/2026, 6:21:29 PM

Where are you getting this from
If you aren’t looking here… https://stats.ncaa.org/selection_rankings/nitty_gritties/ then you aren’t looking at “THE” RPI. There are others who have pretty accurately reverse-engineered the algorithm, including d1softball.com, but I have seen close miscalculations at most of them. The benefit to using non-authoritative sites is that you get real time predictions. The downside is that you might be looking at a false report. The NCAA typically only updates once per day, usually by 9 or 10 in the morning. Just make sure you include games through yesterday’s date. If you don’t see yesterday’s date, refresh the page. If you still don’t see yesterday’s date, they haven’t published the updated calculation yet ** Edited by Mike_Louko at 5/9/2026, 8:47:37 PM

Do we still have a better record than No. 1?

Considering RPI is our worst metric, we should be in. If they truly
consider other metrics and ignore ESPN, then we should be safely in with a 17 RPI and a 46-10 record, with only 13 home games.

If its like basketball, the criteria can and will change, the same year.

Agreed. if it is true that KPI and DSR will also be used, then it can't
be just about RPI or SOS. The head of the selection committee will talk Sunday night on a zoom call. It will be interesting to get an answer when criteria for seeding vT is brought up.

I think we pass the eye test. Would that matter?

We know two things: they will cherry-pick whatever stat they need to
cherry-pick to justify whatever they decide and Tech will not be hosting.

I would consider the “eye test” a cherry-picked metric. And a very
subjective one.

Yep….as usual.
Hope we are wrong about VT not hosting, but it is what it is.
