Posting History (116)

Pete would probably have to buy those out of pocket.

Because the VTAD doesn't have a PO category for ribbons or some nonsense.

A bucket to take voluntary admission is beyond VTAD's reach.

I fear that painting a pink ribbon on the turf is tantamount to colonizing Mars for them. Especially with the biggest event in Lane Stadium history being next week. ** Edited by The_Phew at 5/2/2025, 2:36:26 PM

Someone needs to teach this team how we do it in Hokie land.

On the verge of staking our claim nationally, highly-ranked but beatable team coming into our place; I've seen this play too many times in our football/basketball history, and the outcome is almost always a heartbreaking loss. No one told this team that's how Hokies do it, thank goodness!

Cburg single family home neighborhoods have gotten pretty insane

My neighborhood was mostly 'upper blue collar' when we moved in like 18 yrs ago, i.e. nurses/contractors/cops/etc. Our newest neighbors showed up with like $180k just in their two cars, after paying like $650k or some nonsense for the house. I haven't talked to them yet, but probably professor(s) based on stereotyping (Asian, 40ish). ** Edited by The_Phew at 11/27/2024, 9:59:50 AM

I hope she takes us to a Final 4

If that results in her getting poached, so be it. But that's the GOOD outcome. I'd rather have every VT coach get poached than have to fire all of them.

Sounds about right.

We couldn't prevent dribble penetration at all against UNC-W, which wasn't a problem in that game because their players were neither tall nor particularly adept at finishing. But larger/more talented teams are going to eat us alive when driving.

Anyone catch the creep shot on the Jumbotron?

Right up some lady's skirt, zoomed way the hell in. That got a pretty big reaction from the crowd!

That PG for Baylor looked about 100 pounds soaking wet

And we could not stop her from driving at will (heck, we couldn't even intentionally foul her when needed).

The social media audience for 'hawt influencers' is predominantly female.

Dudes can get nekkid pictures of beautiful women in milliseconds, so why would they waste time pervin' through 'influencers' on Instagram trying to find bikini pics? Other young women want to follow more successful+attractive young women on social media so they can feel terrible about themselves, which they can only recover from by posting cute duckface selfies begging for less-attractive young women to respond to with fire emojis, and the cycle continues until some 0/10s feel terrible about seeing 1/10s looking barely OK (thanks to filters) and then go eat some cake.

And she was told she could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume...

...from 9-11 AM, and told Bill that if Sandra is going to listen to her headphones while she's filing then she should be able to listen to the radio while she's collating so I don't see why she should have to turn down the radio because she enjoys listening at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven.

I honestly don't know what 'attacks' or 'sides' you are talking about

My synopsis of recent events is that KB took a good career opportunity while his stock was at an all-time high, wasn't classy on his way out, then VT fans got justifiably butthurt about it but went too far on social media, finally VT seemingly made a great hire to replace him and everyone is hopefully moving on. I don't know what 'side' that puts me on, but I never consider any issue as being black & white.

Did you sign up for TSL just to post about VT WBB?

Maybe there are more of you, but either way, that's a sign the sport has truly arrived.

Conspiracy theory: School don't actually want more OVs in that scenario

Sure, P2 schools surely don't care, but for everyone else, that's just more expense every time they're already trying to scrap together funds for a rebuild because their coach jilted them. Average cost to host a recruit's family for an OV is probably over $5k. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/17/2024, 1:37:02 PM

At this point, I hope KB does release a belated statement:

"I want to say 'Thank You' to Hokie Nation for validating my decision to take my current position at the University of Kentucky. Ya'll have a serious inferiority complex, and collective abandonment issues that could consume the attention of an army of psychiatrists for decades. As soon as I realized this, I worked to build a Final Four team that I could leverage into an SEC job at the first opportunity, and my only regret is that I didn't hold out for the UTenn job. Bye Felicia!"

In this situation, I expect she'll be accompanied by her family only

KB has seemingly washed his hands of all things VT, and Duffy has much bigger fish to fry right now than go see a player she never coached maybe get drafted.

Let's get in the football 'Super League' then evaluate MBB

MY can take us as far as our MBB NIL resources, which are (rightfully) mostly dedicated to football right now. MY isn't getting fired in the meantime unless his players are getting arrested every weekend, especially while he's still posting winning records.

Lynn Kidd had a 27.6 PER this past season.

That'd be like your wife throwing out her diamond engagement ring 'to declutter'.

Wait until this guy gets a load of SEC fans after a rivalry loss

And his profile pic is the UK logo? I have only one sibling, who I talk to almost every week, and I can't even tell you the name of the firm she's worked at for nearly a decade. If I ever did remember, I ain't changing my profile pic to that company's damn logo. Profile pics are for hideous AI-generated monstrosities, duh. Screams 'coattail rider' to me. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/3/2024, 9:48:40 PM

He did seem to rely on a back-breaking run in like the late 2nd/early 3rd

I don't know enough about bball to understand why his teams were seemingly able to do that so often but not close out the game at the end. Good teams seem to always that have one player than can drive to the rim at will late in the game then make their foul shots (see #11 for Baylor), and he never really had that at VT. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/3/2024, 12:36:41 PM

Thanks. I think MY did as well?

The obvious question is if KB did it when he left JMU. If so, then maybe Hokie fans might have a legitimate gripe.

He was PSU's Bud Foster.

If Bud left for a head coaching gig (which he nearly did a few times), Hokie fans would have sh!t a brick if he didn't do a gushing goodbye message. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/3/2024, 11:25:39 AM

Did Pry post a 'classy' goodbye/thanks to PSU fans when we hired him?

I'm just not sure this is even a common thing, so we might have our panties in a wad about nothing. Re:taking players/recruits, EVERY coach does this in every sport, so I don't think it equates to 'class' in any way. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/3/2024, 11:19:52 AM

I had a feeling that Whit was going with a female coach this time around

He's hired more male coaches for women's sports at VT than is typical, so he probably felt some pressure to balance that out.

Arthur seems like a decent role model, at least.

Until he portals to becoming a Duke softball superfan or something. ** Edited by The_Phew at 4/3/2024, 10:34:18 AM

No one really does onerous buyouts for getting poached.

Since that money effectively comes out of the coach's pocket if/when they get poached, no agent is going to allow that provision unless the coach is 100% certain they want to retire at a particular school.

That quote provides some illumination about the KY opening

"Sometimes when you get players of that caliber, sometimes you have to sacrifice a little bit. You have to sacrifice maybe integrity" If there is one phrase that sums up Kentucky athletics, it's "Sacrifice integrity for wins". Personally, I can't see Kenny being comfortable with that environment, but I do think he'll leverage the offer to get a big raise.

Train the model with Reddit, and 'no snark' would be considered negative.

It's a well-known fact that if you want help on Reddit, don't just politely ask your question, or your query will be ignored. Instead, make a smart-ass post explaining why a wrong answer is 'the way', and posters will line up to correct you with the actual correct answer.

It's hard to characterize sarcasm/snark as 'positive' or 'negative'.

Usually there is a generational divide where posters 'of a certain age' don't understand internet humor and think it's some kind of attack on their worldview. It goes both ways as well; anyone under 50 is going to be puzzled at 'Boomer Facebook' humor like Cathy comic strips or whatever. ** Edited by The_Phew at 3/23/2024, 12:11:04 PM

/shrug, a well-researched/sourced article stands above ideology

WaPo and WSJ both have strong ideological slants among their editorial boards (in opposite directions), but both papers clearly label what is opinion an what is 'news'. Both have had their retraction issues, but you'd be hard-pressed to find more rigorous journalistic standards than those two papers. That said, if the big scandal is that LSU players/coaches are 'f#*&in' and/or fightin', and Kim enabled it!', then yeah, it'll be like water off a duck's back for her.

Securing home court with a top 4 seed is a billion times more important...

...than tricking our first round opponent in NCAAT with a 'surprise' ACC POTY. ** Edited by The_Phew at 3/17/2024, 3:34:44 PM

Yup. If there was even a small chance she could be back for NCAAT, they...

...would have shown a quick practice snippet of her playing or something, just to improve our odds of getting a top-4 seed. But since they haven't, it means she hasn't sniffed a return to the court.
