Posting History (501)

I don’t mind the score colors but agreed on the kit colors

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out who was who in the Switzerland/Qatar match. And I didn’t figure it out because of the colors on the scoreboard, but because of the names of the players.

Of course it’s more intense, because it’s only seven minutes

It’s like pointing out that sprinters run faster than marathoners. If you want to go for most fit, I’ll take water polo.

It seems to me you’ve already made up your mind

But it might not hurt to try to understand the rules a little bit before you make an uninformed critique.

Hokie Mandy McGlynn in goal for the USWNT tonight against Brazil

US down 1-2 at the half. Goals were poor defending, not poor goalkeeping.

There’s no doubt I would always cheer for Tech over any other school

But when I go to an Oregon game, I wear Oregon gear. Just can’t see myself doing that at a Clemson game even if they’re not playing us.

Have any of you guys had a child attend another ACC school?

My daughter goes to Oregon, and because they’re on the other side of the country and we almost never played them in anything, I had no problem supporting them/her. (note: I did root for Tech against them in the NCAAW tournament). My son is strongly considering Clemson. I don’t really have anything against Clemson, but I have a hard time picturing myself wearing Clemson gear. I’ve been told by others that once you start sending a ton of your money to any school, you will get on board. How did others find the experience?

In what way?

Eugene is two hours from Portland

UO isn’t getting big corporate money from businesses in Eugene.

Fair enough

Yep, I watched the whole game, and all of both semifinals. I think USC used up all their energy beating UConn. And UCLA played just about perfectly today.

Do you have some sort of bet on the fouls called in this game?

It’s currently 17 fouls on USC, 14 on UCLA. And UCLA is winning by 30 points. But you’re upset about the fouls not being called on South Carolina?

That’s not a scam, it’s a strategy

We do it all the time, but we always offer the person in the middle seat to switch to a better seat. Not sure how you’re being scammed if it works out better for you.

Nah

It’s a bad loss in the sense that we had a chance to win. But ND is 31 in NET. Their record isn’t great, but they are not a poor team.

Both

Officiating is definitely favoring Notre Dame’s style of play (ie they’re not calling a lot of fouls on ND). But we’ve also made a lot of careless passes.

I don’t know what’s more annoying

The horrible officiating? Or the incredibly insipid commentating?

I couldn’t find it either before the game started

But once it had started, it popped right up in the top of my ESPN app.

Spent a week on St. John over Christmas

If you decide to take the ferry over that way, and need restaurant or beach recommendations, let me know.

This is the real reason schools are getting rid of it

But facts like these are likely to irritate everyone who thrives on complaining about participation trophies.

He didn’t need to be that close to him in the inbound

He needed to maintain position between the SMU player and the basket so he couldn’t advance the ball so easily. That should’ve been a 70-foot shot, not a 50-foot shot.

Me too

Did you go for pasta shapes?

Split it up that way the first year, but then throw in promotion/relegation

Then those lower tier championships would actually mean something. Otherwise, in your proposal, they would feel like the NIT and CBI. I know, it’ll never happen, but it would be perfect for college football.

Second time today I’ve heard UVA referred to as Virginia Tech

Clearly announcers are not used to talking about Virginia and football!

That would be UVA

Duke can play for the championship knowing they won’t have to play again. This is the last game of their season either way.

This is a great point

Why is it OK that a borderline playoff team like BYU or Alabama gets the ability to clinch a spot in the playoff with a win, but there’s no penalty for a loss? I’ve generally been bought into the notion that a team shouldn’t be penalized for losing in their conference championship game, but I’m not so sure.

Agreed

Though in that particular example, Ole Miss and Texas A&M only have one loss, and Oklahoma beat Alabama. But I generally agree with your point. You could make the same argument for BYU. They have two losses, both to a top four team, one of which came in a conference championship game that they were required to play in. Compare them to Miami, who lost to Louisville and SMU, he didn’t qualify for their conference championship (though I think they would have won if they had). I’m not sure what the right answer is. I’ll be very interested to see what the committee decides tomorrow.
