Son at Clemson, daughter at Pitt Grad School (Tech undergrad)
I always cheer for Tech vs. the other schools. Not obnoxiously, but they know where I stand.

Got some here....
The crowd seemed to me a little smaller than in previous years, but polite. I was on the balcony and the sound wasn't great, so I may have missed a few things. Burnop first interviewed Whit, who was fairly candid about how this past year was disappointing in the big sports. He hopes the new NCAA settlement brings some predictability to the Wild Wild West. Thanked Sands several times for his support. Thought there may be a country concert as a follow on to Metallica someday. Next up was Matt Moore. I really liked him..very enthusiastic about coming to Tech, and his portal transfers (including his WVU haul). Seems like a positive move. Last up was Pry....very enthusiastic (almost too so), seems like this year is do-or-die. Mentioned a couple of portal additions that weren't public as of Monday night. Sees USC game as an indicator of the entire season. Thinks the leadership on team is best he's had, and that "team-first" mentality permeates everyone.

stopped at a convenience store Sunday for a coke...Route 17 and 33
Woman at the cashier is literally counting out a bag of change to get dollar bills, so she can go over to the one-of-four skill games (I thought they were illegal?) to continue playing, joining three of her close friends to waste the afternoon. The next guy up buys a big Three Musketeers and Gatorade with his EBT card, then buys four lottery tickets with cash.
Something is really wrong with this country.

EV trucks a common theme
Ford Lightning in NOLA and Cybertruck in Vegas. They may be murderers, but at least they care for the planet.

Wasn't that Carmine the Mayor's horny 14 y.o. daughter?
If the Wormer's had kids they weren't in the movie.

My daughter (rising senior at Tech) is in Paris ....

Had dinner one time with Verne Lundquist...
Not to get into details, but my ex-wife had a cousin who was friends with Verne at their home in Steamboat Springs, CO. When Verne asked me where I was living at the time (Lynchburg), he recalled a hysterical story where he got punished into announcing the ABC college game of the week for little schools at Hampden-Sydney.

Haven't been to the one in Lynchburg...
But have visited the second location at the bottom of Wintergreen (in the building where Stoney Creek Golf Pro Shop is located).
Excellent food very reasonably priced.

Their secret weapon....
They must have big exhaust fans in their smokehouse...no matter the actual wind direction there is always Barbeque smoke drifting across I-64.

Vegas will definitely get better over time
Me and Mrs Hookie had a good time. She was the one that really wanted to come and her RB drivers all were on the podium.
Amazing how many Europeans and South/Central Americans made the trip. They are truly connoisseurs of F1. Fascinating people watching.
Wasnβt too keen on the late starting times. Iβd prefer next going to Austin or Montreal. Exorbitant ticket prices would make a European race no more expensive. Guy beside us from Italy said even Monaco is cheaper than Vegas.

Any loungers in Vegas for F1?
1st practice session cut short after nine minutes. Las Vegas Public Works Department forgot to fasten down a few manholes.

I got most of that hill in
But is was all uphill. Our route took us from Sedona to Flagstaff, and it was one switchback after another.

Au contraire!
On my cross-country bike ride, I rode interstates in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. They are allowed there and in a number of other western states where the interstates offer the only practical way to get between certain towns. Cyclists do have to ride on the breakdown lane, so there is a lot of tire debris that causes flats, but generally we were safer on the interstates than we were on other roads with narrow or non-existent shoulders.

Any loungers going to see F1 in Vegas?
The Mrs. bought three-day package tickets months ago; she and my Tech Junior daughter really bought into the whole "Drive to Survive" experience. One thing I really want to do while in Vegas is get inside the Sphere, which looks really cool in all the videos I've seen so far; however, there don't seem to be any tickets available anywhere while practice, qualifying, and race are in town. Don't know if the Sphere will be shut down then, or they're just reserving the tix for packages and high-rollers.

I use one
I spec'd a Shimano doubled-sided meter set-up on the Dura-Ace crank for my new Trek Madone. I was getting to learn the hang of it before my hip decided it needed to be replaced this summer, so not much data forthcoming. I think using it intelligently with a coach/trainer can make improvements over time.

Ophelia nailed my son's Highlander.....
He and daughter-in-law picked a bad weekend to drive down and see us. I used the chain saw to clear the road and get the tree off the car. Big props to Henrico County who came out Monday and cut up and hauled off this tree and the magnolia this one smashed before demolishing the Highlander.

just signed contract for new chiller--$82K
Others (Trane, Daiken) were up to $123,000 with 45-week lead times. This Carrier 55-ton unit is supposed to be 12-14 weeks. We shall see. In the meantime, renting a portable chiller at $7,000 per month to keep the troops from revolting.

Trek has more colors available for Project One builds
They offer lots of colors (and for a price, they'll match any color(s) you send them). This one has a frame of "Cobra Blood" and the logo is "Roarange".

There was a boat "tracking" it.
But lost contact with it....there was no physical link to sub and mothership.
By coincidence I'm currently reading a book about the Navy's first lost nuclear sub, the Thresher, in April of 1963, off Cape Cod in approximately 8,000 of water. There was a sub rescue ship above the Thresher when it sank as a precaution, but their only form of communication was the undersea sound-powered gertrude, which became garbled at a certain depth; the Thresher's last message was somewhat distorted but seemed to indicate they had a problem and were attempting a ballast tank blow. Evidently the compressed air froze the valve used to fill the ballast tank, and the Thresher sank until it imploded somewhere below 2,000 feet.

Wish I'd known this was coming out...
Just dropped $15k on a new Trek Madone with a Dura Ace groupset....first time I've not had a Campy-equipped bike since the 70s. This Super Record group seems really sweet!

I climbed Half Dome back in the 90s
before the permit was a thing. Probably a half-hour wait at the bottom and top to ascend/descend, but worth it. The hike just to the base past Vernal and Nevada Falls are worth it in itself.

There once was a poet, McAmader
Who's tool was of prodigious diameter.
Yet it wasn't his size
That made the girls sigh
But his rhythm, iambic pentameter

Had it done many times...
My Gastro doc is unsure what causes my strictures...some say acid reflux, some say food allergies. I get some relief, but eventually have to have a repeat. I take omeprazole as well as swallowing a steroid for the allergies. Its also hereditary as my son as it as well.

The renewal-after-expiration price is always crazy high..
Just talk to an agent or go online and investigate a new term policy, and the rates will be lots lower. Still significantly higher than what you have been paying, because you're 20 years older, but less than $2,000 per year. Especially if you just get a 5 or 10-year term.
