While I agree it's intriguing looking at the recruiting class coming in 2027, I don't think that saves him at all if the new AD wants to make a change. We will sink or swim in the Portal. Also will be interesting to see if Whit does anything with his contract on his way out.

brutal, and to finish 15-15 will generally lock in a bid. In our case we also had a tough non-conference schedule. My critique of Szefc would be that he did not capitalize as much as you'd reasonably expect after the great 2022 run. HS recruiting has been uneven, but his 2027 class looks to be his best on paper. Last 2 years were eh recruiting wise but they really got hit by injuries more than just about anyone those years as well. Hopefully with more scholarships this upcoming season we will get more from the portal this cycle and keep it going, as before we could not offer as much. We need 3-4 impact pitchers, at least.

He did get his team to the post season which will give him more time. I thought Szefc would move on after this season since Whit Babcock won't be around next spring. IMHO, Whit has been very patient with him. I think most Power 4 AD's would've let Szefc go a few years ago. Szefc has had more given to him (renovated baseball park, practicing facilities, a very good salary despite running a mediocre program, ...) than Pete D'Amour and D'Amour has been a Top 25 coach during his time at Tech.

more for sure (just like when comparing men's basketball to women's basketball when head to head versus each sport's peer group). Baseball is just more expensive to operate than softball (at any school at this level). However, when comparing VT baseball resources (including salaries) to ACC baseball peers, it is not remotely close to the top of the league. When comparing VT softball resources (including salaries) to ACC softball peers, softball is near the very top. And this year's scholarship allocation to VT baseball was lower (relative to the league's peers and overall roster limit) than softball's was relative to their roster size and league's peers. So operationally, when considering the support given to both, softball is much better funded relative to their softball counterparts than baseball is......hopefully both will continue to be better funded starting with this next academic year and that appears to be the case. It would be nice if softball had an improved stadium concourse/press box/overhang.....but they definitely have a beautiful practice facility....it is fun for Hokies Spring sports when both are winning!!

numbers set conjure up an image of what i consider a really strong team or season. in our last 10 games we finished 5-5 and lost the last 3 - - not so hot coming down the stretch. SLG% 0.469; OBP% .386. team pitching ERA 6.86. acc (only) teams series: 5-5. just the stats, fans; just the stats. that said, i meant no insult or dissing of any player or players. the record thru the season and at the end just didn't excite me. they were hard working young Hokies doing their best, but not setting college baseball nor the acc on fire as a dominant team. i went out of my way (293 miles each way) to attend two home games, and cheer for the Hokies. i almost getting tossed from English for being too loud in cheering for our team balanced with my criticism of the home plate "blind guy in blue" - no cursing, not commenting about the umpires' family, etc, nothing personal - just for cheering too crazily for Virginia Tech added to being too loud in critiquing blue's eyesight, inconsistency and decisions. my "backing in" is more aimed at the coaching staff which was mightily criticized on this board via play-by-play comments and post-game postmortems.

game. Nursing injured players along so they would possibly be back and at their best down the stretch. Especially pitchers. I think he did a great job of having our team play their best when they had to.

different. i think given the same players and same circumstances our coaches should have coached better.

Hopefully bought enough time for his HS recruiting class of 2027 to get here. We also need football to get really good and make lots of money for us to be measurably better.
