Have any of you guys had a child attend another ACC school?
My daughter goes to Oregon, and because they’re on the other side of the country and we almost never played them in anything, I had no problem supporting them/her. (note: I did root for Tech against them in the NCAAW tournament). My son is strongly considering Clemson. I don’t really have anything against Clemson, but I have a hard time picturing myself wearing Clemson gear. I’ve been told by others that once you start sending a ton of your money to any school, you will get on board. How did others find the experience?

My No. 2 son got his PhD at Notre Dame...
My first two grandchildren were born in South Bend. He went to Alabama undergrad and is now an Assistant Professor at UGA. Looks like he only goes to schools that are regularly near the top of the college football rankings. Alabama won two national championships while he was there - which is an experience no Hokie will ever know.

UNC.
She earned a very nice 4 year academic scholarship which made it easier. I never wore unc gear..she never asked me to so it was ok..I guess. Over half of her academic career was during the pandemic, so I was heart-broken she had to go thru this

I've already told my kids this is my plan. Living in NC and being active
in 4H, I've already accepted the fact they will probably funnel into NC State. I told them I will wear an "NC State Dad" shirt but not a school shirt that has the Dad part missing. Just can't do it.

No reason you have to wear Clemson gear.

None at all. Not unless your kid is on the team.
In that case then yes, you support that team. But you are under no obligation to be a walking billboard for a school that you did not attend. My daughter went to my high school's rival, and both of my kids attend schools other than VT. Our relationships are not harmed one iota by my not jumping whole hog into some ____ Nation that I was not actually a part of myself.

That must be rough.....
UVA is an excellent school, so good for him (and you). But breathing that conceited air in Charlottesville must be hard.

Yes, Pitt. Will support support Pitt in anything but head-to-head
Hey, why shoudn't I support Pitt except head to head. I've got a lot invested. It cost me 10X to send her to Pitt than what it cost me to go to VT!

Not ACC schools, but...
... Son went to William & Mary, and Daughter (VT '21) went to George Mason for grad school. So, I have several GMU and W&M t-shirts and don't mind wearing those around (usually accompanied by a VT hat, though!) But, yeah, if either of them had gone to another ACC school, you sure wouldn't see me wearing a tiger paw, a big U, or crossed swords, for sure.

Yes, multiple kids to other acc schools. Depends on the school - I've
disliked one particular school for many years, no teaching this old dog new tricks. Will root for another but never disliked them, and if they are playing vt then of course that all goes out the window.

3 daughters, they went to JMU, W&M and VT. The JMU daughter was a freshman
When they beat us in 2010 and we were at the game. As soon as the game ended, she told me "you will never hear the end of this." As much as I hated to see us lose to JMU, it was fun watching her enjoy the moment.

Had the exact same experience with my oldest daughter at ODU in 2018 ...
got a nice place to tailgate, ODU fans were very polite before the game when they expected to lose by 20+, and it was a beautiful (but very hot) day in Norfolk. How quickly 3 hours of VT ineptitude can change everyone's attitude. ODU fans weren't nearly as polite as they were a few hours earlier. My daughter has still not let me forget it and unfortunately I got more reminders last September.

My daughter is looking at UVA as part of a program at Longwood.
Would go 2yrs to Longwood and a final year at UVA. Would graduate with a degree from Longwood and Masters from UVA. I told her to go for it. I will still hope VT beats UVA in everything…but I will happily wear UVA Dad gear for my girl.

I've told all 3 of my children go where you fit best...
...and we will support your decision. Even if it was DSU. So far one has graduated VT, second is currently at VT, and the third is not really considering anyone else but VT. So no, I have no idea what you are talking about.

My son is getting his Masters at U of L, but doesn't really have ...
any allegiance to them. He hasn't even been to one sports event there.

You will not wear Clemson gear. As my name states
My father is a staunch Hoo and we used to joke all the time that he would write checks (while I was in school) and only put Virginia and my mom would have to add the Tech to the end for him.

Son at Clemson, daughter at Pitt Grad School (Tech undergrad)
I always cheer for Tech vs. the other schools. Not obnoxiously, but they know where I stand.

There’s no doubt I would always cheer for Tech over any other school
But when I go to an Oregon game, I wear Oregon gear. Just can’t see myself doing that at a Clemson game even if they’re not playing us.
