So what f you’re on a plane and are asked to give up your aisle seat for a window so a dude can sit next to his wife, do you? I politely said no as I can’t stand window seats.

It depends. My wife and I had aisle seats across from each other
and a young lady asked me to switch aisle seats with her boyfriend so they could sit together. He either was in the military or had been working at a different location so they had not seen each other in a while. I checked with my wife and she was ok with it. We fly Delta Comfort for longer flights but this was a short hop. I definitely would not switch a Comfort seat for coach.

I would give up an aisle for a window or vice versa
But would not give up either for a middle.

No. Can't flirt with the flight attendants from the widow seat.

Reminds me of a Benny Hill skit...
A woman with her baby when a man remarks, "he has your husband's hair." She replied, "but he has his father's eyes."

More often than not someone's got a scam going....
So, I find I'm in a middle seat between a couple. Turns out they selected their seats deliberately expecting the middle seat to be left open so they can use it to put stuff in, Plane is full so yeah, I got the middle seat. So I always have a rule to only switch seats after the plane takes off. In this case I didn't mind rather be on the aisle anyway than the middle but only after I learned what their game was. In this case, fairly innocuous but...that doesn't dissprove my point that people are trying to play you. Other instances where someone wants to exchange a seat and it turns out it wasn't even their seat they were trading. Yeah, I'm a stickler for getting to my seat and just staying there, keep things unconfused* Also, it's OK to take care of yourself first - as you did - your aisle seats takes precedence over their being together and back to point one wouldn't be surprised if they do this all the time to save money or something. *even been bumped up to first class b/c I was a frequent flyer etc, so when regular seating was over booked they looked for ff people to take unused 1st class and solve their seating problems, that is they need to know where to find you. ** Edited by `lag at 2/23/2026, 11:42:36 PM ** Edited by `lag at 2/24/2026, 8:41:54 AM

That’s not a scam, it’s a strategy
We do it all the time, but we always offer the person in the middle seat to switch to a better seat. Not sure how you’re being scammed if it works out better for you.

I have in the past. Just being a decent person methinks.
One of the reasons I'm glad I don't travel much anymore. Everyone seems on edge and not very friendly.

I'm definitely glad I allowed William Shatner to have the window seat.

Must be newly married if he wants to sit next to her
Give him a few years and then he will be saying "Oh no, looks like we are on opposite sides of the plane and in different rows. Well, guess I'll see you in a few hours after we land."

I am delayed for my second flight, so……
This guy was using his status to get to first class then expected others to bend to his will. I didn’t think he’d be pissed but he must have stewed for the entire 4 hour flight. He verbally assaulted me when I walked past him so I laughed and he went off after that. I just kept walking…..
