Outfield defense has been shaky today. (Compare that with the bases loaded
running catch UNC had).

should have been caught. Left fielder should have been playing toward gap with a LH hitter at the plate

Every team has weaknesses - outfield defense is certainly one of ours.

Grube I think is an infielder, and looks it. Locurto is the worst outfielder defensively in the acc, completely lost out there most of the time. Gates is solid but not as a cf. Our infield D, though, is borderline elite. Gibson, Ball and Cooke are as good as anybody, and the others are solid.

Baseball is hard. Every good outfielder in the world has made mistakes. Funny how some people only notice errors and never the countless plays made the rest of the season.
Calling any college player “the worst” is a joke and says more about the person posting it than the player himself. Anyone who truly knows baseball understands the game is built on failure, adjustments, and growth. Even big leaguers make mistakes.
And if you actually played outfield or understand the game, you’d know coaches position outfielders based on scouting reports, hitters, counts, situations, and team strategy. Not every ball hit is simply “the outfielder messed up.” But that nuance usually gets missed by people looking for someone to blame.

they ended up being fairly solid defensively.
Daniel had 5 errors in the first 11 games of the season and that was after posting back-to-back double-digit error seasons at Belmont so I thought he was going to be a liability but he had just 6 errors in the last 36 games he played in which included a 28 game stretch in the middle of the season with just 2 errors. He certainly wasn't as sure-handed as Clay Grady but he got to more balls so I think he performed solidly.
Petrich started the year shaky with 2 errors in the first 3 games of the season and I thought he would wind up being similar to David Lewis but he rebounded and had just 3 errors in the last 49 games he played in which is pretty respectable.

moved Grube from 1B to RF, we definitely prioritized trying to optimize our batting lineup over outfield defense and none of Locurto, Gates or Grube are particularly good outfielders defensively. On the whole, it has been a good move from a team perspective but it has occasionally negatively influenced the outcome of some games.

Gates right in late game situations with the lead- which was not the case today. The bases-loaded catch the Carolina right fielder made when we were up, 3-2, changed the game and momentum. We would have been up 6-2. Then late, hanging on on a close game, we misplay a deep high fly ball.

Hope it works 70% of the time. Best you can do if/with limited roster ( have gaps)
