I assumed Clement would be in line for a possible weekend starter role along with Eisenreich and Grim but he probably saw the success Marciano had at Auburn and figured he would test the waters with the portal and also use it as possible leverage with the MLB Draft. I suppose he could return like Stieg did if he doesn't get drafted and/or doesn't like his transfer destination options but we'll see.

are being strongly encouraged to enter the portal by their representation/agent. This is especially the case with pitching prospects. Unfortunately, that is just where things are right now and the portal provides baselines (monetary) for competitive negotiations when/if picked. Despite his lack of time on the mound, I think our staff has felt pretty strongly he will be drafted this year. Where he ultimately ends up (draft, another school, or VT), will be interesting to watch.
