Definitely a bummer, but maybe he could come back like Stieg...
Even though Swift is a rising junior, he will be draft eligible this year as he turns 21 on July 1st so maybe he is using the portal for leverage. The question will be where Willey and Szefc see him in terms of a role next year. I would imagine Swift wants to land a weekend starter role wherever he is at and even though he made the jump from weekday starter to weekend reliever this year, he wasn't used much at all down the stretch so I'm not sure they saw him ultimately as a weekend starter going into next season.

I’d like to know why he didn’t pitch in the last two weeks? The fact that
he is leaving doesn’t suggest injury. He had seemed to earn the staff’s confidence and was instrumental in us getting a bid, imo. I thought he would be used against UCLA until he wasn’t. I actually speculated that he would come in to relieve Clement for the 9th because his change up is so good that he has been hard to time up.

Weird deal that they did not trust him in conference play at all
Only 7 innings in conference games…. But then late season he closed several. He was 10th on team in acc ip. That said he got people out, wicked change up. Fastball one of the lowest velocity in acc though so a reliever for sure.

Weird he wasn't used down the stretch at all unless he was hurt. He
produced and outperformed his metrics. Sorry to see him in the portal.
