Does recruiting shutdown apply to portal?
If so we wont hear anything until next week, unless we had offers out last week and waiting to hear back.

Retaining HS players is ideal
But not realistic under current portal model. Maybe if the 5 year proposal gets approved it becomes more realistic again.
Hate to make it about one player, but we owe it to Carleigh to put together a highly competitive team for her final season. We have a good roster now, but definitely need a few more pieces to maintain our momentum. When we got the 2 Tennessee transfers early on, I thought wow, it is on! Then it fizzled.
Recruiting is a funny thing. Players we were in the running for before seemingly didnt give us a look this time around, and on the other end we weren't in Hurst's final 3 last year but now she is on board.
On that note, Tennessee received another commitment today so they have literally built a whole new team from the portal.

I thought we had a shot at Carroll out of HS
But I'm sure a year with bitter brooks has put a negative picture of VT in her head. But wow, if she were to come and play in our scheme the way she played in HS, her NIL would go through the roof (and maybe out of our range in a year). But it would be a fun year!
As for the other 2, I haven't heard of any mutual interest. Then again, we haven't heard much of anything from WBB.

If they were true Freshman and got caught up in the limelight of the portal, then maybe. But these two have been around awhile and know how this works. Dont get me wrong, I wish they hadn't portaled in the first place, but time to say thank you for your time in blacksburg and wish them well on their next stop.

From a fan's point of view, Petersen has been a wonderful teammate and has done what coach has asked of her. I'm assuming CMD would like her in a different (better?) role but the roster is what it is.
As for Wells, I enjoyed her play this year. Obviously everyone tends to get better each year and I have no doubt she will work hard in the off-season.
Wenzel and Baker seem to really enjoy VT. Is that enough for them to stay? Hopefully. I would be more comfortable if we land a good big or two in the portal very early. The longer it drags, the more likely I see one or both leaving. Obviously Baker would enjoy being a true stretch 4 and Wenzel would benefit from a good inside-out game.

If you had a private conversation with CMD, she would probably say she is a little concerned about the roster. Landing Swanson was HUGE, and we all thought that would start the flow coming into VT. She is very smart, in life and basketball, so she sees the types of teams other programs are putting together and wants to be able to compete. We have an incredible group of ladies on the team now (and freshmen coming in), and they will all tell you that there are a few pieces they need. We don't need shaq, but two people who can defend in the paint and rebound is essential. Summiel wasn't THAT tall, and did a great job of this. Of course, having Kitley inside probably helped a little đ

Kentucky men's basketball
Is rumored to have spent millions on next year's team. On the women's side, there is talk of players getting anywhere from 250k to 500k. (Not kentucky, in general). The portal environment now (and the money) is a lot different than just 2 or 3 years ago.

She doesn't "hate" bigs...
But her style of offense requires everyone to move pretty well, and not all bigs do. Which still blows my mind about Hazelton, she seemed to fit her mold perfectly. While I don't think she would be a true 5 in the ACC, even a 4 that can move the way she does is rare. White was a different story. Sounds like she really worked her butt off to play in this system, but being a true 5 just isn't in the cards here. It will be interesting to see how both do at their new schools, I have a feeling they will both be successful.

There was another sister who looked and played like Kayana. I think she transfered out of Radford, but can't recall if she has graduated. I believe there are 4 or 5 girls playing bball from the family, not bad!

My thought...
I would like to know what happened on the Qadence Samuel's visit. We heard the visit didn't go well, which leaves a lot to the imagination! Did she hate Blacksburg??? Did she miss everything during a shootaround? Did a big brawl break out? Did she ask for $5 million, a car, and an unlimited pass to El Rodeo?? Inquiring minds want to know!

CMD goes on X and offer up 2 $750,000/year NIL deals for women bball players who are 6'4" or taller, can run the court with ease, average at least 15/10/5 in D1 and have at least 2 years of eligibility.

Have we offered her? Looks like she had an unofficial visit recently. 6'3 and Looks to play the 2 or 3 spot, maybe a stretch 4. Recently posted 2 videos, one of Kitley, one of herself saying "emulating the best" with a nice turnaround jumper. No idea if she fits in Duffy's scheme. I thought Hazelton would, but that is why Duffy makes the big bucks and I just comment on message boards.

Feel bad for Silva. Even when she was a VT commit, I didn't have a good feeling knowing Strack would be the main focus (for good reason, she is great!). Felt even worse when CKB lured her to UK. He felt he had to make a big splash his first year, and playing unproven players wouldn't be in the cards but wanted to show he could recruit. I hope she finds a landing spot that will utilize her unique skill set. In the right system, she has a chance to flourish.

She would be a Hokie. The majority of the comment on her posts are from Hokies.
I still stand by my earlier prediction of UVa. Perhaps she'll be another piece for them to help grow their WBB program and for their fans to get excited about WBB.
Of course, if she wants to play in front of loud crowds immediately and be coached by some of the best in the country, then Blacksburg is home.

My gut says she is uva bound
Would love to have her in Blacksburg. But if not, I think going to UVa is a good spot. I like to see Virginia schools do well (except when they play us!), and Kitchen will be a great asset for any team. Pulling in great talent from out of state will help both schools in the future as our state will be on the radar of more HS/AAU coaches.
