Posting History (517)

Fekete is very highly ranked, top 3-5 in nj by prep baseball. Also have

Sam Szefc, who prep has #3 in VA behind Leach and Morabito-Toledo (Ambrose is #5). I've seen 10 of these guys on various top 500 lists, and top 10 in their state.

Duke with a massive advantage on financial aid

In addition to baseball schollies, the university pays full ride to any student whose family income is less than about $150k. So many players on university schollie, no need to fund full baseball allotment, use those savings to funnel to NIL. Still have 34 full rides, plus solid NIL.

A lot of infield combo options for sure

Hard to not have Gibson in a high impact defensive position, guy is an excellent glove. My guess is either he or Lutterman at 3b, Daniel, Ball and then either Hankins or Gibby at 1b. Maybe Gibby could play cf, wouldn't surprise me. This kid Hornick looks like a potential early impact bat, as does Arnett, among the freshmen.

Fall roster is online

only new name to me was Brooks Carter - juco catcher

Very good get - will be a solid acc arm

On paper this is a very good pitching portal class. You never know how guys will adapt at a higher level but a few of these guys are highly likely to do fine, and of course Abraham has been solid in SEC.

Thanks for the update. Catcher spot is confusing as Oxendine played none

last year, but I've seen a few indications the staff loves him and he will start, but those were likely uninformed opinions. I guess they did not see French as the guy. The juco cf coming in had a big freshman year but struggled this season so not sure if/how he fits. The 34 man roster is limiting, although unc had 38 this year, due to rule of any existing player on our roster when the rule passed does not count against the limit - so I would think Grady and maybe Locurto/Gibson would be in that category but maybe I misunderstood that.

Yeah that is a road game, but treated for metrics as a neutral game

A game you likely lose, but instead of a road loss, it is a neutral loss....big difference. Not sure why we would do that unless we are getting paid a huge sum. Even then, makes little sense.

That was brutal sequence with Glauber and the ump, horrible look for ncaa

As clear a case of an ump initiating an issue and then making it much, much worse with several critical pitches called balls that were clearly strikes, with game still very much in doubt. Really looked like he was intentionally f'ing with the kid.

They were a 2 seed so definitely did not back into the regionals. ACC is

brutal, and to finish 15-15 will generally lock in a bid. In our case we also had a tough non-conference schedule. My critique of Szefc would be that he did not capitalize as much as you'd reasonably expect after the great 2022 run. HS recruiting has been uneven, but his 2027 class looks to be his best on paper. Last 2 years were eh recruiting wise but they really got hit by injuries more than just about anyone those years as well. Hopefully with more scholarships this upcoming season we will get more from the portal this cycle and keep it going, as before we could not offer as much. We need 3-4 impact pitchers, at least.

Knicks were a much better team, knew they were much better, and took over

When it mattered. I was rooting for spurs, but the veteran team appeared to be toying with the talented pups. I think if the played 10 series knicks win 9 or 10. In the nba all that matters is Q4, and those vets understand that completely.

The draft and minor league structure changed after covid. Fewer HS guys

Go straight to minors, and with the portal the better lower level college guys are more likely to end up in SEC-ACC. The draft was basically cut in half and lower minors is essentially partially outsourced to college baseball. I'll bet close to 1/3 of the draft is acc/sec players these days. As for our ability to compete, we did have a great year in 2022, and were completely decimated by injuries 2 of the past 3 seasons. There are 6 or so "traditional baseball powers" in our league - Miami, FSU, GT, Clemson, UNC and UVA (past 20 years), plus Wake and NCSU have excellent programs. ** Edited by vtfin91 at 6/10/2026, 12:14:37 PM

I see Austin Dean is listed as redshirting this year- was he hurt or

Development year? Very highly regarded coming in. I see Daniel and Clement as β€˜likely’ drafted, maybe Gibson as potentially.

Weird deal that they did not trust him in conference play at all

Only 7 innings in conference games…. But then late season he closed several. He was 10th on team in acc ip. That said he got people out, wicked change up. Fastball one of the lowest velocity in acc though so a reliever for sure.

We won’t know until the game starts today

Seems more likely he is unavailable and Szefc is going a bit overboard on the deception angle but who knows. If available I would throw my best in game 1.

Our coach is never going to be straight up regarding injuries, ever...and

perhaps he should not be. Renfrow didn't pitch in the ACC tourney, so yes he is "hurt" to some extent. Whether that is a tired arm, flu, or something more significant - we won't know until this weekend, regardless of what Szefc says.

Need Renfrow healthy - if so we have a puncher's chance. You could go

either way with first 2 games, I would probably throw Renfrow game 1. Just hope he is healthy. If not then I probably throw Stieg game 1 with Grim right behind him, then Eisenreich game 2. Stieg has really struggled for 3 weeks though.

Props to Kurt Elbin. Great work again by him to get this team ready

And get better in-season. Offense looked poor early season, but came around. I believe we were bottom 3 in league in both homers and steals- so not a ton of raw talent, but he got a lot out of this lineup, and several guys who were returnees improved tremendously - Gibson, lutterman, locurto. Guy is a heck of a coach.

Their official stance is rpi is the core rating they use this year

And DSR is a β€œreference point”. It is used as a sanity check on rpi only. Their issue with dsr - much more heavily skews sec/acc than rpi does.

They are projected as of today by Baseball america to be in the tourney

so they may end up stealing that bid. We'll see. Their rpi is now 5 spots ahead of us, and this is the most important metric the selection committee uses. We should be in, but I definitely wanted Pitt to lose.

very inconsistent, but when he is on he can plow through really good teams

and there are not that many guys who can do that. He has been really good at times.

yeah, this team can be a threat in a regional....if Renfrow is available

I do not believe we have enough pitching depth without him to realistically win a regional.

Yep, infield D is excellent while our outfield D is bad to atrocious.

Grube I think is an infielder, and looks it. Locurto is the worst outfielder defensively in the acc, completely lost out there most of the time. Gates is solid but not as a cf. Our infield D, though, is borderline elite. Gibson, Ball and Cooke are as good as anybody, and the others are solid.

and good chance Daniel is drafted this July, which is why I thought Grady

was possibly taking a redshirt after missing the beginning of the year, but no idea. ** Edited by vtfin91 at 5/21/2026, 10:55:24 AM

Clay Grady - anyone know his status? At season opener, Szefc indicated he

would miss 3 weeks with a broken hand that had occurred recently. Obviously missed the season - aggravated injury, or is he sitting out to play next year, or just moving on?

No brainer if you know you are locked into the ncaa

from the posts here, it looks like I was the only guy who didn't think we were a lock, and therefore had to pitch Renfrow today. Szefc and you guys knew better, we were a lock prior to today....I do not understand that, maybe you or Heartandsoul who was certain, can help me out. We were 46 rpi, with 7 quad 1 wins but a decent chance of losing 2 of those if Cal fell out of top 60. Also Szefc indicated Friday he thought we needed 3 more wins to feel good. We only got 2 last weekend. Great that we are in. ** Edited by vtfin91 at 5/20/2026, 10:29:12 PM ** Edited by vtfin91 at 5/20/2026, 10:32:53 PM

Props to Eisenrich - great job coming in and closing the door. Bats were

smokin - great to see Petrich in particular step up and rake. Every starter had 2 or more hits except Gates.

The freaking was all about the decision to not start Renfrow in a must-win

game. I assume he is hurt, or just a tired arm and needed extra days. Or, Szefc was told by someone who would know that we are locked into the ncaa tourney. Otherwise you pitch Renfrow. If he is hurt, tough deal for a great pitcher. Since you disagree, please at least provide your reasoning for why that was a sound decision. ** Edited by vtfin91 at 5/20/2026, 9:33:24 PM

Either Renfrow is hurt, or Szefc has vacation planned for next weekend

and needs an exit. If Renfrow is not injured, then Szefc is a moron. ** Edited by vtfin91 at 5/20/2026, 5:26:01 PM

We need a win tonight!

Over past few days teams on our acc schedule have gotten smoked

We did not play 5 Acc teams this season, those 5 teams all won series this weekend vs teams we did play, so that hurts. Good news Cal beat Stanford, and Cal is 55 rpi. Need them to be top 60 as that is 2 quad 1 wins and checks that box, 7 quad 1 wins checks the box. .500 acc checks the box. We were sitting pretty at 37 rpi which checks, 47 not so much. Still think we are in but who knows. Maybe this is the year the acc tourney matters.

ball got away from catcher, runners advanced, catcher thru to 2nd and

Daniel got in a run down between 1st and 2nd, at end or rundown Locurto broke from 3rd and scored winning run.

With Lutterman hobbled it looks like he

Will have to continue to play lf. He has really struggled out there this season. Lutterman had settled in out there so tough blow. Hope he can get back out there, looked good at the plate but ankle was taped bigly.
