My No. 1 son is a Navy Flight Officer (O3 w/ 6 yrs) service) and was recently selected for US Navy Test Pilot School. Are there any Test Pilot School grads on here?

My No. 2 son got his PhD at Notre Dame...
My first two grandchildren were born in South Bend. He went to Alabama undergrad and is now an Assistant Professor at UGA. Looks like he only goes to schools that are regularly near the top of the college football rankings. Alabama won two national championships while he was there - which is an experience no Hokie will ever know.

It was just VPI from the VAMC days until 1971, but the "Virginia Tech" was
used commonly alongside VPI for a long time. The Corps has been officially called the "VIRGINIA TECH Corps of Cadets" for a very long time. When the change to VPI&SU was made the university tried to suppress "VPI" branding, yet "VPI" appears on the top of the cadets' hat gromets to this day.

Likely has an appointment in the Virginia Milita
Among other things the Virginia Milita exists to provide a "military" appointment for VMI staff that do not otherwise have active or retired military status. It has also been used at VT - when Colonel Acuff retired from the Army as the Professor of Military Science at VT in 1974, he was appointed the Commandant of Cadets for the VTCC. Some of the powers that be felt that the VTCC should have a general as Commandant, so the state appointed him a a Brigadier General in the Virginia Milita. The insignia on his Army uniform changed from "US" to "VA". Word was that Col/Gen Acuff didn't feel that he needed the appointment and would have been fine remaining a US Army Col (retired), but others felt it was important for the prestige of the University and VTCC.
Col Earl C. Acuff was a very impressive individual - look him up.

Working a well-paying low stress job at 71
After working 40+ years for engineering consultants - lot of stress long hours, etc. I fell into a job with the state DOT - good pay great benefits, low stress, out of the office by 5 every day. I'll keep doing this as long as I can.

They were a good source for furniture - decent stuff.
When my navy son moved to Pensacola and was setting up an apartment, a salesman at a high-end furniture store tipped us off to Big Lots. Got a very decent Lane (same as the VT stadium) couch for a good price.

The student population for Amherst MA must only be Amherst College
UMass (Amherst) has many times that many students. Also in the vicinity are Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke and Smith College.

Seems like these days the terms longshoreman and dockworker are used interchangeably. The term used in the Union's name however is Longshoremen. I remember that when I started in geotechnical engineering/construction that the term and union for pile drivers was "Dockworker" and there was a dockworker's union. In places where there was no Dockworker's Local, those jobs were covered by the Carpenter's Union. I though it strange when I was working in the field installing and testing sheeting and bracing that the tradesman I worked with was a carpenter, but his primary tool was a welding torch. These days it appears that the Carpenters Union has absorbed the traditional dockworkers/pile drivers.

They aren't Dockworkers, they are Longshoremen
Dockworkers are construction workers who build docks and do related work like pile driving. Different union.

Ken Curtis - Known mostly for character Festus on Gunsmoke, but also was
lead singer in the Sons of the Pioneers. Curtis was also with the Tommy Dorsey band in 1941, and succeeded Frank Sinatra as vocalist until Dick Haymes contractually replaced Sinatra in 1942.

Depends how paranoid you are
These days you can take the plate number (assuming it is properly registered) and submit to CarFax and get a report on the car that includes the VIN number. I'm sure that there are other sites out there that can get the owners information from the plate number.

Question about ad blockers for those of you who know
More and more I will go to a web site and be asked to close my ad blockers to be able to read the content. Ithe thing is, as far as I know, I don't have any ad blockers installed. Typically a pop up will come up with a list of adblocker programs or instructions how to close the as blockers - I am never successful in identifying any adblockers on my machine or getting any response from the presented procedure to close them. Anybody understand what is going on with these?
